Your Pets

Taking Care of Your Pets
To keep your pet healthy you need to feed and play with it. It doesn't take too much effort to keep your pet healthy as long as you know what it needs. For food, you can get free omelettes and jelly, as well as buy food. Tho you can also put it in the hotel for 10 or 20 days. I prefer to put it in the hotel...it gets fed automatically there, but you can still play with your pet and do everything your were doing with it before hand.
To play with your pet, you can play games in the games room and buy toys too. You can keep your pet happy by reading to it and making sure it has all it's hit points. Hit points are the numbers that say this 9/12...12 being the total amount of hit points and 9 is how many the pet has at the moment. You see the pet's hit points by going to pet central. Your pet can get injured in battle or in games. Games such as Wheel of Excitement and the Snowager can reallyhurt your pet. You should go to the Healing Springs in Faerieland to heal your pet for free...it doesn't always work but you can go to it every hour to try again.
Your pet can also get sick. Sometimes the medicines are VERY expensive and sometimes they are extrmely cheap...it all depends on which sickness your pet got. For a full list of the sickness and their medicines go to the hospital.

Raising your Pet's Stats
There are many ways to raise your pet's statistics. Here are many:

  1. Training your pets in any of the training schools...you must pay to get the stats up.
  2. Playing games such as Faerie Crossword Puzzle and Poogle Solitare
  3. Going to Coltzan's Shrine everyday in the Lost Desert
  4. Buying a full Secret Lab Map and zapping your pet everyday.
  5. Doing Faerie Quests
  6. Reading Books (for inteligence)
You can also give your pet special abilities by blessing it with a bottled faerie.

Your Shop

Your shop is a great source of nps. If you havn't already created yours you can do that by clicking here. It is good to be able to have as many items as you like in there so I suggest that you get your shop to a level 6 or 10 when you can so you can be selling items as you put more in.
A lot of newbies get ideas to have a raffle in their shop or something along those lines. I suggest that you do not do that. Most people will think it is a scam...even if it isn't. That is how I lost my first account (I wasn't trying to scam...I just wanted more nps lol). If you havn't already ready Neopets Terms and Conditions
, I think you should...it is good stuff to know so your account doesn't get frozen.
The best way to earn money is to find out what is really popular right now. There are a variety of toys, foods, magic items, and other items that are selling very fast right now. You will need to research these items so you know what is worth buying and what is not. DON'T BUY IT UNLESS YOU KNOW HOW MUCH IT SELLS FOR ON THE SHOP WIZARD. The biggest mistake you can make while trying to make profit is to loose it. You could buy something for 800 that sells for 200...so be careful. To get a lot of money you should look for items that cost less than 1000nps and sells for 2000 or more. It needs to be an item that restocks often and in a large quantity. If only one comes in the shop the chances that you will get is really small. You will want it to stock over 10 every time it restocks. After you spend an hour or so collecting these items you should put them in your shop and sell them for the lowest or second lowest price on the shop wiz (I usuallygo with the second lowest.) Leave your items in at that price for two days...they will probably be gone. The only reason you should have to re-price them is if you didn't take the time to refresh the shop wiz till you found the lowest price.

Auctions

So here are some tips and observations I have discovered at the Auction House:

1. Scanning For Items

There are really 2 ways to scan for items. 1 way is to do an Auction Genie on a particular item you have in mind, the Genie gives you the last bid and how much time is left on the clock. OR (my favorite) scan for items randomly with 40 seconds (or more) left. I do keep my eye out in particular for certain items like map pieces, paint brushes, newly released items or anything that is just so underpriced it makes your mouth drop. I never go for things like codestones or bottled faeries they are generally more expensive than at the shop wiz.

It takes a few minutes of searching out items to bid on but trust me the deals will come and boy do they ever. I always keep a second browser open at the Shop Wiz to double check prices. See something you like...Let's go bid.

