Color Dreams Inc.

What Other Companies Didn't Dare Do

Color Dreams made two games featuring "Sodamn Insane". They were Operation Secret Storm and Happy Camper.

Color Dreams was threatened by various sources, but not sued, and Nintendo even referred to Color Dreams in a court case and used their method of production to show an example of a legal product, while suing someone else.

Color Dreams had planned a "Super Cart" that had more power than the normal Nintendo cart. It was in prototype form yet no software was ever made for it.

Nina Stanley still works making games, and is the daughter of the famous Ausley Stanley, known as "bear" in the 60s, and also at grateful dead concerts where he's well known for his scull jewelry which symbolizes the group.

Color Dreams also tried doing some development in Mexico, with a branch office and about 6 or 8 workers, but they never finished anything there.

Color Dreams was probably the only company that designed, programmed, built, and marketed their own product.

As a game's in development, it undergoes several name changes before the final game is produced. Color Dreams is no exeption, below is a list of a few games and their preproductive titles. Some of the preproductive titles are quite cool, I'd take Drug Czar over Raid 2020 any day. There may be more that I'm not aware of yet.
Original Title Released Version
Drug Czar Raid 2020
Who's Sane Who Operation Secret Storm
Lee Majors Game Secret Scout
The name Drug Czar was changed to Raid 2020 according to Frank Waung, because "Color Dreams thought the word drug would cause problems with parents, so we changed it to Raid2020." According to Valesh the name Who's Sane Who was changed to Operation Secret Storm because it sounded cooler. Lee Majors Game was changed to Secret Scout because they didn't get a Lee Majors license, according to Roger Deforest. Robert Bonifacio also told me that as far as he knows, King Neptune's Adventure was always the title for that game.

There was a bonus stage planned for Menace Beach, but the idea was scrapped. Martin Nielson, of NES World, provided me a picture of the sprites intended for this bonus stage because Martin knew I was interested in viewing this. This was as far as the bonus stage made it, I think the idea was scrapped to push a faster release.

Michael Denio has told me this about Captain Comic, regarding the glitch where you stand on top of the metal pole thing in the space area, and press up. I found this glitch in another area too--you can go above the roof in the computer room and this same glitch occures. Look at the pics below to understand what I am talking about, if you don't already know, then read what Michael's explanation for it is.

The Entrance to the Secret AreaYou Are There

This was a bug. I had "doors" in my code to take you to different worlds. When a door was unused, I put it at coordinates 0,0. You'll note you can't actually get to the far upper left corner of any world (except the space world). So, you actually went through a door, but where it put you was random garbage.

I have took the time to compile a list of alot of the old Color Dreams workers, and I've also included some of the dudes who did freelance work for Color Dreams. I'm sure this list is rather incomplete, but I am trying to finish it up. Any information would be useful.

1) Freelance artist/programmer
2) Related to one of the workers
3) Worked at Color Dreams very little, then moved on to another unlicensed company

There are two different labels for King of Kings, the original and the revised. A professional painter did the original label, but everyone thought it turned out lousy so Nina designed the revised label, which looks better I think.

I saw numerous copies of this weird Captain Comic cart. It is always the blue version of the cart, but for some reason the label was put on upside down! This isn't a one of a kind item, I've seen several in auctions and such, but it may be harder to find than the regular copy. I do wonder how this error ever managed to be made, and I wonder if this error was made to any other Color Dreams carts. Weird.

The box art to the right is of P'Radikus Conflict. The strange thing is that this box art was not the version used for the P'Radikus Conflict final release.

This boxart was snagged off of a game add for Color Dreams. Personally I think that this stuff is cool. 'Nuff said.
