Metilius

"The Thinker"
God of Math, Science, Invention, Reasoning, Knowledge, and Wisdom

"And he hath raised us up from the animal and shown us the light of learning, saying "Thus is the way to paradise, that thought shall see and know and believe.  True power lies not in the sword, but in the book and scroll."

- The Scrolls of Enlightenment, Book 4, Chapter 24, Paragraph 18, Section 1

The clergy of Metilius are known far and wide as the Brotherhood of Thought; indeed "Brother" is the only title used by priests of the Thinker, regardless of an individual's gender or rank within the church.  The Brotherhood is steeped in tradition and ritual.  They are not prone to rash action or quick action, and tend to resist change.  This often makes negotiating with a  Brother an unpleasant experience.

Priests of Metilius meditate on seemingly unsolvable problems for at least two hours, hoping that the Thinker will bless them with the answer.

Also Known As: Griggvari (Khazak)

Dogma: Knowledge is power.  Only the Thinker knows everything.  Even the most knowledgeable man can still be educated.  Think before you act.  Patience and perseverance brings answers.

Symbol: A square enclosing a circle, which itself is enclosing a triangle, which encloses a square, which encloses a circle, which encloses a triangle, ad infinitum.

Holy Days: The seventh day of each week is reserved as a day for research, thought, and experimentation by the individual priest.  If at all possible, he spends this day reading, thinking, and taking notes, hoping to solve a perplexing problem, or invent a new device, or create a new philosophy never seen before in Taranche.

Allies: Artorus, Ausonius, Epidius, Manatus, Oranus, Pomponilus

Foes: Desticius, Floronius, Hosidius

Colors: Gray and white.

Sacred Animal: Owl.

Sacrifice: Metilius demands no overt sacrifice from his followers.  Rather, he only demands that his clergy do its best to educate those without proper access to learning.

Weapons Permitted: Metilius allows his clerics to use the following weapons: club, dagger, hammer, mace, staff, short sword, sling.

Armor Permitted: Metilius permits his priests to only wear leather armor.  In addition, they are permitted to wear shields.