2. You Found The Item You Want

You see the item you want! Heart pounding, you are just drooling over it. Your first instinct is to go bid on it right away. Well DON'T!! Take a deep breath and keep refreshing while keeping an eye on the time, the bid increment and how many people have bid. You have to keep calm, it is pointless to have a bidding war during the last few minutes of the auction, it only jacks up the price more and gets more people agitated so bids are flying all over the place and it becomes a little more trickier to time your bid to win the item. I Want That Item!

3. You Are Ready To Make Your Bid

Timing! Timing! Timing! Is key to winning at auctions! The more auctions you do the more easier it will become to get a feel for timing your bids. Because I have cable I can refresh it down to the last 7 seconds and I place my bid. Everyone server, service, everything is different. That's where the practice comes in. You'll know how fast or how slow your computer is. Also keep in mind Neopets itself slows down certain times of the day, so factor that in as well. It's Time...

4. The Bid

I personally go 1000 NP's higher than the last bid, on the more pricier items like paint brushes and map pieces but of course it depends on the item. Cheaper items I bid a couple hundred NP's more. Again I stress always do a shop wiz before placing any bids so you know how much the item costs. You'll be surprised once the auction is over how many people slipped in bids with you on top because you threw out that extra 1000 NP. hehe

Another thing I do to save time and less error is not to retype the whole amount of the bid. Takes too long. Just replace 1 (sometimes 2 if necessary) of the numbers. An example would be 10,000 replace only the first 0 to a 1 instead of typing out the whole 11,000. Once I've typed my bid, I'm at around 5 seconds left, here is where the timing and practice comes in I generally pause and count off several seconds in my head before actually placing the bid. BID SUCCESSFUL!

5. Woo Hoo! You Did It!

Win or lose click on "my bids" to make sure you have won. Just because your name is sitting at the top and the auction has ended doesn't always mean you have won. This does happen occasionally. Someone else putting in a bid a split second before you could win it. Also you want to keep track of how many items you have won so you know exactly how much you need to pay for it all. You Did Great But Wait.

6. Oh No I Won The Auction But I Paid Way Too Much

Not a problem. You have a second chance. There is a window of opportunity to get out of paying for the item while transactions are being processed. If you change your mind for any reason and don't want the item, put your NP's back into your bank account thereby nullifying your winning bid. The winner then becomes whoever came in second or if you were the only bidder, the item simply goes back to the original owner. Please note that if the auctions aren't backed up you only have about a minute to put your NP's back into your bank account or else you are stuck with the item. You can find out how fast or how slow transactions are by clicking on "Status".

There you have it! The Auction House is just another great way to make a lot of NP's. So don't be shy, come on and give it a try!

Trading

Aaah the Trading Post. For some it's a place to trade an orn for a bri, for others a way to get rid of a bunch of junky items for hopefully 100 nps but still for others another way to make alot of nps FAST. Here's some observations and some tips to score yourself some profit making lots.

1. As you know you the idea is to buy low sell for a profit and the trading post is no exception. Hunt for the bargain lots they are out there, you just have to have alittle patience like fishing but you'll find them they are out there.

2. Make offers on lots that have sellable items like paint brushes, codestones, dubloons, nerkmids and especially map pieces. Species weapons, petpets, food, plushies items like that are a little tougher to sell right away so unless you find an amazing deal, have a mall or you don't mind the items sitting in your shop for awhile I generally avoid them.

3. You found a lot and you'd like to make an offer. Make sure you know what the items are worth before making any offer. Check with the Shop Wiz on every item, this is a must! You don't want to end up paying more than what they are worth at the Shop Wiz. For unbuyables do a browse check of the item at the Trading Post to see what other people are asking as well as the rechecking the Shop Wiz, you never know someone may say it's an unbuyable but that's not necessarily true, or it may very well be an unbuyable but someone is selling it for under 100k.. Good Score!

