SUMMARY
When the former stars of the popular 1960's television show Captain Crimestopper are murdered, August suspects the show's star, out-of-work actor Wayne Berry, but Chase refuses to believe that one of his childhood heroes could be a murderer. At one of the crime scenes, the detectives apprehend a man disguised as the superhero, who turns out to be Berry himself, intent on finding the killer. When forensics concludes that Berry is not the killer, the actor is released, but an attempt on Berry's life at an autograph-signing puts the detectives on the trail of the one responsible.

TRIVIA
The boy who asks Wayne Berry to sign his picture of the new Captain Crimestopper say his name is Ricky Pepin. Richard Pepin is one of the creators and executive producers of L.A. Heat.
As an in-joke, Oliver King suggests cutting an action sequence from an earlier-produced film into a new project that is in production, something done on a regular basis in L.A. Heat.
DAMAGE REPORT
Vehicles destroyed: 2 (all cars)
Chases: 3 (2 foot, 1 car)
BLOOPERS
After the shootout, when the female assitant is holding Berry's wounded arm, there are no pedestrians on the sidewalk behind them, and the bench is empty. When Chase and August come back, there are four people standing on the sidewalk, looking on, and two people are sitting on the bench.
As Chase, August, and Berry exit King Pictures and descend the steps, the boom mike's shadow is briefly visible on the wall of the building, just ahead of August.
