Disadvantages

Unless otherwise specifically altered or contradicted in these house rule pages, the rules found in the 5th Edition Hero System apply at all times.

Points Per Category: Player characters may not take more than 40 points of Disadvantages in any single category (i.e., 40 points of Psychological Limitations, 40 points of Hunteds, and so on).

Skill Package Disadvantages: The disadvantages a character receives from a Skill Package do not count toward the character’s final disadvantage total.  Disadvantages gained from Skill Packages may not be taken in the characters disadvantages (in other word, you may not take a disadvantage twice).

Distinctive Feature:

  • Not All That Distinctive:
    • Hair color is not distinctive enough to be taken as a Distinctive Feature, unless your hair color is a shade not normally found in human beings (such as neon orange or lime green).
    • Belonging to a particular race is not distinctive enough to gain this disadvantage.
    • Unless you are tattooed over a majority of your body's surface area, tattoos are not distinctive enough to be used as Distinctive Features.
  • Noisy Aura (5 Points): This Distinctive Feature may be taken by Arcane spellcaster character, and indicates that their magical presence is so strong that any other Arcane spellcaster can immediately tell the character for what he is.

Enraged/Berserk: This Disadvantage may not be taken.  Rather, the character should take the Berserk Fury talent, which includes this Disadvantage.

Physical Limits:

  • It is highly recommended that the Master List of Limitations be consulted during character construction.
  • Normal Characteristics Maxima: All characters are assumed to have this limitation for no points.

Psychological Limits:  It is highly recommended that the Master List of Limitations be consulted during character construction.

Social Limitation:

  • It is highly recommended that the Master List of Limitations be consulted during character construction.
  • Beardless (5 Points): This Social Limitation may only be taken by Dwarves, and indicates a character who suffers the public shame of being beardless.  The beardless condition may be self-imposed, or it may be part of a criminal penalty of some kind.  In either case, other dwarves look down on the Beardless character and treat him as somehow less than "human".
