Chapter #2
War of the Realms
Raiden's Realm
Ryu quickly got to his feet when he saw that the floor he was standing on, was slowly moving. Not only that, but it was full of mist or something. Ryu was confused now more than ever, one second in South America the next in.... wherever he was. As he took a step he felt the mist's moisture wet his foot.
Ryu examined his location and he saw a hole in the ground. When he ran to it he saw that he wasn't on ground, but over 3000 feet in the air. Ryu was on a cloud. Ryu sat dazed, (something that didn't happen very much) looking but not believing where he was. "How could I be on a cloud?", Ryu thought.
"Hello?", Ryu yelled loud as he could. He knew he hadn't gotten up 3000 feet in the sky himself, and he hoped that whoever brought him here would show themselves so he could ask him why the heck he was there.
Suddenly, he heard a faint "Hello?", off in the distance
Ryu ran to the sound of the voice, occasionally calling out to make sure he was going in the right way. As the replies eventually became louder and louder the two people met face to face.
Ryu, breathing hard from the running, spoke first, "My…my name…is Ryu. What…is yours?"
The stranger replied slowly and suspiciously, "Kang, Lou Kang."
Ryu stuck his hand out, "Nice to meet you Lou Kang."
As Lou Kang and Ryu shook hands Lou said, "How did you get here," then he suspiciously added, "or did you bring me here?"
Ryu didn't have time to answer as suddenly a red flash flew in between them. Ryu and Lou Kang both back flipped away just in time for the red streak to miss them. As it landed, Ryu suddenly knew who it was.
"Ken!", Ryu yelled as the two hugged and excitedly spoke to each other. Lou Kang sat back and watched the two friends greet each other as if they hadn't seen each other in years.
"What's going on?", Lou Kang said just before lightning struck behind him.
All three of the fighters jumped back and landed in fighting stance. As they stared at the great Raiden, he spoke, "I, the great Raiden, have brought you here to warn you of a great threat to your realm. A great evil has looked at your realm and decided to make it one of his own. His name is Shao Kahn and he is the ruler and emperor of the Outworld. He is organizing his five best warriors to come and fight our best five warriors for the earth. You are three out of the five of our warriors. The earth needs you to save it forever."
Ken said, "Whatever man. You make no sense and I have completely no idea what you just said. I've never even heard of a, what was it? A realm, yeah that's it, what the heck is a realm? I've never heard of one before."
Raiden answered, "To mortals, a realm is called a dimension. Shao Khan's dimension is called The Outworld. It is the largest realm because it never stops growing. He battles other realms and when he defeats them, he makes it one of his own. This is what he intends to do with earth."
Ken, still not believing a word asked, " If all this bull you are talking is true, why should you even care what happens to us mortals?"
Raiden answered, "Because, Earth is important to the survival of all the universes. An undetermined person and us four are the only warriors who have the power to take down Shao Khan's forces. If we don't beat him now, no one ever will."
Ryu spoke up, "Who's the last person?"
Raiden admitted that he did not have the knowledge, but that he knew that the last man would be there at the final showdown between good and evil, because it had been written by the ancient monks of Gabetar.
Lou Kang slowly put down his guard, and said, "I believe you."
When Lou Kang starting walking towards Raiden, Ken called out, "Hey you, get back here! You don't know if he is lying or not. He could be full of crap!"
Lou Kang called back, "My grandfather had always prepared me for this moment. He told me that all this would happen. I never believed him, I never believed in him." He looked up at Raiden, now face to face, "I never believed in you."
Ryu started walking towards Lou Kang and Raiden. When he looked behind him he saw Ken following him, still in fighting stance, watching his back. Talking to Raiden he said, "Now that I am close to you, I can tell from instinct that you are not here to hurt us, but to help us."
He stuck his hand out, "I'm with you."
Lou Kang put his hand on Ryu's, "Me too."
They looked at Ken, who stood back hesitating. "Come on Ken, trust us," persuaded Ryu.
Ken put his hand down on top, "Ok Ryu, but only for you."
Raiden looked at the three warriors. "Maybe, just maybe we have a chance," thought Raiden. "Now we are ready to train."
Shao Khan's Castle, Outworld
Shang Suang quickly walked through the throne room to his master's throne. As he approached it he stopped and bowed to his master. "Emperor, I have organized the group of warriors for the conquest of earth, as you wished."
