Game Review
Hesperia Christian played their final non-conference game against Linfield Christian and lost 68-56. Hesperia Christian was lethargic for much of the game with moments of intensity but it was not enough to beat an inspired Linfield Christian coming off an overtime loss to Western Christian. The Patriots fought hard to get within 4 points late in the fourth quarter but the Lions increased their resolve and defense and did not let HCS close the gap. Senior guard Josh Hamilton had 30 points for the losers. HCS' 56 points was the least number of points they have scored in a game this season. Linfield really stopped HCS' ability to rebound as the Patriots only had 21 rebounds on the evening. Everyone on the Lion's roster had a minimum of seven points or more except for David Hansen. Neither the Patriot players or coaches really seemed to have an answer to beating Linfield. Other than Hamilton with 30 points, Nate Glass who had six points and no turnovers (although again he only had one rebound tonight)and Sam Sullivan with 2 points, no turnovers and 3 rebounds, no one played to their level of capability. HCS is now 9-5 and opens league play at 5-8 Victor Valley Christian next Tuesday.
Game Preview
Hesperia Christian opens their final non-conference away game against Div IV team Linfield Christian. Linfield is coming off a tough OT loss 58-56 to Western Christian. Linfield Christian won the HCS Holiday Classic with a win over HCS 60-57 and a win over Brethren Christian. Against HCS Linfield trailed most of the game but had a big surge in the final couple of minutes to overcome HCS. HCS needs this win badly to even the series and send a message "down the hill" that they truly are a top four team as CIF polls come out next week. To do so they will need a big game from Josh Hamilton and Loren Barton. Linfield could not control Barton last game. Hamilton has got to improve his shot selection from the last Linfield game when he went 5 for 21 from the two point range. Mike Petersen needs another game like he had against Woodcrest Christian. Billy Hague, Zach Howard and Trevor Wagstaffe have got to get their 5-10 points as well and Wagstaffe and Howard have got to improve their assist-to-turnover ratios. Nate Glass will have to really play big as well and get 5-7 rebounds and prevent Linfield from getting second shots. Last time Linfield held HCS to only 26 rebounds. Defensively, the Patriots need to hold Wilson and Wold under 10 points a piece. HCS returns to action following a 2-2 record at the VCA Santa Maria Christmas tourney and a 63-57 final quarter win over Woodcrest Christian on Tuesday night and is 9-4 overall.
