celebrates New Year's, either at Luke's or the Quartermaine's. At Luke's, Lucy
and Sonny talk about Kevin. At the Qs, Brenda thinks about Sonny and later she
and Ned talk. The token New Year's montage flashes past everyone. While stuck in the closet, Sonny has flashbacks of his childhood and the physical and verbal abuse he withstood from his drunken stepfather and has a claustrophobia attack. Brenda draws him out and gets him to talk about his past. When the men leave the apartment, Sonny bursts out of the closet with Brenda and breaks into a sweat. Brenda asks him what is wrong and he tells her he couldn't help remembering how his stepfather would lock him in a closet and whip him with a belt when he was younger. He tells her how helpless he felt, not being able to fight back since he was a cop. Brenda asks Sonny what would happen if he had to go to prison and be locked up. He tells her he won't do time and that the cells are just too small. Joseph shows up to tell Sonny and Brenda that he has spotted Taggert on his way up. Joseph leaves with Brenda while Sonny stays to greet him. When he arrives, Taggert tells Sonny that he plans on arresting him for breaking and entering. Sonny tells him that he and Joseph came to the apartment to meet him and when they arrived, the door was open, so they went in. He goes on to tell Taggert that he should dust for prints since the real offenders were probably there because when they arrived, the phone was off the hook.. suggesting that they may have pushed re-dial to discover the last number called. Taggert exchanges insults with Sonny and tells him to mind his own business and stop hiding behind his buddy, Mac, while using his niece to get to him. Sonny, very angered by his comment, tells Taggert to start doing his job and find the scum who tried to kill him, and probably already did kill Marilyn. At GH, Jax walks Miranda to the elevator at GH, where Brenda is arriving. Brenda gets off, Miranda gets on and the two exchange hellos. Brenda tells Jax that she is looking forward to seeing the last of Miranda. Jax breaks the news to her that Miranda is staying on in Port Charles permanently. Jax calls Miranda at Mac's and tells her he wants to meet with her tonight to discuss the finalities of their divorce as well as a few other things. The doorbell rings and she finds S&B standing together at her door looking for Mac (they want the phone number for Marilyn Cooper’s apartment). She tells them he is not there and that she doesn't know when he will be back but they are welcomed to wait. Sonny says they will do just that. When she picks the phone back up, Jax tells her he will be there in an hour to pick her up, she agrees. Sonny and Brenda wait for Mac at his house. When he arrives, Sonny tells him that he and Brenda saw two men at Marilyn's apartment clear the redial function on her phone and along with it the number that could lead to the killer. Mac says he will do what he can, and calls the phone company to fax him over the phone records. Brenda says she needs to get home to Jax, and asks Sonny to call her with any additional information. Mac runs upstairs to take a shower. Miranda tells Sonny she is moving out of Mac's and finding a place of her own since Jax and Mac convinced her to stay in Port Charles. They chat about Brenda and Sonny tells her he will do whatever he can to protect her. When Mac comes downstairs he has the faxed phone records but someone beat him to them and erased the information. Brenda goes home to Jax and tells him where she was. Jax tells her he doesn't have much time because he is going to meet Miranda to discuss final divorce plans. They brag about how mature they are in handling everything. Brenda says being an adult now means she has control over her life, but that she's noticed things are not as fun as they used to be. Jax asks her what she is really afraid of. She tells him she suspects that he may have done a lot of wonderful things for her in the past simply because he wanted her to forget Sonny and saw her as a challenge. Jax assures her that was not the case and tells her that when he is officially divorced and a free man, and when she is done playing detective with Sonny, he wants to marry her all over again. He leaves to meet Miranda. Sonny calls Brenda and tells her the news, that the phone records were useless. Brenda shows up at Luke's to see Sonny. She asks to speak with him alone and he follows her outside. She tells him she can't do it anymore and that the game is over. She says she is safer away from him and that she loves Jax very much and needs to start standing by him. She goes further to say that she has been using him to make Jax jealous and that she can't fall into the same old traps anymore. She ends by telling Sonny she needs to go away before too much damage is done. Sonny tells Brenda he remembers her being there for him when he thought he was going to die and that he knows she is afraid he will hurt her again. Brenda tells him things are over between them. Sonny says things are not over just because she says so, and that they are only over when the caring stops. He tells her that she can say whatever she wants, but that he can see in her eyes that she still cares. Brenda says she needs Sonny to leave her alone, that she came there to end it, and that she is in love with Jax. Sonny tells her the only way she can be with Jax is if she pretends he (Sonny) doesn't exist. Whether she likes it or not, Sonny tells her that what they have is "real", messy and inconvenient maybe, but real. He says that Jax may make her feel safe and he may not lie all the time, but that that's not raw emotion, like they have together. He bottom lines it for her by saying the one problem they have is....they