4. Which brings us to the Wishlist. Everyone has em' so always read it over but take it with a grain of salt. Avoid the wishlists that say FREE or 1 nps. 99% of the time they don't mean that they are only doing that to get attention to their lots and will waste your time. Also avoid lots where they are asking for a huge amount of nps that isn't worth the lot. They generally won't accept, you can try offering but you'll most likely get rejected. They are like you trying to make a profit hoping somone will just take their asking price in the wishlist as what the lot is actually worth. If you see a wishlist stating "I know what the lot is worth" you'll have a pretty tough time making much profit off them. Again you can try it but generally they are the ones wanting more than what the item is worth. I always say if you want the item exactly what it's worth then stick it in your SHOP!

5. Hmm what to offer. This is a personal style that I feel you'll get better at honing in the more times you use the Trading Post. What I mean is you don't want to be greedy and offer a crazy low amount and get laughed at or worse called a noob but you also don't want to rip yourself off defeats the purpose. Again the idea is to make some profit off these lots, so depending on what is offered in the lot I try to first round off what the lot is worth, then take off around 5k off smaller lots and maybe up to 10k and up for bigger lots such as unbuyables. The more items in the lot the better the chance you can get away with skimming off abit more nps. As well if the lot is expensive some people are desperate and need the nps fast and are willing to knock off 10k, 20k or more. Haggle if you want but be nice about it, when you make your offer always leave abit of room for a haggle otherwise the lot is no longer worth your while. Remember your haggling is dipping into your profit. Let the other person do the talking and if they say oh somebody else has bid higher than you so you have to beat them, then you tell them they better go for the other offer because you aren't matching it. 9 times out of 10 they are bluffing to get you to bid higher. Its a panic tactic and you aren't falling for it. After a few minutes they 'll either close the lot or most likely accept your offer. Congrats!

6. The scams. There are tons out there so watch out. Avoid lots with a junky item promising to tell you where the faerie cave is if you bid a codestone or faerie. There is no faerie cave. Anyone making promises of secrets or anything far fetched are just trying to scam you. Avoid lots with urls in the wishlists saying how you can make millions of nps. Those are fake logins and generators to get your password. Avoid lots where people pretend the item is some hidden tower item like the Earth Faerie Leaves: Hidden Tower Item, Golden Ivy Leaves: just under 2k. One of the latest scams is the switcheroo. You see an Electric Blue Paint Brush and they are asking for only 70k wow you think thats a profit so you offer 70k. You then get a neomail from the person saying "I got alot offers of the same amount so to be fair I'm going to close the lot and the first person to offer again wins it". They quickly close the lot and put it back up only this time it's a regular blue paint brush and not the electric blue but you are so excited and you want that brush that you quickly offer without taking that split second to double check the paint brush and they quickly accept Nooooo. I've seen the scam using a shadow paint brush switched to a stone paint brush and a battle potato switched to a regular potato. BE CAREFUL

Have fun at the Trading Post and remember one Neopian's junk is another Neopian's treasure!

Shop Wizard

The shop wizard will find the cheapest items on the stores owned by users. To not use his resources would be to lose a lot of savable neopoints. Be sure to use it!

Ever wonder why, even though this page has your item at 1,000 and you price it at 999, it never sells? Or why you just never seem to find your name, no matter how low you price your item? Well here's why.

The shop wiz doesn't search by shop size, or anything like that. It goes by the first character of your user name, whether it's a letter, number, or the underscore. ( _ )

Here's how they break down: a i q y 1 9
b j r z 2
c k s 3
d l t 4
e m u 5
f n v 6
g o w _ 7
h p x 0 8

As a general rule, the FNV6 page tends to be the highest, and the CKS3 the lowest, and the others somewhere in between. When pricing an item, don't go by the first page you see! Hit the Refresh button (and hit 'yes' if it asks if you wish to submit the information again) until you find the page that would have your username on it.

You should be able to price things just right now.

Battledome: Weapons Advice

The Battledome is located on the Games Page, down at the bottom. You don't have to be a millionaire to battle, but you do need to have some neopoints. I suggest you have at least 20,000np(20k) before you start choosing your weapons.

