!NOTES:
Redden name spelled 'Reading' on 1850 Gilmer Co., Georgia/spelled Redden on
the 1860 Henderson Co., North Carolina Census. It appears that the spelling
depended on the census taker discretion other variants are:Redon/Reeder etc.
Thomas P.Redden's father was given a land grant in 1780, and was a veteran of
War of 1812. The family has a tendency to multiple twin births.
Thomas P. Redden of North Carolina moved his family thru several states from
South Carolina/Georgia/North Carolina/Louisana/Alabama/Texas etc. The family
served as soldiers/ Postmasters/Teachers Lawyers/Physicians/Law Enforcement
Officers/Merchants/Political Figures/Music Entertainers/ and each family
remained deeply involved in community service with strong religious faith.
1880: South Carolina, Greenville Co., Bates Twp. Minor's daughter Susan and her
husband Jefferson Thompson are residing with the family.
1900: Minor gave his birth as Feb 1836, age 64 and wife Harriet age 54, with
birth May 1846. They had been married 39 years, had 9 children, all living.
North Carolina Reading/Redden Thomas P. family are related to Texas Redden's.
Clint Redden of North Carolina, could proudly narrate events of relatives who
served in the Civil War. One example is of his Uncle John Redden who served in
the Northern region during th Civil War; whereupon became captured, managed to
foil an escape. The escape was so amazing that the tale is recorded in several
historic documents and printed in book text; The War of the Rebelion Volumnes.
Clint goes on to relate how after the Civil War, several family members made
extra money by being salesmen and traveling from state to state in a wagon. On
one such trip they had traveled down thru the southern states and found their
to a man's door in Texas. While in conversation with this man they felt a bond
of common warmth and began asking each other questions about family histories.
They exchanged names and suddenly realized that the man was their Uncle John.
Uncle John was the Civil War soldier who performed the dazzling escape and had
walked all the way to Texas to save his life fron the "Yankees" soldiers. They
all rejoiced and joined together to return home North Carolina and celebrate.
I must interject the well known phrase " The Lord moves in strange ways ".
Clint remarks that the Lord"s spirit led the way. These salesmen were selling
Bibles, Seth Thomas Clocks, and copies of the U.S. Constitution. The Redden
family of Hendersonville, North Carolina hired a photographer Mr. Barbar to
take photos of all the family and brothers together. Mr. Monroe Redden, Jr. has
these portraits in his law office and home..