still love each other. He approaches and kisses her. Brenda stops him shortly after and tells him to stop since it won't fix anything and she is with Jax now. Sonny spills his guts to Brenda telling her that she was the only thing that registered with him when Lily died and as time passed he realized how great they were together, though he was initially happy that she was happy with Jax, when he found out about his past, he admits he went after him to take him down. Brenda is outraged at him for this. She tells Sonny that she is sick of the pain and that they would be only temporarily happy together and that it really is time for him to let her go. Sonny tells her that if the only way she can be with Jax, is to be away from him, then she is lying to herself. He warns her that sooner or later she will look for the truth and when she does, he will be there waiting. Brenda tells him half heartedly that she is not coming back this time and takes off for home. At
home, Brenda finds Jax not there. She thinks of her kiss with Sonny. Jax finally
comes in and she asks him how it went. He tells her he and Miranda have a few
more things to settle but the divorce agreement is nearly set. He asks her what
she did tonight and she replies, "nothing." Sonny pays Lily's grave a
visit with some roses. He talks of their past and what he has learned from
loving her. He goes on to say that he thinks of her often and prays for her
soul, even though he knows it is already with God. He goes on to tell her that
he told Brenda he loved her tonight. He takes off his wedding ring and digs a
hole in the snow for it, saying it is too precious to simply put in a drawer. He
buries it in the snow and tells Lily that he cannot fight for Brenda wearing her
ring. He ends by telling her not to worry about him, and walks away. A strange
person follows behind and digs up the ring Sonny has buried. Jax gives Brenda a new diamond and proposes again, saying they need to start from square one again. Brenda doesn't accept the diamond just yet and instead proposes an idea to go to New Orleans as they did before and then agrees to put on the ring. Brenda tells him she has arranged the next month off and is ready to spend all of her time with him since she told Sonny she would no longer be able to do anymore detective work with him. Jax is pleased with this announcement and tells Brenda he has to go meet with Miranda to work out a monetary settlement. Brenda is a bit taken back, but tells him to go ahead and do what he needs to do. After he leaves, she decides to take a shower and get ready for a late dinner. In the meantime, we see a mysterious person who has dug up Sonny's wedding ring from Lily's grave, sitting at a desk with a magazine picture of Brenda in front of him and writing out a letter and evelope to her. While coming of the shower there is a knock at the door. When Brenda answers, she finds a box of roses and a note with her name on it. Mac pays Sonny a visit at the club and warns him that Taggert is after him. Sonny insists that he is a legitimate businessman and has nothing to hide. Mac tells him that they may have found the body of Marilyn Cooper in Rochester and tells him he will let him know what turns up. After receiving a call, it is determined it is not Marilyn, but that traces of pure heroin were found in the body. After Mac leaves, Sonny and Jason try to figure out who is involved in trying to take down Sonny and take over his territory. Sonny says he is worried about Brenda's safety and them coming after him and her again. Mike butts into Sonny's business and asks what his plans are for the future and for Brenda, since she is in a very vulnerable position right now and has been around a lot lately. Sonny tells him when he makes his plans public, Mike will be the first to know. The mysterious stranger comes into play again, as we see him holding Sonny's wedding ring, wrap it around a rose and seal another letter for Brenda. At the same time, Brenda bursts into the club to confront Sonny about sending her the last bunch of roses. Sonny has no idea what she is ranting about and pulls her into the back room saying she needs to be very quiet. Brenda confronts Sonny about the flowers. He tells her he has no idea what she is talking about and that he didn't send her any flowers. He asks if she is really there because she has changed her mind about them. She tells him she meant what she said when she told him it was over and she needed him out of her life for good. She tells him she believes he didn't send the flowers and tries to convince herself that maybe just a crazed fan sent them. Robin surprises Jason for his birthday by showing up at the club. As they talk about how much they miss and love each other, Sonny and Brenda come in and Robin and Brenda are excited to see one another. Jason and Sonny disappear for a bit and let the girls chat. Brenda tells Robin she has missed her terribly, she says she is okay now but explains how insecure Miranda made her and how crazy she was. She tells Robin things are back to normal now and she and Jax are happy but that she's having a hard time convincing Sonny of that. Robin asks if he has been causing problems. Brenda goes into detail over the heroin incident. Robin thanks her for saving his life. Brenda says she doesn't know what she would have done if Sonny hadn't made it. Sonny and Jason return and call for a toast in honor of Jason's birthday. Sonny tells Jason he wants permanent guards to watch Brenda at all times in lieu of the anonomous shipment of flowers she received and the potential danger she may be in. As the four toast to Jason, Brenda is surprised to notice that Sonny is not wearing his wedding ring any longer and she drops her glass on the