Illinois 47 is an important highway running from the far northwest reaches of the Chicago area across the Illinois River down to Seymour, just west of Champaign.

Intersections from north to south:

IL47 begins as Wisconsin Hwy 120 crosses the Wisconsin State line

IL173 at Hebron

IL120 at Woodstock

US14 at Woodstock

IL176 joins from the west

Soon after, IL176 heads to the east again

I-90 to/from the east, near Huntley*

At the same intersection, IL72 joins from the east, and US20 joins from the west

Then, at another intersection, US20 breaks off to the east, and IL72 breaks off to head west

IL64 at Lily Lake

IL38 at Elburn

I-88 to/from the west ONLY

At an interchange at Sugar Grove, IL56 begins toward the east as US30 joins from the west

Then US30 leaves toward the east

US34 at Yorkville

IL126 at Yorkville

IL71 at Yorkville

I-80 at Morris

US6 joins from the east at Morris

US6 breaks off to the west, still in Morris

I-55, close to Dwight

IL17 at Dwight

IL116 near Saunemin

US24 at Forrest

IL165 at Sibley

IL9 joins from the west at Gibson City

Then, IL54 joins IL9 and IL47 from the west, forming a "tripleplex"

Still in Gibson City, IL47 breaks off of IL9 and IL54

I-74 near Mahomet

IL47 joins US150 west at Mahomet

Then IL47 breaks off to the south

I-72 near Seymour

Finally, IL47 ends at IL10 near Seymour.

It passes through these towns: Hebron, Woodstock, Huntley, Lily Lake, Elburn, Sugar Grove, Yorkville, Morris, Mazon, Dwight, Forrest, Strawn, Sibley, Gibson City, and Mahomet.
