Paint Job, 'Take 1 & 2' - Lesson ? 

Never Pay Up Front!

Ok, Lesson Number One Out of the Way, It Was Time to Make Sure no Damage Was Done With Their Preparation, So it Was Off With the Remainder of the Etch Primer . A Few Minor Repairs Later and the Painter (#2) Sprayed His Choice of Etch Primer then 2 Pack Undercoat . All Seemed to be Going Well at This Stage, and Around 6 Months Later the Undercoat was Rubbed Back and The Painting Began . When the Car Was Pushed into the Sunlight Excitement Turned to Disappointment . Every Edge Was See Through and There Were More Runs in it Than a Seasoned Grey Hound Would Ever See in a Life Time ! Out of the Goodness of His Heart, He Offered For Me Too Bring the Car Back After It Was Completed and Back on the Road, He Would Attempt to Rub Out the Runs and Repaint the Car Then . After Seeing a Few of His Paint Jobs During Our Spell Together, and Seeing the Damage He had Done to Interiors etc with the Sloppiness of His Preparations, There Was No Way I Was Going To Bring it Back With a Black $2,000 Plus Interior and Detailed Mechanicals ! Well Back To the Rubbing Once Again and Goodbye To $2,500 .

Our Upholsterer Kindly Lent Us His Garage to Store it in and The Daily Trek and Blocking Began . The Amount of Runs, 200 + was Incredible For Just 2 Litres of Paint . Anyway Something Like 2 Months Passed, Countless Sheets of Wet and Dry Paper Plus Several Thousand Gallons of Water No Doubt, and the Car Was Ready For Paintjob #3 . Also all Wiring Was Removed From the Car at this Stage, as a New Wiring Loom was To Be Fitted at a Later Date .

The Sad State it Came Back in After The Great $4,500 Outlay, Paintjob #1 .

Cool, Everything Started Out Ok, Here It Is In Its 2 Pack Undercoat .

Ok, The $2,500 Paintjob, 2 Litres of Lemon 2 pack and something like 200 + Major Runs Later, Back To The Rubbing Block .

This Time it Took Something Like 2 Months To Rub Out All The Runs Till It Was Baby Smooth Again !

Using The 2 Pack As a Base Coat It Was Almost Ready For Paintjob #3, Fingers Crossed, At Least It Was Hardened !

Finally! The trip out to the Paint Shop.

Ok, Here We Go Off To the Painters Again, This Time I Chose Someone Who Was a Close Family Friend . My Father Carefully Loaded the Car onto the Trailer, Then Slowly Drove to the Panel Shop . We Had Wrapped the Car in Plastic For the Trip Out, But the Wind Got Under it and it Stared to Lift . It Gained its Fair Share of Stares on the Way Out with Quiet a Few People Pointing at it as We Went Past . Cool . Because the Car Was Gutted, it was Light and Bounced Around on the Trailer a Fair Bit, Maybe the Reason Being the Trailer Had Solid Axles, No Springs ! From Where I Was Sitting, the Trip Out was Scary, My Father Being an Old Speedway Racer, Deaf as and Driving His V8 4 Speed Panel Van, and the Motor was Out of His Old Race Car ! Despite His Lead Foot, We Made it to the Panel Shop in One Piece, and in Good Time, At Least It Was There .

And Here We Go, My Dear Old Dad Towing My Car For Its Final Paint Job .

Up And Over The Train Tracks, Now, Did We Tie It Down Properly ?

And Into The Mates Panel Shop, And All In One Piece Too !