floor. Sonny ends up catching her hand and holding it while looking into her eyes, a very intense moment. Shortly after, she announces she has to leave and get home to Jax. Jason walks her to her car upon Sonny's request. Robin tells Sonny she thinks Brenda must have noticed the absence of his ring, he agrees. Sonny says he is so glad to see Robin and the two hug, she warns him to be careful this time with Brenda. When he comes back, Sonny, Jason, and Robin toast to Jason and he thanks them both for being there for him. When Brenda returns home, she tells Jax she was with Sonny and he was not the one to send her the flowers. She asks how things went with Miranda. Jax tells her all is well and that in a few days, all will be back to normal. Brenda tells him she can't wait to go to New Orleans. As the two dance in all their happiness, another letter with Brenda's name on it is slipped under the door. Tom meets Sonny in private on the waterfront to discuss his meeting with the Spencers. He tells Sonny that everyone is okay except there is no change in Leslie, which worries him greatly. He says she needs to be put in a special hospital and that he is pushing hard to get her into one he knows of in Switzerland. Sonny reminds him he was suposed to make things happen as long as he footed the bill. Tom says he is doing the best he can and that the Spencer's seem safe for now with their newly developed personas. Sonny says he is still worried about them hanging around the country because it is possible Stefan will locate them. At their apartment, Jax and Brenda revel in their happiness. Brenda assures Jax again, that Sonny did not send her the roses. Nonetheless, Jax disposes of them in the garbage with Brenda's help. She tells him that she has been trying to ignore what's been really bothering her, the thought of losing him to Miranda. Jax tells her he only wishes he could put her mind at ease and that pretty soon, with the signing of the divorce papers, everything will be behind them. Brenda says she worries that he and Miranda are better suited for each other since she is more finished and sophisticated. Jax tells Brenda he loves her for who she is and has never looked for a replacement for Miranda. Brenda suggests a shower for them and goes upstairs while Jax locks up. In doing so, he finds another letter slipped under the door with Brenda's name on it. He is furious and worried, so he calls security and tells the manager he wants full time protection over his suite, at all cost, in order to protect Brenda. The manager assures him that all will be done to insure her safety. Before he goes upstairs to be with Brenda, Jax calls Sonny just to make sure he answers, and then hangs up. The next morning, Jax hears something outside his door. When he opens it, he catches someone lurking in the corner of his eye. He shuts the door and goes back inside and upstairs. Brenda comes down and opens the door to collect the morning paper. Jax has come out a back way and with gun in hand, accosts the man lurking near the doorway. Jax confronts the snooping man and asks him at gunpoint if he is working for Sonny. The man says he has no idea who he is talking about and that he is just part of security watching over the apartment. Jax doesn't believe him and tells him to give Sonny a message for him, that he'll be seeing him soon. Back inside, Jax pretends all is well with Brenda and tells her nothing of the incident. Brenda senses something may be wrong and suggests that he may be having second thoughts over his divorce with Miranda, he insists he has none. Brenda notices a book with an inscription for Miranda inside on her coffee table. Jax tells her it is just some parting thoughts for her. He tells Brenda to get packing for New Orleans while he is gone and they can leave tonight or tomorrow. He warns her not to let anyone in she doesn't know, or let any packages slip by. She agrees to be careful and insists her days of detective work with Sonny are over. Sonny visits Miranda and suggests that Jax may have hired someone to kill him and whoever is responsible will pay. Miranda tells Sonny he is too paranoid and that Jax would never do such a thing. Sonny asks her why she is so nervous around Alexis Cassadine and why she and Jax came back from Australia together. She ignores his first inquiry and tells him she came back with Jax in order to give him a divorce. Miranda is annoyed with Sonny, who finally leaves. At the club, Sonny is confronted by Taggert who asks him questions about his whereabouts last night and whether or not he has seen Luke. Sonny talks his way clean and tells Taggert to get lost. Taggert threatens him and says he can take him in if he chooses. Sonny tells him many better men have tried. The man who lurked outside Brenda and Jax' shows up. His name is George and Taggert recognizes him. After Taggert leaves and calls Mac with the low down, Sonny confronts his man George as to why he is not still watching over Brenda. Brenda realized Jax forgot the book for Miranda and she shows up at her apartment to give it to her personally. At the club, Jax threatens Sonny to let Brenda go, stop sending her gifts and stop having her followed. Sonny tells him he's heard this before and to get lost but not before he encourages Jax to take his anger out on him by hitting him. Jax tells him when he raises his hand to him it will be to kill him. Sonny says his words don't surprise him at all since underneath the nice suit and smile, he and Jax are really a lot alike, both fighters with the same taste in women. Jax snaps back at him and tells him to leave him and Brenda alone as they embark on the first day of their new life together. Bottom line, Jax tells Sonny he doesn't like him and more