Eddie Pope came to the MetroStars as part of Coach Bob Bradley plans to make the Metros a contender to win the
team's first silverware. Pope came to the MetroStars in the 2003 offseason with Jamie Moreno and Richie Williams for an exchange of Mike Petke,
a 5th overall 2003 SuperDraft pick, and an allocation. Now with the Red and Black, Pope was selected to be the captain of the team.
The players honored to captain the team usually are the most experient players on the team, and experience is somhing Pope doesn't lack. He
entered the league in 1996 and signed with rivals DC United. In his 7 year stint with United, Pope lead them to win 3 of the 4 MLS Cups DC
participated in. In MLS Cup '96, Pope scored the game winning goal in overtime, in a match that forced to play under extreme rainy conditions.
Even though DC failed to win the MLS Cup in 1998, Pope still helped DC win the Interamerican Cup by defeating Brazil's Vasco de Gama.
Pope, considered to be one of the US's defenders of all time, particpated in two World Cups, 1998 and 2002. He played every minute in the five
games the US played in. In 1998, he played in two of the three games the United States participated in. In his 56 caps with the US National Team,
he has scored 5 times.
