Black Opal:
A greenish-blue type of opal with black mottling and
flecks of gold. Its not very black at all.
Black Sapphire: A deep
black type of sapphire with white highlights. The black sapphire is one of
the most valuable gemstones in Taranche.
Blood Tears:
Cherry-red, blood-crimson, or fiery-orange crystals.
Legend says that they are tears shed by lovers for their beloveds who were slain
in battle.
Deathlight: Also called
"fool's trap" and "false safety", this deep, black easily crumbled stone glows
with a sickly green light. Found only in the deepest of caverns, this
stone has lead to the deaths of countless subterranean explorers. Constant
exposure to the stone weakens and eventually kills whoever carries deathlight
stone, as if the stone itself carried some form of wasting disease.
Demon Eyes: These semispherical gems are dark green when cool, but begin to glow brighter green when warmed. At skin temperature, they radiate a
2-foot circle of bright green light.
Greyveil: Cloudy, translucent crystal that is found in long thin sheets; it diffracts light in an unusual manner that allows one to look through it and see through illusions and invisibility spells - the spells become hazy and the real image can barely be discerned.
Halostone: Halostone is
a colorless, translucent gemstone of middling value. Its primary point of
attraction is the fact that when it catches the light, it gives off an
amber-colored halo.
Heatdrink:
Heatdrink is a black, hard stone that absorbs heat and light. It is
incredibly rare and thus incredibly valuable. A common belief among
peasants is that if a small stone of heatdrink is placed in a vampire's
mouth, the creature will die, but will revive if the stone is removed.
Phraetes: A decorative white, hard stone favored in Saldon and by the wealthy. Phraetes can be polished to a high shine and is sometimes marbleized with veins of darker colors:
black, purplish-black, deep red, pale green, metallic silver - beautiful but less
durable, and gold. The last is a tawny red-gold, also beautiful but subject to
crumbling.
Shieldstone: A
soft, greenish-white stone most often found in exposed canyon walls. It is
a popular gemstone with those who cannot afford flashier stones.
