Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat

Chapter #1
Best of the Best

1998 Seattle, Washington

Ken did a double back flip out of the way of his opponents attack, he took the offensive and smiled. He blocked a punch by his opponent and threw a spinning hook kick to his opponent's head which sent the man, spinning in the air, out of the ring. The judges nodded as he was granted the last point of the match. Ken sighed and wiped a thin layer of sweat off his face, "Why must I win every tournament? There must be someone out there who could give me a challenge. Ryu…where are you Ryu?"
Ken remembered all the good fights Ryu and him used to share, as they would get caught up fighting for hours. One always wanted desperately to win over the other and they would never give up. They could have trained forever, but sadly he knew all good things would have to end. He remembered the day Ryu and he had been told that their training was complete, and the look they had on their faces as they knew they were going to have to leave.
Ken had asked him, "Ryu, what are you going to do when you leave?"
Ryu looked up at him, "My parents died a couple years ago, I really have no home."
Ken looked Ryu in the eyes, "Hey buddy, you can stay with me for as long as you like. I would be more than happy to have my best friend living with me, man."
Ryu shook his head, "No, actually I think I should travel, and see the world in it's true glory. Besides, while there is nothing more Sho can teach us that doesn't mean that there is no more to learn. I will travel and learn to become a better fighter, maybe the best. I just want to go where the fights take me, you know?"
Ken smiled, "Maybe after a couple of years, we'll meet up and go a couple of rounds. And after I kick your butt as usual, I'll let you go and learn more about the world."
Ryu punched Ken in the arm, "I doubt that you will 'kick my butt as usual' Ken, because as I remember it I beat you the last time we fought. So I think you should be practicing if you know what I mean."
Ryu looked at the dawn, he had told Ken that he was to start traveling at the break of dawn to get a good start on his journey.
Ken nodded, "Yeah Ryu, it is getting late. If I don't start moving now I'll miss my boat."
Ryu and Ken faced each other. Now both in their twenty's they were now in great physical shape. While Ken wore pants and a shirt, Ryu had still worn his white Karate uniform and the red bandana that Ken had once given him. Ken had trouble remembering when he had ever seen him wear anything else. Ryu shook Ken's hand, "I'll miss you buddy."
Ken grabbed Ryu's hand and pulled in his hand forcing Ryu to hug him, "I'll never forget you Ryu. You were always there for me man. You be safe traveling the world you hear?"
Ryu nodded and picked up his bag. He waved to Ken and started walking into the trees and then stopped, "Best friends for life Ken?"
Ken turned around and smiled, "Best friends for--"
Ken snapped out of his thoughts as he was granted the gold trophy. "To the undefeated winner, Ken Masters!"
The crowd roared with celebration at the seemingly perfect fighter. Ken had never been beaten since he started going to tournaments at twenty-one. Ken was now twenty-five and bored of winning. He devoted a basketball court sized room to his trophies and medals. It was halfway full.
But none of the trophies or medals meant anything to him. Once, just once he wanted to lose. No, not lose but have a very tough win. Fights that Ryu used to give him everyday. Sometimes Ryu won, sometimes Ken did, that's what made it interesting. It was the fight, the adrenaline, the sweat, and the power involved, that was the rush. Not the win; to Ken the win was only a bragging right.
Everything was going good for Ken; he had an unlimited money supply, a beautiful girlfriend, and many friends. But Ken still found himself unhappy; he had great skills but no way to practice them or develop them to get better. He seriously needed a challenge.
"Where's Ryu?" Ken thought again.
That was Ken Masters last thought as he vanished into then air. Not knowing that he and his best friend/opponent would be brought together sooner then he thought.

