Sonny & Brenda #14  November 1 - December 30, 1996 - 8 hour edit

DVD #14A  Brenda and Jax on their pre-honeymoon in New Orleans. Jax and Brenda get their fortune told by a woman with a bad French accent. Bad news! Jax blows it off and they end up kissing in the rain. 

Sonny arrives in Australia and buys some damning information about Jax. He phones Ned telling him that he's about to discover Jax's deepest secret. Sonny is shown knocking on Miranda's door. Brenda back at the Q mansion beginning her wedding day preparations. Sonny shows up at Miranda's door in the Philippines. He calls Ned to tell him he has found the "silver bullet". Sonny is on the ELQ jet telling the captain to speed things up. He looks over at someone and then gets an introspective look as he flashes back to the conversation he and Brenda had after Lois left the ER.

The scene switches to Brenda at the Quartermaines getting ready for the wedding. Jax shows up at the Q’s and starts plotting to keep Sonny away from the mansion. Brenda and Ned talk about Jax; Ned tries to get her to see the whole picture and encourages her to back out. She insists she knows what she's doing, so he relents and wishes her luck. 

Heading to PC for Brenda’s wedding, Robin calls to say that she and Jason can't be there on time because of Jason’s bike blew a tire. Brenda says to stay where they are and have a little vacation together in Pennsylvania (they are stranded on the OLTL “Wild Swan” set). Emily helps Brenda get ready for the wedding. Ned gives Brenda a package from Lois

Jax gets word that Sonny has been digging and is on his way back to PC. Brenda goes to Jax to tell him that she loves him and she really wants to marry him. Jax is thrilled. Before the ceremony, Brenda and Jax exchange private vows. They agree that they will walk each other down the line. The guests downstairs talk a bit and are seated. Jax escorts Brenda down the staircase and as they reach the bottom, Sonny arrives with Miranda (Jax’s back from the dead wife) in tow. Jax looks stricken as he exchanges soulful, searching looks with Miranda, who is upset and exclaims that Sonny lied. Miranda bolts and Jax goes after her.

Before he can explain, Sonny gets a slap from Brenda. Brenda thinks that he ruining her wedding is revenge. Jax and Miranda talk, while Sonny tries to explain why he brought Miranda to PC. Brenda's a bit steamed. Sonny tells her about Miranda and the bomb. She accuses him of doing it to get her back for wearing the wire. Jax and Miranda talk; she apologizes for coming. Brenda says it doesn't matter what Sonny did because she and Jax love each other. She then goes outside and sees Jax embracing Miranda. Brenda is shocked; Sonny stands behind her.

In the mansion, the guests fret about what is causing the delay. Brenda and Sonny go back into the mansion. Sonny tries to explain, but Brenda tells him it doesn't matter. She says she and Jax will get through this. John Jax and Ned burst in. Miranda and Jax continue to talk in the garden. Jax flashes back to the bombing. Jax wants an explanation from Miranda. She explains that she survived the explosion. John Jax lashes out at Sonny. 

Jax suspects his father knew that Miranda was alive and covered it up and confronts him. John collapses in the Q foyer. Jax comes in and blasts his father for withholding the truth about Miranda. John collapses in the Q foyer. John Jax has had a heart attack. Ned dismisses the guests; Kathryn is annoyed. John is rushed to the hospital; lots of ER stuff with family watching. Miranda blasts Sonny for using her to hurt Jax. Mac takes Miranda from the mansion. Ned blasts Sonny for breaking Brenda's heart but Sonny throws it right back at him. Sonny maintains that this will weaken Jax's concentration and business prowess.

At the hospital, Brenda talks to Justice and Keesha about the botched wedding. Later, Jax explains to Brenda that nothing has changed between them. He is devastated that everyone lied to him, and he apologizes to Brenda for not telling her about Miranda. Jane Jax tries to explain to Brenda about Miranda. Jax visits his father and flashes back again to the accident.
 
Sonny goes to the hospital, but Mike and Mac won't let him go in. Mac chews him out and tells him to stay out of GH. Mike then chews him out for hurting so many people. Sonny justifies what he does and then leaves. Brenda and Miranda come face to face at the hospital and talk about the day. Miranda says she realizes that Sonny did all this because he loves Brenda and that it was clear from the way he looked at her. Brenda doesn't respond. On the docks, Mike and Sonny argue Sonny about bringing Miranda to wreck Brenda’s wedding. Sonny tries to justify his actions by claiming he was only interested in finding out Jax's secret in order to oust him from the ELQ. They talk through a lot of things. Sonny says eventually Brenda will realize he did her a favor. Sonny leaves to go talk to Brenda and give her an explanation. Mac suggests Sonny not enter the hospital.
 