importantly, he's not afraid of him, so leave Brenda alone. Sonny asks if that was a threat and Jax leaves. Brenda gives Miranda the book to her wishing her enjoyment, since it will be the last gift she gets from Jax. Miranda tells Brenda to cut through it all and tell her why she really came. Brenda admits she's not there simply because of the book, but rather to tell her it is time she let go of Jax for good and do the right thing by setting him free and relieving him from the guilt of the past. Brenda goes on to tell her that Jax has made is choice and she needs to realize he is no longer in love with her. Miranda tells Brenda she can't believe she has the nerve to say what she has and suggests she have a conversation with Sonny and tell him to stop stirring up trouble. She steps further to say maybe Brenda likes things the way they are with Sonny and Jax fighting over her. She tells Miranda that things are over with Sonny and that she needs a life of her own because hers isn't available. Before she leaves, Miranda tells Brenda not to think she has the right to hurt Jax and not to think she will just stand by and watch it happen. Brenda leaves, telling Miranda to enjoy her poems. Brenda confronts Sonny and once again tells him to stay out of her life and that she is not joking. Sonny tells her again that he did not send her any flowers or gifts. Brenda asks him about his visit to Miranda's and Sonny tells her he simply had questions to ask her about the night he was drugged. Brenda tells him to back off and that Jax had absolutely nothing to do with that and that he is on his way right now to pick up Miranda and sign the divorce papers. Sonny tells her he doesn't like that Jax left her alone while she has been getting strange gifts. Brenda says she will be fine and soon, she'll never be alone again. Brenda arrives home to find another not and gift waiting for her. She calls Sonny to chew him out and he asks what has happened. Sonny gets very worried when her phone goes out and heads to the PH. Sonny sits in his car looking up out of the window at Brenda's window. Brenda walks into the living room to get a pain pill. She takes the pill and then looks out the window, "Damnit Sonny!" she says. Brenda opens up the door to Sonny’s car and gets in and asks him why he's there because he was supposed to leave. Sonny says he won't leave until he knows that she's safe. Sonny wants to walk Brenda back up to her room, but she tells him to leave again. Sonny tells her to say hi to the doorman on her way up, he's one of Sonny's men. Brenda asks him how many more men he's got stationed there. Then she tells him that if he's going to stay to just be somewhere where Jax won't see him when he comes home. Sonny says if he comes home and then asks Brenda where Jax and Miranda are. Brenda tells him to get lost and exits. Sonny smirks to himself. Brenda talks to Jax on the phone. Jax tells her that he and Miranda are stranded and going to stay the night in a motel room together. Brenda is not happy, but accepts it. Jax tells her he loves her and Brenda just hangs up the phone. There's a knock at the door. Brenda jumps and then asks who's there. It's Sonny. She doesn't want to let him in, but he just tells her he'll use his key if she doesn't let him in, so she does. She yells at him and accuses him of being behind all of the presents because he wants her back so bad that he'll do anything. Sony denies it. They fight some more. Brenda keeps trying to get him to leave, but Sonny won't budge. He tells her about how easily "these people" got to him in a crowded hospital and in his fully occupied apartment building, so it would be easy to get to her. She asks him why they would come after her and he tells her that it's no secret what they are to each other. Brenda says were, but Sonny says are. Brenda tells him Jax will protect her, but Sonny argues that Jax is not there. She gets angry and tells him that that's why he's there, to try to convince her that something crazy is going on. Sonny loses it and screams at her that he watched his wife and child explode and he swore to himself that he would never let that happen to someone he loved again and tells her that he's going to protect her. He won't lose her. Brenda gets all quiet and tells him it's okay if he stays. Sonny sits down and she walks to the Brandy and makes him a drink. She asks him how bad it is and he tells her that he can't trace "these people" and that they're very good, which is why he wants her to be careful. She tells him she's not afraid and then offers him the drink. She takes a pill and makes an excuse about the pain in her hip acting up. Sonny says that he's sorry and Brenda tells him that they should stop being sorry about everything to each other and he agrees. She tells him she's glad that he's there and then exits to the bedroom. Sonny is sitting on the couch with a drink in his hand when Jax walks in. He gives Sonny a look that would turn anyone else into sand and Sonny grins and him and says hello. Jax is livid. He yells at Sonny and Sonny tries to explain why he's there when Brenda enters and tells Jax that Sonny is there because she asked him to stay. Jax is shocked. Sonny tries to get Brenda off the hook and says that he forced Brenda to let him stay there, but Brenda won't let him lie for her. She explains the fact that she received another present and called Sonny about it and how she was scared and how that eventually led to her asking Sonny to stay the night. Jax kept interrupting her through this explanationa attacking Sonny and her judgment so Brenda got pretty mad and asks him why she has to defend the fact that Sonny spent the night there when he had just spent the night with Miranda. Sonny jumps in and tells Jax