The Knights of the Silver Shield are an order founded by the great Lord Valbanes Garamond. The Insignia is based on his family’s crest. The Garamond Family can trace their roots to a Great Silver Dragon, who is still around to this day and whose image was used in the Crest. Lord Valbanes created the Knights in order to help protect his main city and the surrounding area; they are made up of the best The City State has to offer. The Knights of the Silver Shield are broken down into 5 Divisions and those are as follows; The Composite Infantry, The Armored Cavalry, The Mage Knights, The Sun Lancers and The Silver Dragoons. The Last three Divisions are the Elite of the Silver Shield and all five are ordered from easiest to most difficult to gain membership in. All 5 Divisions are independent from each other and not a hierarchy at least as far as recruitment is concerned.

The Composite Infantry are the most numerous of all the divisions, which is because it is the easiest to qualify for. They are the city guard, the army regulars, and the highway patrol. On city guard they usually patrol in twos and threes. They are organized into Battle Units of about Eight Knights of varying skill and specialization; this configuration is for highway patrol and regular army. There are further grouped into Battalions which consists of 10 Battle Units and an Armored Cavalry Unit, they are usually led by a Mage Knight Commander for a Total of 101 Knights per Battalion, this is for large scale military operations.

The Armored Cavalry is the second Division in the Knights of the Silver Shield. They are not nearly as numerous as the Composite Infantry, but this is more due to the high cost of maintenance, training and breeding of mounts. There is also the time needed to give Knights the proper mounted combat training. Armored Cavalry is used only in Military action and very limited highway patrol. They are organized into Units of twenty Knights in the Military and they patrol in units of four.

The Mage Knight Division is an Elite Unit of men trained in a special mix of arcane spell casting, divine spell casting and combat training. They have fairly difficult requirements but they are by far the easiest of the Elite Divisions to enter. They learn to be leaders on the Battle Field and to fight independently when necessary. When they have mastered all of the training they are honorably presented with a Magus Blade and a Divine Shield, which completes the Mage Knight.

The Sun Lancer Division is the second hardest to join as it has very strict and High Requirements. It is also only offered to Humans and Half Elves, but that is due to an average height requirement to wield the Sun Lance correctly. They are organized into War Regiments, which are a combination of Ten Mage Knights and Ten Sun Lancers lead by a single Silver Dragoon. The Sun Lancer’s Training is very rigorous, but that is mostly due to the difficulty in wielding such a weapon. They gain special abilities with the Sun Lance that make it a very effective weapon and which makes them very formidable Knights.

The Silver Dragoon Division is the highest and hardest Division to join. They are hand picked by Lord Valbanes, and he handles their training personally. His requirements are very high because of the strength and dedication necessary in becoming a Silver Dragoon. They are trained in the use of a High Guardian, one of the most powerful weapons in existence. They must also wear the Dragoon Mail, a special Silver Full Plate, from which the Division’s name is derived. To date there are only 15 Silver Dragoons in the whole world.
