Game Review
In overtime HCS beats Apple Valley Christian 58-57 on a last second put up by soph Zach Howard. HCS trailed almost the entire game until the fourth quarter. Both teams played tremendous defense and the Warriors never led by more than seven points. AVC's Justin Nunes led all scorers with 25 points while Josh Hamilton of HCS had 15 points. Mike Petersen added 14 points while the game's hero, Howard had 13 points, none of them as important as his last second shot to win it in overtime. Hamilton and Trevor Wagstaffe had 7 critical rebounds a piece while Petersen and Sean Bayer had 6 rebounds a piece.
HCS' defense was perhaps its best effort of the season. AVC senior Drew Mercer was held to only 9 points. Junior Peter Kudrle was basically contained with the exception of a couple of spectacular alley oops to AVC inside men and a nice three pointer. But Kudrle was only able to get 8 points and very few assists. AVC senior Todd Kinnard could only manage 8 points and Wes Watts got 7 points. Soph Billy Hague, one of the shortest players out there got 2 blocked shots and 2 important steals.
The win now drops Apple Valley Christian down to a tie for second place with HCS. If HCS can win on Friday against Antelope Valley Christian, there would be a three way tie for the championship of the Agape League.

Game Preview
Hesperia Christian continues their quest to get a piece of the Agape League championship when they play host to arch rivals Apple Valley Christian. This is the first of two critical games for the Patriots during Big Game Week. They must win against the Warriors to make the game on Friday important. It is also the deciding rubber match for these two teams this year as they each have won once against the other. If ever there was a time for HCS to have all five players on the court play well, this game is it. Every ball must be contested, every AVC shot challenged and HCS has to shoot well and make few turnovers. HCS has to get 45 or more rebounds. A big game like this of critical importance does not come around often. None of the seniors have ever had such an important week in their four year careers. The other players may not get another week like this in their high school careers. These next two games will be remembered for the rest of their lives so it is important to make them good memories. For Apple Valley Christian this game is not as important. A loss puts them in a tie with HCS. AVC has always felt that they are better than HCS in every position. Peter Kudrle is the best guard in all of Division 5 in the state according to co coach Jay Harrie. Justin Nunes has been declared the most likely to get Agape MVP. And Drew Mercer is confident that no one on HCS can stop him from hitting his threes. HCS has the ability and power to change all that in this game. The players just have to want it and then execute to perfection. HCS did it against Pahrump Valley and can do it again. And finally HCS' sixth man has to finally show up in this game. HCS crowds of recent years have come to games as if they were being played in the school library. They are one of the worst crowds in the Agape League. Only Bethel Christian and Victor Valley Christian crowds are quieter. It would be nice if a Stanford-like crowd showed up on Tuesday night. Finally Tueday's battle is not only for the Agape Championship but also for #5th place in Socal Div VAA.
