The TN Civil War Questionnaire, Vol 5, S Hist Press, contains pers interviewspouse: Lancaster, Mary Emalyn (1849 - 1915)in 1920s. Summarized info therefrom fol: As child in Randolph Co, NC, lived w/
parents in two-room log house,"one room a puncheon floor and other dirt".
Father a farmer and owned neither property or slaves. Attended little country
school for "something near two years". Was about 1/2 mi away and may have been
at Shady Grove(date of move to TN not clear). Enlisted in Confed Army in Spring
of 1864 at Union City, TN, in B Co, 12th KY Regt Cav. Sent to Corinth, MS. Com-
mitted to battle after several mo. Unit served directly under comd of Lt Gen N
B Forrest and highly regarded. His first battle at Brices Crossroads, MS. After
this, went to Shelby Springs, AL(?) and was in battle lasting two days. He was
captured and sent to Fed Mil Prison at Columbus, KY. After war ended, he was
released and returned to Obion Co, TN. He married, farmed, and lived the rest
of his life there. He stated he was a Primitive Baptist. He married Mary Emalyn
LANCASTER 25 Dec 1866 in Obion Co, TN. He later married a Lizzie (Elizabeth?)
unk surname, after Mary Emalyn died on 22 Jan 1915.