that nothing happened and Jax says that he doesn't doubt that and then tells Sonny to get lost. Sonny says that he didn't come there to fight or to watch one. Jax says that the divorce papers have been signed and that he and Brenda will soon be married and its time for the triangle to be over. Sonny tells Jax he's a fool if he doesn't think that Brenda is in trouble because "these people" are using Brenda to get to him. Jax makes a good point by saying that if he really believes that then why did he spend the night there and reinforce the idea that "these people" have of his relationship to Brenda. This leads to an all-out shouting match with Sonny telling Jax that he can't not protect her because he watched Lily blow up in a car and got a needle stuck in his neck and he can't let something bad like that happen to Brenda. Jax tells him that he'll protect Brenda so Sonny can leave. Sonny says okay, but that his "staff" will be watching her at all times. He and Jax fight some more and then Brenda interrupts and says that's enough fighting. Sonny says okay and then reminds Jax of his triangle remark and tells him that he can't count (Miranda makes four!) and exits. Brenda and Jax are left alone to sort out what's going on. They argue about Sonny some more and Brenda tells him that she doesn't understand why he's attacking her. Jax says he's not attacking her, but he has every right to be angry because he came home to find her ex-lover on his sofa drinking his brandy after a night of emotional anguish. Brenda tells him again that nothing happened and asked him about his night. He tells her that she already knows what happened because he told her about it on the phone last night about it, something she didn't think to do for him. Brenda says she doesn't remember hearing about emotional anguish on the phone. Jax gets angry and tells her not to trivialize what he and Miranda went through and then tells her that he knows that she brought the book of poems to Miranda and he accuses her of attacking Miranda. Brenda downplays the significance of the confrontation and they fight some more. Jax announces that it hurt him to divorce Miranda and Brenda is hurt by this statement. Jax tries to stop the fighting and tells her he loves her and wants to marry her, but Miranda comes up again and that leads to another fight. In the end Jax just says that he's sorry for everything and exits to bedroom. Brenda goes to follow him, but turns around and looks out the window. There's a figure next to a headstone in the graveyard. The figure kneels down and is revealed to be Sonny's former right-hand-man, Harry. He's "talking" to Lily. He tells her she shouldn't be out here in the cold and that Sonny has to pay for the fact that she is. He gets up and walks away from the grave a little. He has a wedding band in his hand and he has flashbacks of Sonny and Lily's reception at Luke's, Sonny telling Harry to keep an eye on Lily when he was going to leave town with Brenda, talking to Lily in the airport and her telling him not to tell her father that she's coming home to Puerto Rico when she was going to leave Sonny, and a conversation he had with Sonny where Sonny blamed himself for Lily's death. Harry says to himself that it was his job to protect Lily when Sonny wouldn't. "Damn Sonny and damn me." Sonny is in the graveyard talking to Lily mourning the life they could of had if he hadn't "let" her die. He promises not to let the same thing happen to Brenda. We here a noise and Sonny whips out his gun and shouts, "What the hell are you trying to do to me ?" The other party turns out to be Tom. He's there to give Sonny an update on Leslie's condition. He complains about lying to Felicia and then tells Sonny that there is an opening for Leslie in the hospital in Switzerland and that Sonny better get the whole Spencer clan there by tomorrow. On a street in the city. Harry is walking and stops and looks up at the sky. He says to whomever, "It should have been you Brenda. Sonny should have watched you die." Brenda is reading a book on the steps when Jax enters. They greet each other and then Jax suggests having a late supper. Brenda wants to talk and Jax tries to get out of it saying he's too tired, but Brenda plunges in anyway. She brings up Miranda and Jax tries to reassure her by saying that he's divorced and Miranda is history, but Brenda questions why he gave her the poem book then. Jax asks Brenda why she brought the book of poems to Miranda if it bothered her so much. Brenda tells him that she was concerned about him and about "us." Jax doesn't believe her. Then Brenda says that she wanted to tell Miranda to let him go. Jax yells that it's not up to Miranda, it's up to him and he decided it was over. End of story. Brenda says it can't be over if he still has feeling for Miranda. Jax admits that he still cares about Miranda and that they'd probably still be married if there was no explosion, but there was one. He mourned her and then fell in love with Brenda. He tells Brenda he loves her and asks her to believe him because he is there with her. Brenda says that a part of him is with her, but another is still with Miranda. Jax gets frustrated and Brenda says that this whole thing comes down to the fact that he should have told her about Miranda before they got married. Jax tries to cut in by saying that he explained that already, but Brenda won't let him give her excuses again. She says she knows her told her he was too hurt and all that other stuff, but the real reason he didn't tell her was because he knew what it would do to their relationship. Jax says that he knows she's hurting, but not to every tell him how he felt after Miranda died. Brenda gets so angry and tells Jax that he doesn't have an