At the PH, Brenda finds Jax's vows and reads them. Sonny arrives at the PH to give Brenda an explanation (awesome scene both actors are terrific! ). Sonny tells Brenda she's better off knowing the truth and Brenda blasts him as not being worthy compared to Jax.  Brenda tells Sonny as he's leaving that she'll never forgive him. 

When Brenda is alone, she takes more pain pills and moons over the little ship game piece that Jax gave her as Sonny walks the docks. The next day, Jason tells Sonny that he and Robin had an awesome time. Sonny tells Luke and Jason about Miranda. Keisha overhears Jason and Sonny discuss the drug problem. Keisha confronts Sonny thinking that he would know about the influx of drugs. Keesha tells Sonny he should find out who is dealing the drugs.

Back at the hospital, Brenda and Jax talk. Brenda visits John and they  discuss Jax. He tells her to fight for him; she wonders why she has to fight for him. Back at the penthouse, Jax and Brenda talk about everything that has happened. Brenda confronts Jax about lying. Some of Brenda's anger about the whole situation comes out. She asks him why he felt he had to lie, etc.  Brenda tells Jax the reason he didn't tell her is because he still loves Miranda. Brenda asks Jax if he stills loves Miranda and he is saved from answering by a phone call. It’s the hospital notifying him that John needs surgery.
 
Ruby tells Sonny to leave Brenda alone. Sonny says he is out of her life for good. Later, Sonny explains to Jason why he did what he did. At GH, Ruby and Mike arrive at GH to support Brenda while John is in surgery.  Brenda breaks down fearing that things will never be the same again between her and Jax. Jane Jax tries to explain away the lies; Jax is cross. At Luke's, Miranda goes to Sonny to get her passport. Miranda has a few choice words for Sonny. She does not like him or what he did. She tells Sonny he's nasty. He tells her she wants Jax back. John Jax comes through the surgery. Brenda and Jax make up in the apartment. Miranda tells Sonny the reason he did all of this was to get Brenda back, but he slams back beautifully by accusing her of the same motive, of wanting Jax back.
 
The next day, Sonny and Mike talk. Sonny fishes for info about Brenda. Mike tells him to leave Brenda alone for her sake. At GH, John is about to leave to return home to Alaska. Jax goes to Luke's to confront Sonny. He blasts Sonny, but Sonny brings up John Jax's vicious tactics in Australia. Sonny warns Jax that there are things that he does not know about his father. Jax accuses him of lying, but clearly he's a bit shaken. Sonny tells him to go on a fact-finding mission himself to explore John's slave-labor conditions, etc.  John explains to Brenda why he did what he did after Miranda’s accident. 

Back at Luke's, Mike tries draw Sonny out about his childhood, but Sonny shuts him down. Sonny slams Mike by telling him he's lucky he didn't end up dead from drugs, given the lack of parental involvement. 

At GH, Brenda and Ned visit about Jax, Miranda, etc. Mac confirms that John Jax is/was a tyrant. Brenda learns from Katherine that Miranda is staying with Mac. Jax and Miranda talk a little. She tells him she still has the letters. She has decided to stay awhile. Brenda overhears a lot of Jax's conversation with Miranda when he doesn’t want her to leave and asks her to stay in PC. It makes her very insecure. Jax goes to GH to check on his father. Jax and Brenda meet at GH. Brenda is shaken. Jax tells her he asked Miranda to stay, but he doesn't want to talk about it very much. Brenda asks him again if he still loves Miranda? He responds that he doesn't know. Brenda is neither happy nor trusting. 

At GH, Jax laments his family's history of brutality and he explains the whole explosion incident. He tells her about his recent knowledge of family company’s shady dealings. Jason arrives for more drug conversation. Later, Brenda arrives to talk to Sonny. She gets angry when he gets coy, but they go outside anyway. She wants to know whether it was hard to get Miranda to come to PC? Sonny senses her insecurity and tells her that maybe Miranda is still there because Jax wants her to stay. Interspersed with that are scenes of Jax talking to his father about their family history. Knowing that he and his father have unfinished business, Jax confronts him about what Sonny learned about the family business dealings. Brenda meets Jax at the hospital. Jax decides to go to Alaska to take his father home. She says she'll stay in PC while Jax takes his parents back home to Alaska. They affirm their love for one another.
 
