M1888/05/38 Commission Rifle

8x57JS

This rifle has some interesting history. Read about it on the M1888 web page.  Seems the Turks had a penchant for turning everything that they had (Lee-Enfields, Lee-Metfords, Long Lee, M1893 Mausers and M1888 Commission rifles) into a M1938 Mauser configuration.

This was my first purchase using my C&R FFL. It came from Navy Arms for the grand price of $89. It cleaned up nicely, though the wood is a bit dinged. It shoots well though, and that's the main thing for me. It's all matching. Wherever a # is, it matches the 11080 on the reciever rail.

It shoots well with the commercial 8mm Mauser. Though it is bored and chambered for it, I avoid the milsurp ammo for safety, and to take it easy on my shoulder.

Notice, in contrast to my M1888 Hanyang rifle on this website, this rifle is modified to take ammo via stripper clip rather than the en-bloc clip that dropped out the bottom when emptied