exclusive on pain and that she hurts everyday knowing that he didn't trust her enough to tell her about Miranda beforehand and knowing that he's still hung up on his ex-wife. She asks him to stop pretending everything is fine when it's not just because he has some stupid piece of paper. Jax tries to reassure her again but Brenda mentions overhearing Jax say that Miranda was the love of his life to his mom in the hospital and reading his love letters to Miranda that say things that he's never said to her. Jax promises not to keep anything from her again and reaffirms his love for her. It looks like everything is working out when Brenda asks Jax if he slept with Miranda in Australia. Jax gets angry and tells her he didn't. They argue some more and Jax again tries to stop the conversation, but Brenda won't have it. She tells him she's showing him the woman he married, the real her and that all she wants in return is to see who the hell he is. They fight some more about Miranda and then Jax brings up Sonny. Brenda says this has nothing to do with Sonny, but Jax disagrees because Sonny brought her back to break them up. He begs her not to let Sonny win. Brenda starts criticizing Miranda and how she always ends up looking shallow in comparison to Miranda. Jax says he's trying to be fair, but Brenda screams that she doesn't feel like being fair right now and goes on about Miranda manipulating him. Jax can't listen anymore and exits. Brenda calls after him that nobody's perfect. She throws a pillow from the couch around and then says that she'll prove to him that nobody's perfect. She picks up the phone and starts calling someone. At the Spencer’s hideout, Laura is pleading with Mac not to take Luke in. Sonny walks in to try to help convince Mac to let them go. He yells at Tom for not following instructions and Tom says he doesn't take orders from Sonny. Luke tries to convince Mac again that Stefan is trying to frame him for Katherine's shooting. Mac comes up with the scenario that while Luke was threatening Stefan, he shot at him and accidentally hit Katherine instead. Sonny says they're wasting time, that Mac is outnumbered and tells the Spencers to get their stuff and get ready to go. Mac says that no one is going anywhere. Luke promises to come back after he gets Leslie and the family to Switzerland, but Mac says he can't trust him after their stunt of faking Laura's death. Luke promises that after his name is cleared he won't hear of them again in Port Charles if Mac will just let him get his family to Switzerland. They make the case for Leslie's recovery and need to get to the swiss clinic and Tom backs up their story. Suddenly we hear a loud voice being amplified from outside. It's Taggert saying that he's got the place surrounded, so put down your weapons and put your hands where they can be seen. Mac says you heard the man and pulls out his gun. Luke goes to the door and opens it to face Taggert. He says he's unarmed and Taggert orders Luke and Laura's arrest (Laura's an accessory). Then he waltzes in and yells at Mac for not calling for backup. Mac yells back and asks how Taggert got there in the first place. He was following Tom, like Mac told him to and when Mac went and then Sonny entered and Mac didn't come out Taggert got worried and called for backup. Sonny mouths off and Taggert orders his arrest which Mac agrees with. They cuff Sonny and Tom. Taggert takes Sonny and Tom outside to van waiting to take them to the police station. Sonny asks Taggert what his beef with him is. Sonny says it seems personal, but Taggert brushes off the comment and pushes him towards the van. Tom apologizes for letting himself be followed and Sonny scolds him for doing it. Luke asks Sonny if he's ever spent a night in a holding cell before? Sonny says it'll be no problem only he says that too many times and seems very nervous. When Taggert returns Sonny asks him to see his lawyer and Tom asks for his. Taggert refuses to let anyone see their lawyer, even though it is revealed that Sonny's lawyer is already there at the police station. Tom and Sonny are put in a holding cell and Sonny has flashbacks of being beaten with a belt and being put in a closet (claustrophobia). Ned and Brenda are at the Gatehouse. Brenda asks Ned for all of the information he has about Miranda, but Ned has none to give. Brenda gets a weird feeling, like the feeling she got the day Sonny almost died of a heroin overdose. Ned compares the feeling to one he gets at night when he knows that Lois is up with the baby in Brooklyn. Brenda resolves to get info on Miranda. The phone rings. It's someone calling to tell Ned that Sonny is in jail. Once Brenda finds out Sonny's been arrested she rushes to the police station. At the police station. Tom is freaking out about the fact that Luke was released and that he might get charged with something. Sonny says that won't happen. Luke will get off and so will they. Tom complains about the media coverage the situation might bring. He then notices that Sonny is pale and sweating and asks him if he's having a panic attack. Taggert enters and starts banging a club against the bars. Taggert assumes that Sonny is suffering from drug withdrawal. Tom and Sonny complain about their civil rights being violated because they can't see their lawyers or make any phone calls. Taggert says the paperwork isn't done yet. Taggert goes off about Sonny's "heroin addiction" again and says no one will believe Sonny's claims of his rights being violated. Tom says he can substantiate Sonny's claims. Taggert says that Tom is free to go. Tom starts to leave, but then decides to stay until Sonny gets out. Taggert is surprised, but can do nothing. He tells Tom he's crazy to want to sit for another five hours