Back at Luke's, Sonny looks like the cat that ate the canary. He tells Jason Brenda doesn't trust Jax anymore. Brenda goes to Mac's house to find the love letters in Miranda's room. Mac asks if Sonny has any information about the drugs coming into PC. Sonny tells him that his sources say it's not one family. They're coming in from out of the country. He asks that Sonny share any information he finds out with him. Sonny questions why Miranda is staying with him? Brenda reads the letters and is shocked at their intensity. Miranda walks in, she is not happy to find Brenda there.

It’s Thanksgiving holiday dream scenes. Brenda bounces into the Jacks' living room, handing Jax a drink. "I am so excited about the start of our first holiday season as a married couple!"  They kiss.  She asks if Australians celebrate Thanksgiving? Jax says his family never did till they moved to Alaska, and then "We didn't eat dainty little birds.  Lady Jane usually bagged a moose." Brenda doesn't want to hear about that.. she gets up close and personal as she tells him she's going to show him what Thanksgiving is about.  He laughs, "How?  You're going to point to a picture?"  She says he shouldn't make fun of her culinary expertise.  "You know I love you madly, Brenda, but you don't have any."  She admits that while that may be true, she's a whiz at room service.  There's a knock at the door. It's Miranda, accompanied by violin music.

The violins play as Sonny enter’s the Quartermaine mansion.  Sonny says,"Tell me something, Reginald. What is it I do that makes you so nervous all the time?"  

"Uh, I don't know, breathe maybe?"  

"Nonsense," beams Alan, who has obviously been hitting the pain pills too hard, "Sonny's a PAL. An Invited Guest come to spend the holiday with us." Monica chirps up (also on the happy pills, apparently) "And we couldn't be more pleased!"

Sonny tells Reginald: "I've always been a believer in live and let live. I never saw any reason why we all just can't be friends." He puts his hand out for Reginald to kiss. Edward is huffing about Sonny and that Jax character stealing his business and Sonny tells him not to take it personally, he'll have himself another heart attack.  Emily goes to Sonny and hugs him. "How are you?"  

"So much better now!" she responds.

Justus bops on in. "Hey! (to Sonny) My Main MAN!" He has all the deep dark nasty secrets on Edward. Sonny is delighted to know that Edward whacked Damian Smith! "I did no such thing!" Sonny shows the file to the shocked family.  Ned comes in wearing an Eastern monk's robe. Edward is relieved to see him, but then demands to know what Ned is wearing?

Brenda and Jax come in, wishing everyone a happy Thanksgiving. Jax and Sonny shake hands. "Yo, Sonny BOY!"  "Yeah, what's the word?"

"Thunderbird."  "What's the price?"  "Eddie twice."  Edward is blustery and baffled. "ELQ has been taken over by cretins and imbeciles! Now,Ned, you have to do something!"

Ned proposes that they donate all existing ELQ assets to various charities. They think this is a great idea.  Brenda remarks, "Jax and I should rummage through all these old knickknacks and pick out some wedding gifts for ourselves, don't you think?" Ned agrees. Brenda smiles at Jax, "Come along, my little blueberry muffin!"

Jason drives his motorcycle into the room.  Lila hopes he'll stay for dinner. "Oh, grandmother, I can't. I've only got enough time to rip off a few candlesticks and meet up with my buds at the tattoo parlor."  At this, Emily lights up.  "Oh, Alan, can I go, PLEEEEASE. I've been dying to get 'Quartermaines rule' tattooed on my thigh!"

Edward asks, "Have you all gone stark staring mad?" 

Sonny grins at Edward, "Hey-ya Pops, how's it going?"  

"Oh, goodie," says Alan. "I've always wanted another brother! Jimmie Lee Holt never made it for me!  Sonny! My bro!" They hug. Edward mumbles and mutters as he sleeps.

DVD #14B  Thanksgiving dream sequences continued: Brenda and Miranda exchanging lurid sex tales about Jax in his presence. Sonny appears with a platter of mooseburgers. Brenda and Miranda complain.  Miranda, "Sonny, he won't pick one of us!" 

Sonny responds, "And you're surprised?  The guy's a wimp!"  He's brought dueling pistols.  They start to count off and Brenda hugs and kisses Sonny, muttering "Come here, baby, I'm going to get rid of him once and for all."

At "ten!" both Miranda and Brenda have their pistols leveled at Jax, who looks particularly young as he shouts "WAIT! I can explain!" He wakes up. He's on an airplane.  Later, awake, he remembers Miranda and Brenda.

Ruby attempts to kick Sonny out of Kelly's which is closed for their annual feed the poor. He's brought a message from Robin who is dishing up food at a homeless shelter. He's also brought a check, and he tells Ruby to go get some rest, he and his bodyguards will continue to serve the meals today. This is the end of the Thanksgiving fantasy scenes.

