Record of Lodoss War
Synopsis for Record of Lodoss, both the OVA and the TV series.
Parn the Free Knight of Lodoss - Parn is the hero of the OAV and of the first seven or so episodes of the TV series. He starts off as a callow, untrained youth, but ends up getting more mature as he fights. He's in love with Deedlit, and she with him, even though she is much older than he is and crossbreeding is rather looked down upon.
Spark the knight-in-training. Spark is the Heroic Knight who takes over for Parn as hero ten years after the defeat of Ashram at Fire Dragon Mountain and the death of Orson. He falls in love with Neese and runs around trying to protect her from Wagnard. Without too much success, I might add.
Ashram the Black Knight - Ashram is much more complex in the series. He genuinely cares for the people of Marmo, and has a lot of qualities that make him a good leader. Although in both he has a talent for dying in unusual circumstances. But, rather like a bad penny, he keeps showing up again to irritate the heck out of Parn. ^_^
Orson the Berserker - when Orson was 12 or 13 years old, his sister was killed by goblins right in front of him. At that point he was invaded and possessed by the Hyrui, the spirit of rage and madness, so whenever he sees someone (usually Shiris) in trouble, he loses all control and goes berserk. Because of the Hyrui's possession, he feels only anger and nothing else. This buries the love he feels for Shiris, who fancies herself in love with Parn because he beat her with a sword. However, once he breaks free of the Hyrui, Orson admits to Shiris that he loves her, but she can't handle it. When Shiris is defeated by Smeddy, Orson calls on the Hyrui to posses him again. "What good am I if I can't protect someone I love?" he asks, and doesn't even care what becomes of him. When he dies, he does do in Shiris's arms, with a smile on his face. ;_;
Kashue the Mercenary King of Flaim - Erzeru's all melty about the fact that he's a 33 year old ex-gladiator-slave. In the series his voice is done by Nakata Jouji (who did Folken). He is excellent with a sword, he is a wise leader, and he is usually the voice of reason. Although his treatment of Spark seems harsh at first, the fact that he sent Garrack to protect Spark says a lot about him.