in the cell with Sonny while he goes through withdrawal. He makes some more remarks to Sonny and exits. Sonny ask Tom why he stayed? Tom guesses that Sonny is claustrophobic. Sonny says the cops can't find out or they'll call him in and keep him in a cell for anything including jaywalking, just to see him sweat and see if they can get him to talk. Tom guesses that the cause of his claustrophobia is childhood trauma. Sonny has flashbacks of being beaten and stuck in a closet as a kid. Tom provokes Sonny with too many questions and Sonny pins Tom to the wall. Brenda enters and tells Sonny that his lawyer is there and tells the guard to let him out. The guard tells her he can't let Sonny out because of Taggert's orders. Brenda charms him with the promise of a box of Jax perfume for his wife and just as she's getting somewhere Taggert enters with a club in his hand. Tom asks where Sonny's attorney is and Taggert makes excuses about the paperwork not being done. She tells Taggert to let him out now unless he wants to take Sonny's place in the holding cell there tonight. Tom points out how angry Mac is going to be when he finds out what Taggert is doing, but Taggert is unmoved and mentions that Mac might not be police commisioner after his talk with the mayor that he's having right now. Brenda says that if Taggert doesn't let them out she's going to call the press. She explains that she is the model for Jax cosmetics and she can get the press there in a second, ready to hear anything she has to say. She says they'll love to hear about the poor state of the civil liberties in New York. Taggert asks Brenda if she can spell that. Then he asks Sonny if he always lets girls fight his battles for him and Sonny says only if their good at it. Brenda orders him to let Sonny go and Mac enters and tells Taggert to let Tom and Sonny go. In the park, Sonny apologizes to Tom for jumping him in the cell and Tom accepts his apology. Tom exits. Sonny is worried about Brenda being out in the open unprotected, but Brenda reminds him that her driver is right across the street and the she is there with him. They sit down on a bench and Sonny compliments her on how well she was with Taggert earlier. He tells her that he's glad she was smart enough not to mention his claustrophobia because if the cops knew about it it would prompt them to bring him in and hold him over night any time they had an excuse. Brenda tells him that he doesn't have to feel like he can't trust her ever again. Harry is in the bushes watching their conversation and taking pictures of it. Brenda and Sonny get up and Sonny thanks her for her help. They're about to leave when Jax walks up. Meanwhile, Harry has called someone offering them front page material, Mob boss and the model pictures. Brenda and Sonny try to explain why they're together, but Jax knows that Sonny was arrested and that Brenda came to help him because Virgil (her driver) told him. Jax and Sonny fight about the weird gifts Brenda has been receiving. Jax still thinks that Sonny is sending them. Harry is still listening to the whole conversation from the bushes. Brenda tries to get Jax to go home, but the phone rings. It's Lois for Brenda. She's thrilled and rushes off to visit Lois after she makes Sonny and Jax promise not to fight. The two men fight over Brenda some more. Jax points out that no matter what Sonny cooks up to get Brenda to come to him she always returns home to him. Sonny tells Jax it's a good thing that Miranda is around to keep Jax warm, because Brenda always comes back to him (Sonny). Jax gets angry and lunges at Sonny, but Jason comes from behind and pulls Jax down. Jax threatens to kill the two of them if anything happens to Brenda and then tells Sonny to stay away from her and exits. Sonny asks Jason why he's back so early and Jason tells him that Mac called Robin with the news that Laura was still alive and Sonny was in jail. Sonny admit he's grateful to Brenda and Mac for getting him out of the holding cell before he killed Tom. Taggert comes by at that moment and harasses them. They learn that Taggert has been taken off the case. He exits. Sonny and Jason talk about what happened in Rochester and about Robin's new HIV treatment. Brenda arrives at the gatehouse and sits down with Lois to gossip about Brenda's reignited feelings for Sonny and her choice to stay with Jax because of the safety he can offer her. Lois admits to Brenda that Ned still makes her knees weak, but she's not sure if she's going to stay or not. She says she doesn't really know Ned, just the parts he lets her see. Brenda tells Lois that he loves her and Brook so much. She describes the night when Brook was born and how Ned held her (Brenda) pretending to be holding Brook in his arms. Lois is touched, but still undecided about staying with Ned. Brenda took another pill for her hip. Brenda comments on Lois not having any fingernails. Lois says she's going to grow them back once the baby is out of diapers, but Brenda tells her she looks better without the long fingernails. Ned enters with the baby and Brenda jumps up to say hello to her goddaughter. She takes little Brook in her arms. Later, after Jax and Brenda have left, Sonny and Jason come over. Lois scolds Sonny, telling him that he's too thin and that he should call more often. Sonny and Jason meet the baby and Sonny gets to hold her. Sonny tells Lois that she and Ned did a good (referring to Brook). Lois says that they think so. Later
at Luke's, Sonny, Jason and Luke talk about Luke's legal problems regarding the
Cassadine/Bell shooting. Taggart shows up to pressure Sonny again; Sonny and
Jason try to figure out Taggart's angle. Sonny
goes to Katherine's room to encourage her to tell the truth about the shooting.
