Sabuca

"The Green"
Goddess of Fertility, Agriculture, the Harvest, and Life

"Greenbeloved..."

-- A Barind expression, indicating a farmer whose
land has produced several abundant harvests in a row

Priests of Sabuca love to see good things grow and prosper, be they plant or person.  Fertility of the land is their primary concern, since it means that the people living on it will thrive.  Sabuca's priests are well known for their good humor, their generosity, and hospitality.  They are expected by the goddess to give freely of their own food supply to any who need it.

Priests of the Green bless seeds, crops and farmlands, and commonly act as veterinarians... and once in a while have been known to be midwife to a pregnant farmer's wife.  Since they are often the only priest a small farming community has, they are often also called to perform weddings and funerals.

Sabuca's priests hate the undead with a passion only exceeded by the clergy of Lampronus and Calatora, since such creatures mock everything the Green stands for.  For similar reasons, they avoid participating in wars.  However, they have been known to rise up en masse to destroy hordes of undead or to wipe out a rampaging army who burn everything in their wake.  This has happened only infrequently throughout recent history, and usually comes as a great surprise to the commanders of an army obliterated by the fury of the "jolly farmers", as the priests of Sabuca are commonly known.

Also Known As: Auki (Chayk), Kerea (Rostok), Orva (Nerulk), Durrinn (Khazak), Gaulukh (Orcs)

Dogma: Home is where the hearth is.  We reap what we sow.  One should be like the land and enjoy growth.  There is always room for one more.  Children are the true eternity.  Let no day pass in which you have not helped a living thing flourish.  Always save the seeds.

Symbol: An overflowing sack of grain.

Holy Days: The first day of the year and the first day of the harvest are both holy to Sabuca.  The first night of a harvested is celebrated with a grand feast supplied by the temple and to which everyone who wishes to come is welcome (no one, regardless of alignment or reputation, is ever turned away from Sabuca's feast).

Allies: Calpurnia, Lampronus, Oranus

Foes: Desticius, Hosidius

Colors: Green and brown.

Sacred Animal: Cattle.

Sacrifice: One ninth part of all food to be eaten by the priest is burned in sacrifice to Sabuca.  Once yearly (on the first day of harvest) four bulls in prime condition are ritually slaughtered and a ninth part of the meat (along with the bones, horns, and other inedible parts other than the hide) is burned.  The rest forms the main course of Sabuca's feast.

Weapons Permitted: Sabuca allows her clerics to use bludgeoning weapons.

Armor Permitted: Sabuca allows her clerics to wear any type of armor.