Somewhere in South America

Ryu wasn't having one of his good days. As he found himself in chains, the tribesmen dragged Ryu to the Shaman. As he neared, he saw the 7-foot tall Shaman's skinny dark muscled skin and glowing eyes, staring at him and sitting on his throne made of human bones. The natives seemed to call this Shaman, Dhalsim. Dhalsim magically stretched his arm to Ryu and then snatched off his red bandana, of torn clothing, that he had always worn on his head. He spoke in his native language Obatam, "White man, why have you trespassed on our Holy Land? Have you no respect for our gods?"
Ryu answered as well as he could in the tribe's native language, "Me sorry, me not know that you land me walked on was holy for you. Me am sorry." The tribe booed with disgust and anger. Not only had he walked on the Holy Land but he also chose to make fun of their sacred tribal language! Because of the white man's ignorance, he had to face the worse possible punishment, facing the Green faced Devil!
As the confused Ryu was thrown into the 50-foot pit, the rotting smell of death overwhelmed him. When he picked himself off the ground, the sight before his eyes almost made him throw up. It wasn't at all what he expected. The death Ryu seen had to be done by something beastly, something horrible, something… demonic.
There were rotting dead bodies covered with flesh eating flies and vermin, lying everywhere. In the trees, the grass, and even the water hole had blood red water and various body parts floating around in it. There were fresher body parts and blood leading to the mouth of a very large cave. Still, Ryu sensed a life force some where nearby, no doubt the killer of all the dead bodies. Ryu's sixth sense was a very helpful and valuable trait he had picked up traveling the earth these last five years.
"Rooooaaaarrrr!!!"
Ryu did a three sixty-degree turn as he tried to figure out where that animal sound came from. What ever it was Ryu figured it had picked up his scent. It knew Ryu was in the pit, and now it was hunting. As the creature roared again, Ryu tried to locate where it was coming from, but somehow the roar seemed to come from everywhere at once.
"This is too weird," Ryu thought as he backed into the furthest wall of the pit from the cave. Just as he did, something dropped about 30 feet out of a nearby tree and landed less than 10 feet away from Ryu.
He now knew why the tribe had called this creature a "green faced devil". It was a monster. Its yellow glowing teeth were shining against the moonlight; its eyes were red like fire and full of hatred and pain. The creature's body was hunched over in a posture like an ape and like an ape it had fur, but his was a dark green color. The only thing that wasn't green on the creature was its hair on the top of its head and its chest, which was a bright orange color.
Ryu decided to put some distance between him and the creature so he could figure out what to do. Ryu jumped on to a small ridge someone had scraped into the dirt wall in a blind agony and from there, up 15 feet into a branch of a tree. The whole time he never took his eyes off the horrible creature. The creature smiled and then, using its powerful legs, jumped straight up into the tree and landed right next to Ryu.
As Ryu slowly walked backward on the shaky tree branch to get away from the monster, he said in the tribal language, "Please no hurt me. Me sorry. No mess with me. Me no have to battle you. Understand?" The creature then smiled knowingly and turned away. Ryu was happy, it had worked! Now he wouldn't have to fight the creature.
Suddenly, the creature swung his arm at him with incredible speed. Ryu then front flipped out of the tree and landed on the ground. As he looked up he saw that the monster had sprouted long claws out of its hands. They looked like long knives poking out of his fingertips.
Ryu felt a wet, warmth on his back. Investigating with his hand he saw that he had been grazed by the blades and was bleeding. He then got mad, in English he yelled at the creature, "Ok, come on! You want to fight? Lets go!"
The creature then jumped out of the tree and tried to land on Ryu to pin him down on the ground. Ryu quickly did a back flip out of the way. The surprised creature glared at him, as Ryu landed a couple of feet away and then sprang into a jump kick at the creature.
As Ryu's foot smashed into the face of the creature, the tribesmen gasped. How had that foreigner hit the great Green faced Devil? They were even more surprised when they saw that the monsters green blood tricking down its face.
Ryu then spin kicked the creature in the mouth knocking out some of its sharp yellow teeth in the act. Ryu then tried to punch it in the side but the creature quickly bit into his arm and set off a high voltage electric charge.
Ryu was electrocuted for 10 seconds and then thrown 20 feet back into the dirt wall. The monster then growled in triumph. He surely thought it was over. Ryu slowly got up, fanning the smoke from his body. He stood up at his full height and scowled at the creature while his hair blew in the night wind. He was obviously hurt, but looking madder then ever. "Good one," he said to the monster now in English, "but it's not even close to over yet."
The monster looked at Ryu like he was a ghost. He then roared and went into a berserk spin attack. He was somehow front flipping at him at an incredible speed, but only hovering a couple of feet over the ground like it was flying. Ryu quickly lay flat on his back just as the creature hovered over him. The creature missed him by only a few millimeters. Ryu then kiped up and faced his opponent ready for anything. The monster looked rabid, it was literally foaming at its mouth.
The monster then jumped at Ryu and gave Ryu everything it had. Ryu maneuvered, blocked, and spun out of the way of the attacks. After ten minutes of the attack the monster figured out it wasn't getting him anywhere and jumped away from Ryu to rest. Ryu then sat down on the ground, yawned and asked, "Hey, monster! You're tired already? I thought I was going to get a fight!"
The monster growled then quickly jumped at Ryu while he was down, but Ryu counter attacked with a sweep into a jump spinning kick, knocking the monster 25 feet back. As the monster got up, Ryu saw the color of blood in its eyes. He smiled, "Oh boy, it's really mad now."
It then rose its arms to the sky as dark clouds started to form. It roared as lightning struck him making him glow with power. As it turned and looked at Ryu, Ryu could see that its eyes were red like red-hot coals. It then roared in a new deeper, more powerful voice, "You will die!" It ran at lightning speed towards Ryu.
Ryu kneeled down low to say the words that his teacher had taught him, "Sho…" Ryu's eyes suddenly lost its pupils.
"ryu…" His right fist started glowing. The monster then sprang up into the air with an electrified jump kick right at Ryu.
"ken!" As the monster was about to make contact with Ryu. Ryu, with lightning fast speed and power, uppercutted in the air, hitting the monster 50 feet straight up into the chilly night air.
As Ryu's slowly fell about 20 feet back to the ground, he felt weak. It was either from the blood loss or using up so much power doing a Shoryuken uppercut. His uppercut was his second most powerful move he had been taught to do. Ryu knew from experience that the uppercut had enough power to break through a 5-inch steel reinforced door.
When Ryu landed on the ground, he walked up to one of the 50 foot high, dirt walls. As he started his way up, he heard the beaten monster's body hit the ground. When he turned and saw the monster's bruised, bloody, and broken body on the ground, he jumped down and walked over to it. He checked the pulse… barely alive. He then used the leaves and water in the pit to the best of his knowledge, to make the broken monster slings and potions to recover.
When he left an hour later, the monster was doing better. With time and food the monster would recover to be just as bad as before.
Facing the tribesmen after he climbed out wasn't a problem. In fact they were scared to even be close to him. Dhalsim gave Ryu his headband back, apologized, and gave him first aid for his cuts! Walking briskly through town Ryu thought, "That will teach them to grab a guy while he is sleeping!"
At the edge of town he heard the tribesmen in their native language bless him on his journeys. Instead of calling him just White man like they had before, they called him The Great White Warrior Whom Easily Conquered the Green Faced Monster but had Enough Honor to Help Him. Ryu smiled and started to jog away to the closest town. No one saw Ryu as he mysteriously disappeared into the nothingness.