Shao Khan smiled, a smile that resembled a snake. He was about eight feet tall and very large. Looking at the evil emperor was enough to freeze most men in battle. He was full of muscles and wore a mask that he took from the front of his father's skull after he slaughtered him. He was the most powerful being in the universe and he knew it. "Did you get our four greatest warriors?" he growled sounding like a beast.
"Yes, master," Shang Suang assured him, "Do you want to hear the list?"
"Yes, but only to see if you screwed up or not," answered the Emperor, cracking his knuckles.
"In order of rank, I, Admiral Shang Suang, General Bison, Major Reptile, and our soon to be, Ensign Kane."
"How is Kane doing?"
"Well if you follow me to my chambers, my lord, I will most pleasantly show you how close we are to perfecting our warrior."
"You mean my warrior, don't you?"
"Yes, my lord," replied Shang Suang.
Shao Khan lifted himself up off his throne and started to follow Shang Suang to his chambers. As they entered, Shao Khan remembered why he had always liked it. The room was lit with candles which dripped blood, the unmistakable smell of burnt flesh, spider webs hanging everywhere, and he walked through Shang Suang's sacrificial animals dead on the floor. His feet splashed in the puddles of blood from the overflowing fountain, and watched Shang Suang's bodyguard Major Reptile, fade into view from the wall using his camouflage ability.
Major Reptile was a green ninja with the power to become invisible at will. This made him a fierce fighter and a perfect bodyguard. He had personally served with Shang Suang for over 300 years.
"Come here Collin," Shang Suang said to Reptile, calling him by his former name, "and help me open up the laboratory."
"Yesssss massssster," answered Reptile.
They all walked over to the back wall and to the lock console. Once there Reptile and Shang Suang laid their eyes upon it. The eye scanner hummed for a couple of seconds and then beeped. Suddenly, the whole wall opened and revealed a large black laboratory with red lights and switches everywhere. Shang Suang walked to the middle were there was a large bubble like cubicle. He then pushed buttons, pulled levers, and read charts.
"Well?" asked the impatient Emperor.
Shang Suang opened the cubicle showing Kane's naked body. "Here is our masterpiece, Kain," introduced Shang Suang.
Shao Khan looked over the tanned body as Shang Suang explained what exactly Kain could do.
"Master, even though we are restricted by the laws of Mortal Kombat not to physically harm any of the warriors before the tournament, from the accidents that they have had throughout their lives, I have accumulated drops of their blood. And with it, their DNA. With this power pulsing through Kain's veins he has the acquired power to shoot fireballs from Lou Kang, his speed from private Vega, to freeze from Sub-Zero, Scorpion's teleporting ability, a limited shape shifting ability from me, and from you he has been blessed with your superior strength and power. In a word, he is unstoppable."
"Enough talk," commanded the Emperor, "give me a demonstration."
With that Admiral Suang slapped Kain awake. "Get up and face your master. Bow to your Emperor, Shao Khan."
Kain slowly woke up. He then jumped out of this bed. Shang Suang smiled, "You see, I had also programmed him to already know how to walk, talk, and of course, fight. You see, he is our evil little warrior. Ours to command."
"You mean mine to command," and with that the emperor addressed Kain, "get dressed."
As he saw Kain start dressing, he turned to the intercom.
"Barraka, come, now."
In seconds the alien named Barraka ran through the doors. "Yes master?"
"You will fight our newest recruit Kain to the death. Do you understand?"
"My pleasure master," Barraka said before getting into his fighting stance.
"Fight!" was all Shao Khan said before Kain started unloading with fireballs hitting Barraka and throwing him into a wall. He then did Lou Kang's bicycle kick into him and then used the Emperor's strength to throw him into the nearby wall. As Barraka hit the ground, he teleported close to him for the kill.
Just as he was about to throw the last fatal fireball into Barraka, Barraka kiped up and jumped away to a safe distance.
"So you want to play rough huh?" yelled the bloodied Barraka before letting his blades out of his arms.
"I'll show you the meaning of the word!"
Barraka ran at Kain pointing his blades straight at his heart. Just as he was about to skewer Kain, Kain disappeared. Barraka stopped running and looked around. He was nowhere to be seen.