Sonny goes to Miranda's apartment to encourage her to fight for Jax. He invites
her to dinner, but Jax interrupts them to chew Sonny out about the most recent
stalker gift Brenda received. Sonny, once again, denies that he had anything to
do with it and Miranda backs him up. Jax goes back to the PH and tells
Brenda where he went. Brenda is bothered when she finds out that Miranda was at
Sonny's. Someone is at the door so she holds up her knife and answers the door. It's Harry Silver which Brenda is thrilled about. She jumps into his arms and he manages to soothe her just enough to get her to lock the door and hand over the knife. It's then that he reveals his true colors and holds a gun to her. Brenda learned from Harry that he no longer worked for Sonny and then realized that he was the stalker. Harry detailed his plan to kill Brenda in front of Sonny. Harry slapped Brenda and forced her to write a "Dear Jax" letter. Taggart questions Sonny at the police department. He turns up the thermostat to make it really hot in the room just to get to Sonny. Harry takes Brenda to the catacombs and calls Sonny's cell phone and tells Sonny he has Brenda. With Mac's help, Sonny managed to get way from Taggert and rushed to the catacombs. Sonny told Jason that he was leaving to see Brenda. When Sonny arrived at the catacombs, Harry taunted him with the wedding ring he had dug up from Lily's grave. Sonny refused to listen to Harry's diatribe and blamed Harry for Lily's death. Hearing this drives Harry nuts. Harry tells Sonny about Brenda's drug problem. Harry holds Brenda and Sonny at gunpoint and tells them there is a bomb in the cave. Sonny and Brenda spent the night in the catacombs with Harry. Harry slipped and told Sonny that he was the one pushing drugs through Port Charles. Sonny told Harry that if he didn't stop calling Brenda names he'd kill him. Then Harry got mad and pulled out a detonater, and told Sonny and Brenda he was going to kill them in an explosion. Harry cell phone started to ring, and when he finally answered it, Dorman was the one calling. Dorman and Harry argued on the phone about the future of their partnership, and Sonny tried to get Harry to reveal his partner's identity. Harry then taunted Sonny about his claustrophobia, but Sonny turned the tables and held Harry responsible for Lily's death. Sonny continued to make Harry feel guilty and then attacked him. Harry and Sonny struggled for Harry's gun and Sonny told Brenda to run. A terrified Brenda screamed in horror when she saw Harry's gun go off twice. Harry was hit by the gunfire in the catacombs as he struggled with Sonny. A dying Harry then detonated an explosion that sealed Sonny and Brenda in the catacombs. Brenda was fearful that she and Sonny were doomed to die in each others arms. Brenda and Sonny realize they're trapped and Sonny says they'll suffocate eventually. Brenda confronts her drug problem and Sonny comforts and encourages her. Believing that death is imminent, a trapped Sonny and Brenda reminisced about all of the good times they had together and their regrets. Sonny and Brenda cover a lot of old ground and Sonny again professes his love. They talk some more about Mike, Lily, Jax. Sonny told Brenda that she had been the only bright spot in his life and Brenda told Sonny that he had never lost her. Brenda admits that she has loved him all the while. Sonny holds her tenderly and they make love. Sonny apologizes for ever pursuing her given his dangerous lifestyle, but Brenda tells him she has no regrets. Meanwhile, Jax, Mac, Miranda, Jason and Mike found Harry's letter to Lily which lead them to the sealed cave entrance. Brenda and Sonny are wrapped in each other's arms dozing from lack of oxygen, when Sonny hears Jax's voice. He wakes Brenda who cries out to Jax that they are down there and pleads with him to get them out. Up above, Mac, Jason, and Mike along with the Port Charles Fire Department try to determine exactly how they can get Brenda and Sonny out when all of a sudden the ground starts rumbling beneath their feet. The explosion Harry caused has weakened the ground above Brenda and Sonny and threatens to come down and bury Brenda and Sonny alive. Jason tries desperately to remember the layout of the rooms below, but he's having trouble with his memory. He asks Mike what the next line is to the Lord's Prayer. All of a sudden Taggert shows up and tells Mac he's here to find the Heroin. Mac warns him any trouble from him and he will fire him. As Jason walks above the spot where Brenda and Sonny are buried the ground suddenly gives way and Jason falls through. It opens a hole and allows the much needed oxygen in for the victims. Brenda and Sonny agree not to tell Jax what happened between them. Thanks to the hole Jason created they are able to lower a harness to pull the both of them to safety. Mac tells Sonny they need to come up together on the harness because they may not get a second chance due to the fact that the ground is so unstable. Brenda didn't hear this and Sonny insists on her going first. As she reaches the top of the hole, the ground starts to cave in on top of Sonny. Brenda screams for someone to help Sonny, and Jax starts digging through the dirt when he finds a hand! Everyone reaches down to pull Sonny up and he is saved. Brenda hugs Jax but looks into Sonny's eyes and smiles. |