Hollywood, California

"Hiya!" yelled the American superstar Johnny Cage, as he fought furiously with Lou Kang. As hard as he was fighting, he could only hit Lou Kang occasionally, while Lou Kang was thrashing him to a pulp. As Johnny Cage did a jump spin side kick, Lou Kang flipped out of the way and shot a fireball at Johnny Cage. When Johnny easily jumped out of the way, Lou Kang followed up with a bicycle kick knocking Johnny through the revolving doors of his training room.
"Johnny!" yelled Lou Kang as he ran out to help his fallen friend. Just as he walked out, Cage jumped up; spin hooked him and followed up with a Shadow kick. Lou Kang took the impact and flew back through the revolving training room doors and landed about 20 feet past them to the ground.
Johnny looked smug, "Looks like for the first time in years, I've beaten you in a fighting match."
Lou Kang slowly got up wiped the blood out of his mouth and said, "You haven't won yet, you cheep bastard."
Lou Kang then shot fireballs relentlessly shooting everywhere he anticipated Cage would dodge. This made Johnny duck and flip until he was so tired he collapsed. Falling to his knees to rest, Johnny Cage said gasping for air, "Lou…is that…all you've got?"
"Nope," said Lou Kang as he did a flying dragon kick 15 feet though the air hitting Cage into a wall. Lou Kang carefully and slowly walked to his friend who, this time, was down for the count.
"Johnny," Lou Kang said before he was suddenly teleported away.
