Okay, so we're on a plane headed for Japan. When we arrive, we are greeted by the Famicom Disk System. What is this disk system thing? You see, the Japanese got disk games before they got cartridge games. Normally this wouldn't be such a big deal, yet they got many exclusive Disk System games.
Games the Japanese got for the disk system? Well there was alot, from Doki Doki Panic to SMB2 (lost levels in the states), the Japanese got them all. Then came the Famicom carts. Numerous in number, these carts were manufactured cheaply and such. There were even boxed sets of games, such as the Wildgunman Set, which had no right to be released in Japan only.
Another thing was that games were always butchered by the time they made it to the US. The Castlevania games had cooler looking creatures, and the original Castlevania had an easy mode and numerous other changes. Castlevania 2 included a free card portraying Simon and Death. Ghosts N Goblins came with a bonus comic. And the box art was much cooler in general. Why can't the US be treated as an equal in gaming, not a less? Another thing to think about is this: the Japanese always have the games released over there first...it's not fair.
Below you can see pictures of several Famicom carts, some released in the US, others Japanese exclusives.
Akujamo Dracula (Castlevania)
Akujamo Dracula III (Castlevania 3)
Goonies
Goonies 2
Klax
Salamander
Konami World
Mother (Earthbound)
Rockboard
Super Sprint
Chesterfield
Mario USA
Sherlock Holmes (This is so cool!)
Holy Diver
Sweet Home
Maybe when the US, and parts of Europe for that matter, get treated above Japan, the Japanese will realize what it's like to be gyped on games. Then they will want the countries to have equal amounts of games. Until then, we must get importing.
