Each and every character is unique
in some way. Each and every race is also unique from the others. This page
will give a description of each race that is allowed in Aurora.
The races found in the PHB will only be lightly described in this section. Others not found there will be given better descriptions. Remember, your characters race will really help with character development. It can describe how your characters feel about other races. It can also describe their personality. Remember, not every character of one race will act the same. Many of them are the same in some ways. Your character may not be like any other from his race. It is up to you. There are many different languages out there. Almost always, a character can speak the language of his own race. The languages are: Common, Oriental, Druidic, Elven, Drow, Dwarven, Celestial, Draconic, Gnomish, Orcish, Halfling, Demonic, Goblin, Sylvan, Undercommon, Terran, Abyssal, Infernal, Aquan, Giant, Auran, Kuo-Toan, Ignan, Slaad, Sphinx, and Worg. Below is a list of the character races found in the PHB:
Humans Humans are probably the most diverse of all the races. They come in many shapes and sizes. Generally they range from 5 foot to 6 and 1/2 feet tall. They range from usually 100 to 250 lbs. They are the easiest to get along with other races. That is why you can sometimes find a human in all other racial cultures. Even people of other races are found in human societies. Humans gain 1 extra feat at 1st level. They also gain 4 extra skill points at 1st level and one extra each additional level. Dwarves Most dwarves stand from 4 to 4 1/2 feet tall. They are broad and compact and usually very well built. At the age of 50 a dwarf is considered an adult. They can live for up to 400 years. Dwarves get along the best with gnomes because of their close relationship. Humans, halflings, and half-elves are regarded passably. Elves, with their fickleness, find it harder to gain the trust of a dwarf. Dwarves speak dwarven. They are generally lawful in alignment and tend towards good. Dwarves gain a +2 to Constitution and a -2 to Charisma. They can use darkvision to see up to 60 ft. They gain a +2 racial bonus with stonecutting. A +2 racial bonus is given against poison and spells and spell-life effects. They gain a +1 attack bonus when attacking orcs and goblinoids. +4 dodge bonus against giants is given. +2 racial bonus is given on Appraise checks that are related to rare or exotic items. A +2 is also given to a Craft checks that are related to stone or metal. Their favored class is a fighter. Elves Elves are all slim and usually shorter than humans. Most stand about 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 feet tall and weigh 85 to 135 pounds. They are a graceful, yet, frail race. They have no facial or body hair. They are adults at 110 years and live to be over 700 years old. Elves get along fine with humans, but the don't regard them with the same attitude they would with other elves. Half-elves are regarded with pity since they have human blood in them. They find dwarves have no humor. Gnomes are a bit trivial. They find halflings a bit sober. Half-orcs are forever suspicious. Elves gain a +2 dexterity bonus and suffer a -2 constitution bonus. They are immune to sleep spells and effects and a +2 bonus against Enchantment spells or effects. They can see twice as far as humans in low light. They are proficient with either a longsword or a rapier. They are also proficient with shortbows, longbows, composite shortbows, and composite longbows. They get a +2 on Listen, Search, and Spot checks. They know common and elven automatically. Wood elves know sylvan. Their favored class is wizards. Gnomes Gnomes have a love for animals, precious stones, and laughter. Although they have a love for fun, they still have strong dedications to practical arts. Gnomes range from about 3 ft to 3 1/2 ft tall and weight around 45 lbs. They have a dark tan to woody shades of brown. Their eyes are normally blue and their hair is fair. Gnomes bet along with dwarves the best with both having a love for engineering. They do well with halflings especially if they enjoy jokes and jests. They have a rougher go with members of taller races like humans, elves, and half-orcs. +2 Constitution, -2 Strength. They are small and receive a +1 Armor Class bonus for their size, a +1 on attack rolls, and +4 size bonus on Hid checks. They must use smaller weapons than humans use. They can see twice as far as humans in low light. +2 racial bonus on saving throws against illusion. +1 racial bonus on attacks against kobolds and goblinoids. +4 dodge against giants. +2 racial bonus on listen checks. +2 racial bonus on Alchemy checks. They prefer to be illusionists. Half-Elves Being a half-elf is sometimes hard. They find it difficult to live amongst elves because they grow up much quicker than their peers. When raised by humans the half-elf usually develops in maturity much slower than the rest of their peers. They have features of both their parents. They have shorter pointed ears than their elven parents. They range from 5 ft to 6 ft tall and weigh around 90 to 180 lbs. As in most races, the males are generally taller and heavier than the females. The difference, however, isn't as large as in humans. Half-elves mingle well amongst humans and elves. They also have an easy go with dwarves, gnomes, and halflings. They have an immunity to sleep spells and magical affects that are similar. They can see twice as far as humans in low light. They have a +1 racial bonus on Listen, Search, and Spot checks. They can use all weapons and magical items that elves can use. They don't have a favored class. They do well in any as humans do. |
