Pipe Dream Copied? |
Okay some of you may have heard me talking of a big NES scandle on the NES World board...well this is not what I was talking about either, just to put an end to rumors before they start. I just happened upon this while looking for some pictures of a Commodore 64 game Go For the Gold. I was looking through big lists/screenshots of the old Commodore games, and something caught my eye. There was a game entitled Pipe Mania, released in 1989. It couldn't be could it? Is Pipe Mania the same game as Pipe Dream? Sure the names sounded similar, and both games fit into the puzzle genre. This didn't mean anything though, Castle of Dragon and Castle of Deceit have similar names too...and they aren't related in any possible way. I just had to find some "hard" proof, such as some screenshots of some sourt. And then I found it, the picture to your left. The pipe pieces are similar, the format of things is similar. Both games have the big pipe thing on the right, where the flooze starts flowing. And then there's the display box on your left, showing what the upcoming pieces are. I thought I would write this article to inform people that sometimes a game on numerous platforms will have different names. I'm not totally sure about this, but I think the makers of Pipe Mania then made Pipe Dream. If the Pipe Dream people really did just copy the old Commodore 64 game Pipe Mania, we would have heard about a lawsuit I'm sure. Amazing what you learn just by visiting varius sites about classic computer games. Oh, if you want to see the box for Pipe Mania click here. |
