The Role of Muhammad & The Qur’an
Muhammad
Muhammad cannot be the prophet who supercedes all others. Nor can he be the final successor because the Qur’an does not support this.
1. He was only one of many messengers.
Surah 2:252 These are the Signs of Allah: we rehearse them to thee in truth: verily Thou art one of the messengers.
Surah 3:144 Muhammad is no more than a messenger: many were the messengers that passed away before him. If he died or were slain, will ye then turn back on your heels? If any did turn back on his heels, not the least harm will he do to Allah; but Allah (on the other hand) will swiftly reward those who (serve Him) with gratitude.
2. He was not to use force or “arrange affairs”.
Surah 6:107 If it had been Allah’s plan, they would not have taken false gods: but We made thee not one to watch over their doings, nor art thou set over them to dispose of their affairs.
Surah 6:108 Revile not ye those whom they call upon besides Allah, lest they out of spite revile Allah in their ignorance. Thus have We made alluring to each people its own doings. In the end will they return to their Lord, and We shall then tell them the truth of all that they did.
3. He was only a warner.
Surah 35:23 Thou art no other than a warner.
4. His duty was only to proclaim the message.
Surah 5:99 The Messenger’s duty is but to proclaim (the message). But Allah knoweth all that ye reveal and ye conceal.
5. His credentials pale into insignificance when compared with Jesus or even with Moses.
- There were no special blessings.
- There were no miracles.
- He was not of the “line of the prophets”
- The Holy spirit did not indwell him or his followers.
- He was not a prophet from babyhood like Jesus.
- He was granted the rank of a prophet.
