Raised Rose Motif
Lesson Three

This issue will be the beginning of the
Raised Rose Motif.

By now you should have at least one (1)
skein of yarn or
Bedspread
weight (10) thread and the hook that works
with the yarn/thread.

The motif made with 10 weight thread
natural thread and varigated thread,
using crochet hook #7 measures about 4 1/2".
Variations:
When I made the Raised Rose Motif Afghan,
I used one color of yarn throughout the project:

The motif made with Sugar'n Cream 4 ply
worsted yarn which is 100 % cotton. All
one color (to show you how beautiful one
color looks like with yarn instead of
thread and using crochet hook #H. Each
motif will measure about 7 1/2". If
making an afghan; your finished project
will measure about 45" x 60" which is
normal for an Afghan with a motif count at 63.

  • ROUND ONE:

  • 1. CH (chain) 6
  • 2. SL ST (slip stitch) to first loop to form a ring.
  • 3. CH (chain) 3 (counts as one DC crochet).
  • 4. Make 11 DC (double crochet) in loop.
  • 5. SL ST (slip stitch) to top of starting CH (chain).

  • ROUND TWO:
  • 1. CH (chain) 2 (counts for one HDC (half double crochet)
  • 2. In same loop make one HDC crochet
  • 3. * Make 2 HDC in next DC**
  • 4. Continue around from *-** (24 HDC)
  • 5. SL ST in top of starting HDC chain.

  • ROUND THREE:
  • 1. CH (chain)1
  • 2. SC (single crochet) in same loop.
  • 3. *CH 5
  • 4. SK (skip) next 2 HDC
  • 5.**SC in next HDC
  • 6. Repeat * - ** around making 8 chain 5 loops. If you don't have 8 then pull out and redo until you do. Otherwise we will not be
able to convert round to square later in the project!!!!
  • 7. SL ST (slip stitch) in starting SC.

  • ROUND FOUR:
This round is the first row of the Raised Rose affect.
If you wish to do in multi colors then you must
change to the other color now:
  • .....A..With the next color first loop
  • .....B..Draw that loop through existing loop on hook. (keep loops tight and
drop first color thread/yarn. DO NOT CUT!!

  • 1.* SC (single crochet) in CH 5 loop with multi color thread/yarn.
  • 2. HDC (half double crochet)
  • 3. 5 DC (double crochet)
  • 4. HDC
  • 5.**SC
  • 6. Repeat around making 8 petals.
  • 7. SL ST in beginning SC. (FIRST PETAL ROW MADE)

  • ROUND FIVE:
With beginning thread you used to make the
first 3 rounds YO (yarn over) and draw through colored loop. If keeping to one color then just continue with:
  • 1.* CH 6
  • 2.** Working behind first round of petals post and holding first petal forward; SC in post:

  • 3. Repeat from * - ** around
  • 4. SL ST in first SC.

  • ROUND SIX
  • 5. Pick up multi colored yarn and draw through loop on hook.
  • 6. Drop first color yarn/thread.
  • 7.* With multi color; SC in next CH 6 loop.
  • 8. HDC
  • 9. 6 DC
  • 10 HDC
  • 11**SC
  • 12. Repeat from * - ** around.
  • 13. SL ST in beginning SC. (Second row of Petals made.)

  • Now you have a choice if working on multi
colored project. The last row of Petals
can be made with multi colored yarn/thread
or with the solid color. My preference is
to use the solid color at this point. You
will have time to play with it until the
next issue to see what effect you like best.

    ROUND SEVEN:

  • 1.* CH 7
  • 2.** SC around post of previous petal row.
  • 3. Repeat from * - ** around
  • 4. SL ST to beginning SC.

  • If you choose to use the solid color at
this point then cut the multi color
yarn/thread about 2 inches from the project
(DO NOT KNOT)..just take the multi
yarn/thread and hold agains the CH 7 loop
and proceed making the next petal row
including the cut as part of the loop. If
you choose to use the multi color
thread/yarn in this last row of petals,
then drop the solid color and make the
petals the multi color thread/yarn as the
    above transition.

    ROUND EIGHT:

  • 1.* SC in first CH 7 loop
  • 2. HDC
  • 3. 9 DC
  • 4. HDC
  • 5.** SC
  • 6. Repeat from * - ** around
  • 7. SL ST in beginning SC.

    RAISED PETALS ARE COMPLETE!!!!

  • Practice these 8 rows until your stitches
are uniform and you have decided your
colors. Below are the sample variables:

Next Lesson we will be converting the ROUND
to a SQUARE MOTIF. Good Luck and Practice
    Makes Perfect!!!!
