Poetry is more expressive and abstract than novelistic writing. With poetry, you can write anything you want, in stanza form, and it doesn't have to rhyme to be a poem. Poetry is composed of words most average people cannot understand and would have to consult a dictionary to understand it. But even if they had to, they still wouldn't know the true form and meaning of where the poem originated. That is poetry.
