Happy Birthday, Walt!

The Meaning of Disney by Kez

When I think of Walt himself I think of the ultimate dreamer, the man who proved that from nothing, you can do anything, and become a legend. The meaning of Disney - the company - is much more than just the enjoyment of the movies, parks or characters. It's a spirit, a feeling which can be experienced, but not captured, labelled or described to someone who doesn't 'get it' - even though it's easily recognisable to someone who has felt it. Well, Disney deals in magic - I guess that's what this feeling is. On a bad day, Disney makes the world seem a better place. It's a true, living magic which can last for every day of your entire life, if you let it. That's the reason why Walt will live on for hundreds of years more.

The whole Disney phenomenon is all too often misunderstood. It's often dismissed by those who do not understand it, as escapism. There are some who think that becaue I am an artist this is the only reason I love Disney so much, and I am content to let them think that, because they may not understand the truerer reason for my love of Disney. Besides, that is true, but it is only half of the truth. Disney for me represents a material, physical source of fantasy. It's touchable fairy dust. It *is* escapism, but not to the level which would exceed what is expected of any of our forms of entertainment. It merely allows you to leave behind your troubles for a few moments to breathe easy in a fanstacially imaginative world. It's a *real* dream.
Walt, himself, for me, represents the (lolly pop kin! Sorry, couldn't resist!) the dreamer, who has had his dream come true. And it serves as an inspiration to me, that come what may, if I have a goal I must "dog it", if I'm ever to realize it.

Disney means; determination, creativity, the simpler side of life, make believe, fun, believing even after 'the age of unbelieving', youth, dreams, and the most amazing works of art ever created...

The first time my parents noticed my love for disney was in kindergarten. We were given the assignment of drawing an illustration book of our favorite hero. While others in my class drew supeman and the president, I drew Walt Disney. My parents did think this was odd. At the time I had no idea exactly what disney was but all I knew was that it gave me something to smile about. So a few months after that day my parents took me on my first of many to come trip to Disney World. That trip was so wonderful. Disney is not just a name or a logo, but rather something that really does give you a feeling of magic. When I walk into the magic kingdom I truly feel that I have walked into a movie screen, cut off from reality. I love that. I love that disney is able to transport me into a fairytale. Disney is not s tage- as my parents thought throughout my child and teen years, but rather a love and passion that will always be a part of me. Sometime my parents look at me like im crazy when I watch a walt disney biography and cry (not for sadness but because I love it so much). SOmetimes I wish that other people could feel how wounderful it feels when I see, hear, or visit anything disney. I am so happy that I am able to feel that way and so strongly about something as wonderful as Disney.
