The Qur’an Supports The Bible

Muslims claim the Bible was corrupted. The Qur’an states the opposite. In fact, the Qur’an not only supports the legitimacy of the Bible, but also presents a more important fact. The Bible are is not the only scripture. The real scripture is in heaven.

What The Qur’an Says Of The Bible

The Qur’an never directly states that the Bible was corrupted. Only two verses come close.

Surah 5:13 But because of their breach of their covenant, We cursed them, and made their hearts grow hard; they change the words from their (right) places and forget a good part of the message that was sent them, nor wilt thou cease to find them- barring a few - ever bent on (new) deceits: but forgive them, and overlook (their misdeeds): for Allah loveth those who are kind.

Surah 7:162 But the transgressors among them changed the word from that which had been given them so We sent on them a plague from heaven. For that they repeatedly transgressed.

Surah 5:13 is about Israel forgetting their messengers, and “changing words from their (right) places.”

Of first importance, note that this verse refers to the “messengers” they received, and is not about the “Book” or the Bible. Second, the word “right” is not in the Arabic Qur’an. It was added to clarify the translation. What does this all mean? There are many verses in the Qur’an telling how the Jews either misinterpreted the Bible, left out parts, or ignored others. Jesus himself accused the Pharisees of nullifying the Mosaic Law with their traditions and interpretations. This would be “changing words” from their right places, but not necessarily corruption of the Bible itself.

Surah 7:162 is similar. Lawyers and judges throughout history have changed the meanings of words to interpret the intentions of legislators. Even society changes the meaning of words. The word “gay” used to mean “happy.” Now it has an entirely different meaning.
