Epidius

"The Master of The Art"
God of Magic

"Now... about The Art.  About magic... I think I speak with some authority on the subject.  By means of magic, I have lived for nearly a thousand years and I've done a great deal of thinking about magic.

And what I think of it is this:

The whole thing's a crock of manure. It wasn't worth the price I have paid... not for one second.  If I had my time to do over again, I'd be someone happy, and distant, and small.  Live in a hole in the ground, maybe... Never to get involved in the affairs of the great and powerful.  Never discover the joy of the Art.

That's the trouble with magic... Once you've begun to walk the path, you've got no choice but to finish the journey... there's no getting off of Epidius's Road."

-- Pescenilla Bara Kaesippina, "Final Life Statement Before Execution"
Archpriest, Counselor, and Ultimately Assassin of Emperor Placidus Vero (Later Known as Placidus the Cannibal), Recorded Just Before Her Execution,
12th Day of Goldenleaf, 2218 IR.

The priests of Epidius believe that the Master of the Art regulates the flow of magic throughout the world.  They hold to a philosophy of conservation of magic; magic should be used wisely, and only when necessary, and those who abuse it will upset the balance and cause Epidius to begin rationing access to it.  Epidius's priests often confront those wizards who cast spells hither and yon with no thought, and sometimes eliminate such individuals.

Also Known As: Soti (Chayk), Gricneron (Nerulk), Zsorvy (Rostok), Panoux (Kuzko)

Dogma: Magic used wisely is always there when it is needed.  Retain the sense of wonder when performing miracles; to do otherwise is to disrespect the Master of the Art.  Use your wisdom before your spells.  Any fool can call himself a wizard, but it takes wisdom and patience to be an Artist.

Allies: Ausonius, Calpurnia, Lampronus, Metilius, Manatus, Valgilla

Foes: Fadus

Armor Permitted: Priests of Epidius are forbidden to wear armor.
