Newspaper article on death of Adel Kramer Dec.5th,1930 states that he
was a witness to Mrs.Ida McElrath (wife of S.B.McElrath) in the shooting murder
of Mrs. Kramer. The McElraths were residing in an apartment attached to the
Service Station owned by the Kramer family. Although Adel had befriended and
allowed the McElrath couple to reside on their property and gave them income
for cartaking their business, it had evolved into a dangerous alliance. During
the previous summer,Adel had convinced her husband Mr. Kramer to let her travel
with him on his summer entertainment-tour of the northern states. They took all
four of their small children, however could not take their pets. These were
two pure-breed German-Sheperd dogs and so they left them with the McElraths
too. On the Kramer family return to their home, Adel had sent Mr. Kramer to
inform the McElraths that they needed to turn over the cash proceeds of the
business and send the two dogs home to the Kramer children. Also they owed
proceeds they had collected from the other rental cottages the Kramers had left
her charge. The McElrath couple declined to turn over either money or the
pets and threaten Mr. Kramer, who returned to tell his wife of the event. Adel
who had just returned from buying Christmas gifts for her children was not to
be convinced that the situtation was this dangerous and went to confront her
friend Ida. When she entered the store with her young daughter in tow, she was
not prepared for the disgruntled state she found the McElraths and when she
said,"I will return with the police and have you evicted", Mrs. McElrath took
a gun from under the counter and pointed it at Mrs.Kramer,it went off. Mr.
McElrath ran over to the stove where they had the dogs tied and turn them loose
and ran out the back door and left. Mr. Ansel Copeland who had been getting
gas ran to the Kramer house, with Adel's daughter and reported the shooting.
Mr.Kramer and Mr. Copeland transported Adel to the hospital where she died.
