July 1, 2007 - Sunday - Happy Canada Day!

Cool, cloudy, but not rainy. Yeah.

It's over! Yay! The barbecue was today and it was okay. It wasn't anything too special, but it was fun. Most things went really well, except for a couple of things. We advertised the party as starting at 11 am, so Fumihiko and I planned to get there at 10:30 to set things up and get the fire started, that kind of thing. However, when we got to the barbecue site, half of the people were already there. Huh? We got there about 20 minutes before the offical starting time, so what gives??? Why would people think it's okay to just show up like that? Didn't they have anywhere else to be on Sunday morning? Like in bed??? The other thing that was a bit of a letdown was the ice cream in a baggie. It didn't work too well today. Some people got ice cream, and one person (who doesn't like ice cream) got orange sherbet, but for some reason the ice cream didn't set for everybody. We also ran out of salt when we were making it, so that was a pain. Sigh.

Still, I think everyone had a reasonable time, and people got enough to eat, except, strangely enough, me! I had a little to eat, but not quite enough. I was too busy cooking food for other people. After the party I came home and ate leftovers from last week's meals.

After the barbecue, we cleaned up. Thankfully, a few people stayed behind and helped us, then hubby and I came home. We had a bit of a nap/relaxation time, then I had a proper nosh. I had tomato on crispbreads with mayonaise (western mayo!), then avocado on crispbreads with wasabi. Fumihiko napped and refused all food.

We checked the movie times and decided to go and see Zodiac at 6:00pm, so he went off and walked his dog, then we took off for the mall. We got there at about 5:45, but hubby decided he was hungry and wanted some food now. So, he went to KFC for some chicken. I wasn't terribly impressed. Still, it was what he wanted. When he got the food he had about 8 minutes to down it and then get to the theatre at the other end of the mall. I decided that we wouldn't go and see the 6:00 pm show after all. I preferred to see the 6:50 show of DieHard 4.0 (as it's called here). So, that's what we did. We had enough time to buy our decafe coffee, then go and have coffee in the coffee shop. When we got upstairs, Fumihiko got the movie tickets and I got the concession stuff. It was the 1st of the month today, so the movie only cost us 1000yen each, which was pretty reasonable.

How was DieHard 4.0? Not bad! I enjoyed it. It still wasn't up to DieHard, but that was such an amazing movie that it still holds up and inspires action movies today. The story was almost believable and the acting was fine. Bruce almost got to say his trademark line...it didn't quite come all the way out though. If you like the action genre, it's probably worth a trip to the theatre.

After the movie we came home via Gusto for a light dinner. I was hungry this time!

We spent a quiet evening at home. I was on my computer for a while, and Fumihiko was reading a book and chuckling away every so often. It's quite funny apparently. He's off to bed now. I'm debating staying up and watching The Dead Zone. I could tape it, but I don't know which channel it's on!

That was my day. The barbecue, she is over. Thank goodness! I may never do it again...it was so stressful for me, but I'm quite glad that I did it this time.

Talk to you tomorrow? Night!
