Rabirius

"The General"  "Master of Tactics"
God of War and Strategy

"In the practical art of war, the best thing of all is to take the enemy's country whole and intact; to shatter and destroy it is not so good. So, too, it is better to recapture an army entire than to destroy it, to capture a regiment, a detachment or a company entire than to destroy them.

"Hence to fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting. The skillful leader subdues the enemy's troops without any fighting; he captures their cities without laying siege to them; he overthrows their kingdom without lengthy operations in the field. With his forces intact he will dispute the mastery of the Empire, and thus, without losing a man, his triumph will be complete. This is the method of attacking by stratagem."

-- "On Warfare and Strategy",
Lord High General Brutus Sextus Gallo
Priest of Rabirius

The life of a priest of Rabirius centers on warfare.  Worship of the General involves training the body and mind for performance in battle.  When not practicing fighting techniques in the field, they hone their mental faculties through chess and other war games.

The main function of this clergy is to teach their underlings, but they also willingly act as officers in the armies of the various kingdoms.  This has often led to the priests of two separate Rabirian temples fighting each other; the General actually encourages this, as the lessons learned from facing one's peers are often more valuable than those learned facing an inferior foe.

The chief tenant of this faith is that success is only possible if each individual unerringly places the welfare of the group over their own.  This requirement necessitates a certain level of physical prowess and an increasing level of wisdom as one progresses through the ranks of the church.

The General is favored by those warriors able to endure the strict discipline of the faith.  Surprisingly, very few priests of Rabirius are born of the nobility. This may stem from the fact that occasionally the strategies that are called for are actions that some nobles see as beneath them.  Bested opponents are always treated with the respect due a worthy adversary.

Battle is the truest form of worship to Rabirius, and his priests actually seeks out opponents expressly for this purpose.  His priests especially favor combat with those who espouse idiotic notions of individual prowess and strength in battle.  Nothing makes the General prouder than to see his followers logically dissect a horde of Fadus' adherents.