Back at Mac's, Miranda blasts Brenda for going through her stuff and looking at her letters. Brenda makes no apologies after Miranda finds her reading her letters from Jax. The two face off. Brenda questions why she is still in PC? Later, Sonny is at Luke's; he and Mike visit. Sonny grills Mac about Miranda. Sonny gets a letter from Robin on the anniversary of Stone's death. Brenda goes and sits on the docks while remembering Jax's words in Miranda's letters.
 
At Luke's, Sonny is sitting alone with a bottle. He is drinking a toast to Stone. Sonny runs into Brenda at the docks and assumes she remembers that it's a year to the day of Stone's death. She has no clue. Jax watches them together from a distance. Brenda accuses Sonny of ruining her life by bringing Miranda to town. She tells him about reading Miranda's letter. Jax eavesdrops, and confronts Brenda. Jax steps in when Brenda says she read the letters. Sonny tells Jax off and then he leaves. Jax is angry with Brenda about the letter scene. 

Back at Luke's, Sonny talks to Jason about Stone. Gina arrives, Sonny offers Gina a job at Luke's as a hostess. They all drink a toast to Stone. Sonny flashes back to Stone telling him he'll get back with Brenda. 

At the PH, Brenda takes some more pills and then figures out that it's a year since Stone died. She picks up the phone to call Robin, but Jax is on it setting up a meeting with Miranda. Brenda looks at her calendar and realizes what day it is and picks up the phone to call Robin only to hear Jax talking to Miranda saying he needs to meet with her.

Lucy comes to the PH and tells Brenda she needs to get going again on the ad campaign. Lucy wants Brenda back on the Jax cosmetics tour. Brenda insists she can’t leave town now. Jax and Brenda are tense because of the whole Miranda thing. Brenda confides her insecurities in Ned. 

On the docks, Mike gives Sonny info about a drug dealer. Sonny gets mad that Mike is putting himself in danger. Sonny presses the drug investigation. Robin returns home from Yale for Christmas. She arrives at Sonny’s penthouse. He's thrilled to see her; they embrace. Robin tells him she's not mad at him for bringing Miranda to town, but that he shouldn't have brought her to the wedding. Jason is surprised to see Robin. She tells them that she won't be home for Christmas because of her AIDS speaking tour. They do a little gift exchange on the spot.
 
The next day, Miranda interrupts Sonny while he's playing pool. Miranda wants to know about Brenda, clearly she thinks she isn’t worthy of Jax. They discuss his opinion of Brenda and whether she is good for Jax. Brenda feels threatened when Jax makes dinner plans with Miranda. Jax talks about how he cares about Miranda, but he loves Brenda. He says the letters are old news.  Jax prepares to meet Miranda. Brenda is annoyed, but is trying to stay cool. 

Justice arrives to talk to Brenda about the legal status of her marriage. His information is inconclusive. Jax needs to get his hands on the Miranda’s death certificate if there is one. Brenda goes to Sonny to ask how he found her and whether there was a death certificate recording her death. Sonny admits to Brenda that Miranda came to him for information. She asks Sonny to help her find out. She and Sonny talk about Miranda and Jax. Sonny is way smooth. He flirts off and on, and keeps her interested. Sonny agrees to have Jason run a search for the death certificate. Brenda watches Jax and Miranda at the Grill. Miranda leaves in a huff. At the PH, Brenda looks for Jax and flashes back to the restaurant scene. Brenda calls Lois and talks to her answering machine.
 
At Luke's, Sonny has a run-in with Nikolas. Lucky bursts into Luke's saying that Laura has died in an explosion. Sonny is at the Spencer’s to provide support as funeral arrangements begin.

Brenda waits for Jax to come home from his dinner with Miranda. Jax comes home and Brenda probes for details of what went on between him and Miranda, and wants to know when Miranda is leaving. Brenda's very paranoid when he doesn't want to discuss it. Brenda and Jax try to work out their situation; she tells Jax he needs to make a decision. Everything he's done since Miranda "died" has been changed by that incident, and then the door opened and she was there. Brenda knows what she has to do, which is nothing. That's the hardest thing of all. 

Sonny visits Miranda and she asks him to take her to the airport so that she can leave town. She tells Sonny that he's lost Brenda, as evidenced by the way she's fighting for Jax. At the airport, Sonny sees Dorman meet one of his "patients". Luke and Sonny talk about Luke's plans now that Laura is supposedly dead. Sonny vows to keep the club open despite Luke leaving town. Brenda tells Jax he needs to go find Miranda to close out that chapter in his life. There's montage of Laura flashbacks as her funeral begins. Luke speaks to the mourners. Brenda ponders why Sonny is not at the funeral.

