This page contains:
  • A sample list of villas still available (as of March 2, 2004)
  • A list of villa rental agencies
  • Villas maps showing locations of all villas including ours

NOTE:  If you are planning to rent a villa, book now!  I just checked and about 3/4 of the villas on our original spreadsheet are booked!

There are still villas available, as you will see below, but they are going quickly.  You can wait to try to get a last minute deal (10-20% off), but it is a risk.  Check the availability calendars and see how booked up your villa of choice is before making that decision.

Bougainvillea - Garden (1-2 bedrooms)   May 28, 2004 to Jun 3, 2004 (7 days)

Remember that # of bedrooms means very little.  For example, Ixora, the above 5 bedroom is actually only $2520 for two people and $3850 for 10 people for the week (remember we're off-season).  Jungle Stone, with a spectacular view, is one of if not the most expensive at $2600 for 1-4 people.  Cute little Stone House is $1694 for 2.

These were from Caribbean Villa; for more options, contact the other villa rental companies listed below.

Villa Rental Agencies
There is a big range of prices, from about $100 per bedroom per night to $200 and up.  When looking at villas, keep in mind that May is low season for all villas. Most villas also have different prices for differently sized parties, i.e., the same villa might be $4000/week for eight people but $2500/week for four. If you're thinking of scamming this, take care, because some of them actually lock the unused bedrooms.

Below you can see where we are staying (Peter Bay) in relation to other villas/sites.  The island is only nine by three miles, so no matter where you are you are not far away.  However, because the roads wind around mountainous terrain, the drive from Cruz Bay (west) to Coral Bay (east) takes about 30 minutes, and the drive from Cruz Bay to Cinnamon Bay takes about 10-15 minutes.

If you want to explore villa options on your own, we recommend these sites, listed here roughly from most to least comprehensive:

Caribbean Villas: http://www.caribbeanvilla.com/villas.html
Viva! Vacations: http://www.vivacations.com
Island Hideaways: http://www.islandhideaways.com/stjohn/
Caribbean Days: http://www.caribbeandays.com/stjohn/
Lime & Da Coconut: http://www.lime-coconut.com/island_stjohn.php
Catered To: http://www.cateredto.com/index.html
Index w/features: http://www.onlinevacations.com/rentalhomes.htm

You'll notice that most of these companies offer many of the same villas - and all at the same prices.

Feel free to ask us any questions; I've done lots of research!

Villa Maps
The maps below are from rental companies: the first is Caribbean Villa and the second is Viva! Vacations, the two sites that I found most helpful.  The hyperlinks do not work from this page, but if you click on either map, you will be taken to the respective rental agency's sites with the same map where the links do work.

Cruz Bay is the port and the most populated town (for an island of 3,000 inhabitants that's not saying much).  However, if you want nightlife, that's where it will be.  Coral Bay is the other town, the sleepy side, and known as the place where Cruz Bay natives go for vacation.

As is apparent in the maps below, most of the villas are located on the southwest side of the island (from Cruz Bay to Devers Bay). The US Park does not allow for new building, so getting a house on Park property tends to mean a certain level of privacy.

Where We Are Staying
The red arrow marks the spot where we'll be: 2B villa at Peter Bay.  We're a little over 5 minutes away from town, so only about 10-15 minutes away from the villas on the South side of the island.
