Copy of Rev. War Pension #W-6983, National Archives, filed 16 Jul 1834,
Rutherford Co. Court. Abstract: In 1780, Mother and family moved to Rutherford
County North Carolina. He was 17 years old. His brothers were all in the War.
Shortly after arriving in Rutherford County, he joined a Volunteer Company
under Capt Adam Hampton in the spring of 1780. He served a tour of 3 months
under Capt Hampton and Col. Andrew Hamilton. He was a spy on the frontier to
guard against the Indians. He was discharged and returned home. At home,
Ferguson and his Army were stationed within 2 miles of his mothers house. His
company was kept together to annoy the enemy. This lasted for about 3 months.
He then returned home to find Capt. McClain recruiting volunteers to guard the
frontier. He joined again for another 3 months. This time serving at Waddles
and Russells Forts and on the lines as an Indian Spy. He returned home again.
He served primarily under the orders of Col. Hampton and Col. McDowell. The
last service was under Col. Williams. This affidavit contains questions posed
by the court and his replies. Thomas was 71 years old at time of application.
Thomas father had died prior to moving to Rutherford Co. N. C.

Broad beginning at white oak in est side of the said fork near the path running
east then to a conditional line to a white oak on the bank of said river, down
said fork of river to the beginning. (This land granted by patent to Michael