Sonny rushes to the hospital because he's been told Brenda has been in an accident. He's drugged and wheeled out on a gurney. At the cemetary, Brenda can't figure out why Sonny's not there. Brenda gets a feeling that he's in trouble. She flashes back to scenes from their past when Sonny has needed her. She goes to Luke's looking for him, then to Sonny's PH and finds him drugged and incoherent. He tells her it was a set-up. She calls the ambulance and follows him to GH. As he's being wheeled in, he tells her he loves her. 

Brenda is at the hospital waiting for news about Sonny. Mac arrives to question Brenda about Sonny’s heroin overdose and begin the investigation. Sonny eventually wakes up and he and Brenda share some nice moments. Mike comes in; he's a nervous wreck with worrying about Sonny. Sonny tells Brenda that he believes the people that set him up did it to get to her. Mike leaves, and Brenda and Sonny about her saving him. They're very sweet and tender, and they even laugh a little. Sonny nods off, and when he wakes up to Brenda at his bedside. Mike comes in to warn Sonny that there are a lot of cops around. Brenda and Sonny talk about who might have set him up. Sonny thinks it might be Jax, but Brenda defends her husband.
 
Jason arrives to see Sonny. He talks to Mike and Alan and makes plans with Sonny. The cops arrive to see Sonny. Tom Hardy visits Sonny and they talk about the faking of Laura's death. There are flashbacks to recreate the sequence of those events. In the hall, Jason chews out Brenda for not hiding the drugs better, but Mike defends her as the one who saved Sonny and Jason back off. Taggert tries to push Jason, and then he questions Sonny. Sonny works with a sketch artist to draw the mystery woman who lured him into the ambush. Sonny and Brenda talk about finding the people who set him up. Sonny wants to know how Brenda knew he was in trouble? 

Jax is back in PC and sees Sonny and Brenda together at GH. He watches them talk from outside the door. Brenda eventually sees him and goes to him. Jax demands to know why Brenda is with Sonny at GH. She tells him about saving Sonny's life. Brenda asks about Australia. Jax tells Brenda that he and Miranda decided it was over between them but she came back so they could get an divorce. They bicker a little over Sonny and Miranda. Jax is majorly bugged that Brenda is back in Sonny's orbit. Back at their PH, Jax and Brenda try to connect, but it's awkward. Brenda asks Jax if he made love to Miranda in Australia. He insists he can’t live without her. They make love.

Mike and Sonny talk about Brenda; Mike tells him to fight for Brenda. Sonny is intrigued that Miranda is back in P.C. Sonny gives Jason the sketch of the woman who set him up and orders him to find her. As Sonny prepares to leave GH, he gets a call from the setup woman, but as she begins to speak, she drops the phone as a figure appears. Sonny wants a trace on the call from the setup woman. She is killed before she can give him information. Sonny and his guards go to Marilyn Cooper's apartment; Taggert is there and confronts him.  

Christmas eve in PC. Sonny, Mike, and Jason go Christmas tree shopping as Mike insists they decorate the penthouse. Sonny takes over selling trees when the proprietor goes into labor. Jason and Mike take her to the hospital. Sonny and Joseph sell trees to the Quartermaines, and to Brenda and Jax, who is again annoyed. At GH, Alan reads the Christmas story and there is a streaming montage of Christmas footage backed by Ned singing, "I'll be Home for Christmas."
 
Brenda wants to know how long a divorce will take between him and Miranda. At Sonny’s request, Taggert and Sonny take another look around the “setup woman’s” (Marilyn Cooper) apartment. Sonny goes to Marilyn Cooper's apartment, where Taggert gets in his face. Sonny later shows up at the PH to tell Brenda and Jax that he searched Marilyn Cooper’s apt. He asks Brenda to promise to stay out of the investigation. She promises but Sonny has he doubts that she will. Jax boils over and tells Sonny off. Sonny gets some great digs in and gets a great last line! Jax stews and tells Brenda not to get involved. 

Later, Sonny calls Brenda to tell her again to stay out of the investigation. She gives her word but with her fingers crossed. Sonny tells Mike that he knows she'll keep investigating. Mike is feeling guilty for abandoning Sonny as a kid and again apologizes; Sonny says he was glad that Mike was at the hospital when he woke up this time. Brenda poses as Marilyn Cooper’s sister and goes searching for information about her at Mercy Hospital. Brenda has to cover when she is recognized as the Jax cosmetics model after going to snoop on Marilyn Cooper. She later shows up at Luke's to tell Sonny her findings. He is both mad yet glad. Brenda insists on continuing to help Sonny.
