23 JULY 200 - I recently rented AUDTION - a Japanese film by director Takashi Miike. Brian recommended it to me. He hasn't yet seen the film, but one of his friends had told him it's the scariest movie she had ever seen. I've been on a horror movie kick lately. Watching those I've never seen before and rewatching the Classics. I can't believe some of the things I used to be afraid of. For example, Nightmare on Elm Street. Those movies are so lame! I still don't like them because even though it seems like good prevailed over evil, Freddy still always gets them in the very end. That's not really fair. |
On another note, I can't believe Poltergeist is only rated PG! Wild Wild West was rated PG-13. Come on now! My stepsister is extremely hardcore Christian and only allows my niece to view PG movies, and listen to only Christian music. She got mad once because my mom bought her the Pocahontas Doll and it had tattoos. They threw the doll away. Nikki (my niece) is going to end up in rehab by the time she's 15 if her parents keep this up. We were driving to the movies and Eric had the radio on 98.7. A Justin Timberlake song came on and Nikki had no clue who it was. That's sick! I thought all preteen girls knew about the Back Street Boys and NSync. I was so tempted to let her watch Poltergeist and innocently tell her mother "Well, you said she could watch PG movies." I didn't do it for fear that her mom would never let her come to Florida again...and that I might scar Nikkis wholesome, innocent and pure little mind. The part where the guy rips his face of is pretty gross. But the movies aren't really scary to me anymore. The scary thing to me is when that little munchkin lady comes and starts talking in her high-pitched voice. |
But back to AUDITION. Eric went to bed and left me to watch the movie alone. The subtitles irritated him. I have to admit that the subtitles are a bit off...you know...they say 30 words in Chinese and the subtitle simply says "hi". The movie wasn't scary. Not in the typical horror movie way. It was more disturbing. It's something you definitely have to watch. I fall short of the words to explain it without giving away the ending. It's a real mind fuck. I suggest checking out Film Guardian Review’s where it states "The movie becomes the kinkiest, creepiest, most pungently sexual horror film in recent memory: as macabre as a jewel-inlaid dagger or antique instrument of torture" and "Not a horror film exactly, nor thriller, nor even art house drama - more a cinema of cruelty whose flourishes are opaque, enigmatic and deeply unsettling." Changes are coming soon....This time I'm for real |
29 March 2003 Some of you keep wondering where I am and how I've been. Well, I finally have the Internet at home again. Big changes are coming for this site. I'll be writing again, and better organized. TTFN. |