Weapons:
I have separated this into three groups. Choose the one that suits you most..
1) Beginner / neopoints: 20,000np - 100,000np / pet stats: 20 or under

2 Improved Lightning Beam(ILB)-------1000np each, get them quick! (good attack)

1 Radioactive Snow-------7000np(attacks and defences, very useful)

1 Fire Snow-------1900np (attacks and defenses, very useful)

1 Dirty Snow-------1000np (attacks and defenses, very useful)

1 Slime Potion-------2000np (healing)

1 Silver Scorchstone (SS)-------3000np(defends well)

1 healing potion-------approx. 100np (juicy exlixers are best) (JuSt In cAsE...) Total 15,000np.

2) Confident / 150,000np - 500,000np / pet stats: 21 - 40

2 ILB-------1000np each

1 HH-------200k (get it if you can afford it)

1 Red or Blue SS-------Red, 40k...blue, 100k(healing)

1 Radioactive Snow-------7000np (attacks and defenses, very useful)

1 Fire Snow-------1900np (attacks and defenses, very useful)

1 Silver SS-------3000np (yes, you still need this)

One other item that catches your fancy

3) Grand Master / 500,000np - infinity / pet stats: 41 - infinity

Basically AnYtHiNg!!! Be warned, some items even if they cost alot, only do like 1 or 2 damage (it's just the rarity). Below, are ratings of some of the most popular battledome items:

Improved Lightning Beam (ILB): 8/10(great for starters, cheap and does good attacks) Grand Lightning Beam (GLB): 8/10(most people say get a ILB because GLBs are overrated (well they are actually), personally, I think that if you can afford a GLB, get one) Wand of the Air Faerie (WAF): 7/10(I can't afford this but it's a pretty good item to have, overrated but who cares when you've got heaps of neopoints?) Snow Flame (SF): 6/10(don't know much about this item so I’m just taking a guess) Battle Slices (slices): 8/10(good damage but expensive, suggest you think twice before getting one) Rod of Nova (RON): 9/10(Rod of _____ Nova are all overrated, but are useful) Rod of Supernova (ROS): 9/10 Rod of Dark Nova (RODN): 9/10 Attack Fork (AF): 3/10(very stupid item, currently at the price of NP, and doesn't do much attack at all) Hypno Helmet (HH): 10/10(a much have!!! save up to buy it! I assure you it's worth it) Dual Expert Bow (DEB): 4/10(way overpriced) Ancient Manchu Bow (AMB): 3/10 (waaaaaaay overpriced)

You will need a Tagobo Potion in your inventory and then go to the Rock Pool and click on Jhuidah in the bowl. You will then get a new page and get the avatar notice along with Jhuidah's story.

How to get a Tagobo Potion? It is a cooking pot item. You combine a Green Uni Morphing Potion, a Slugroot, and Peach Jelly to make the Botago plant. Then you combine the Botago plant and a Tabogo plant in the Cooking Pot to make a Tagobo Potion.

NOTE: Jhuidah has now been freed so it is unknown at this time how this will work or if you will even be able to get this avatar now. We have been told that you cannot. If you know otherwise, email us.

Coconut
You will need to be lucky enough to have a Coconut Jubjub and then feed it a Coconut Cocktail.

Heermeedjet and Meerouladen
You will have to defeat the Meerca Henchmen in the Battledome for Defenders of Neopia Mission 8 to get these avatars. If you do not have them yet, click here and refresh until you get them. Once you have beat the Meerca Henchmen in the Battledome, click on the "Return to Defenders of Neopia" and refresh that page until you get both avatars.

Warrior
It has been reported that the way to get this avatar is to have the Grarrl Gladiator (TCG) in your inventory or in your TCG Album however we have not been able to confirm either so if you know for "fact" how get this one, please email us.

Chokato
You need to have to have a Chokato (TCG) in your inventory and refresh.

Squawk
Go to the NeoBoards and in a post, type the word squawk.
