Ian Bell, one of the creators of Elite, also made a tank game for the Nintendo. This tank game was not just any tank game, it was a 3-D tank game. Yep a 3-D Nintendo game. This is so cool! The tank game was never released because Ian could not find anyone to publish it. It was due out in 1991.
 
Tanks is a really neat game. Ian released this "demo" into the public domain awhile back so I had a chance to try it out. The game's graphics are 3-d, but they are just drawn outlines like the type of 3-d drawings I draw. Pretty neat for Nintendo, but the graphics look dated compared to today's stuff.
Tanks takes place up in space and as the name suggests, there are 3-d tanks and also 3-d flying saucers, which look really cool btw. There doesn't seem to be any sound to this game either so I believe it was still in the works though the game says that it needs only 3d k memory to be completed. Dunno about that. |