He looked at Shang Suang who was smiling. He then looked on to his master Shao Khan. No emotion there. Then he looked at Reptile who shrugged with confusion. He turned back to where Kain used to be and yelled, "Where are you?"
Suddenly, he felt himself very cold and unable to move. He watched as Reptile walked in front of him smiling. Barraka, still unable to move, then watched as Reptile suddenly transformed into Kain. Kain said to Barraka as his last words, "Reptile left a while ago. Too bad for you."
"Finish him," Shao Khan ordered Kain.
As Kain was swinging his arm in the air to shatter Barraka's frozen body, he heard a voice in his head, "No! That's wrong. What did he ever do to you? Killing is wrong."
Kain stopped swinging confused. The voice was right! The Emperor made him try to kill me. He turned to his creators, "He is finished. I have won."
Shao Khan was outraged. "I said finish him!"
Kain only replied, "Why?"
Shang Suang quivered at the dark and evil glare that Shao Khan was giving him. He couldn't believe it! His baby, his creation, had a glitch. Kain had a conscience!
"All that work for nothing! Shapeshifter, you really fucked up this time! Make me another clone; another one, with only the blood of evil warriors. So when it is born, it will be with a black heart." He grimaced, "Like mine."
Shao Kahn walked to the intercom, "Guards, come to the laboratory. There's some trash for you to pick up."
He then turned his anger to Shao Kahn, "If you ever screw up like this again I will kill you with my own hands. Do you understand shapeshifter?
Shang Suang lowered his head in shame and watched as his master angrily start for the door. Shao Kahn stopped and pulled out his sledgehammer, his favorite and personal weapon. In a flash he shattered Barraka into a million pieces.
After Shao Kahn left, Shang Suang spoke to Kain, "Well, you failed. You are a failure. I can't believe it, you son of a bitch, you with a conscience! Why the fuck couldn't you just kill Barraka?"
Kain said nothing.
"Answer you bastard!"
Kain lowered his head in shame, "I'm…I'm sorry."
Shang Suang smacked him across his face, "No, I'm sorry for ever wasting my time on a failure. You are nothing! Your replacement will be my greatest accomplishment. You are just one of the many mistakes along the way!"
Shang Suang turned as the guards entered the room, "Take him away!"
The leader of the guards, chief Montaro, looked around confused, "Who?"
Shang Suang turned around. Kain was gone! He must have gotten away! The Emperor would surely kill us for this!
"Spread out! Look for him," Shang Suang said giving Montaro Kain's picture.
Shang Suang made sure all the guards left and went into his secret room in the laboratory. He then walked to the two-way mirrors and stopped the recorder. Shang Suang had always recorded his work in the laboratory. Now it had come more than useful. He then took out the tape and put it in the holo globe. As he watched Kain fight Barraka. He then fast-forwarded the tape to the part where he struck Kain. He watched as Kain disappeared right when he turned around.
He then saw another man magically teleport behind the guards. That's right! There was only supposed to be 15 guards! Shang Suang ran to the intercom, "Guards come back immediately!"
As the guards entered, he only counted 15. Kain had already escaped! He then lifted his head to the ceiling and screamed with rage, "NNNNOOOO!!!"
Outside the Castle
Kain walked aimlessly through the rubble Shao Kahn called his empire. "Why would anyone ever want to be the emperor of chaos? There's nothing here but death." As he walked he saw first hand, of the evil that Shao Kahn released on the worlds he conquered. He saw animals and aliens of all kinds rotting on the ground, buildings that had to be the tallest towers shattered into useless piles of debris. Flames erupted all around him, while vicious animals searched for fresh meat.
Kain for the first time in his short-lived life got to experience pain, sadness, and empathy. He then knew what his mission in life was. To stop all the pain and suffering that Shao Kahn caused. He would have to stop Shao Kahn with any means necessary.
As he look a second look around, he knew this mission was for the survival of all life in every realm. He couldn't just jump into it blindly. "I need to train," he thought to himself, "To train until I become the best I could ever be. Good enough to kill Shao Kahn."
Suddenly, he heard something moving over a mound of rubble. He quickly teleported behind a pile of bricks, just in time to see an extermination squad sent out of the castle to get him. He then quietly ran to find a place he could escape the pursuit and train at the same time.
