Greetings, kind and weary web wanderers. Thou hast chanced upon the abode of my humble collection of odds and ends dedicated to the motion picture Shrek and its issue. If thou beist so inclined, prithee feel at liberté to peruse the offerings herein.
My attempt at a Shrek fanfiction. It takes place in the time lag between Fiona's wedding to Farquaad and her wedding to Shrek. It attempts to tie some loose ends and plug some gaps with my own speculations along the way. (Many thanks go to Lunchpail, who has graciously provided much useful and encouraging feedback as the story has progressed.)

Thank you.
My second Shrek fanfiction. It takes place shortly after the events of Shrek 2. The title pretty much sums up the premise. As before, much gratitude to Lunchpail, who again provided feedback and who, along with the talented efforts of Kelli Weber, were gracious enough to provide the illustration of Shrek's parents that you see below. Also a big thank you to all those who have taken the time to read and review or drop me a note about the story.

My third Shrek fanfiction. Fiona's adventures during the day in Shrek 2 that she awakened as a human. Many, many thanks to TrudiRose for her invaluable assistance with proofing and suggestions as the story has evolved. I strongly recommend her own excellent stories as collected at Fanfiction.Net.

A short story set in the timeline of Shrek the Third during Fiona's third trimester carrying the triplets. Again, thanks to TrudiRose for her invaluable assistance with proofing and feedback.

As the title implies, this work concentrates on incidents leading up to the scenario that Shrek encounters in Shrek Forever After in an alternate reality where Shrek was never born.

This is a little one-shot story, posited in Shrek's swamp the evening after the birthday party depicted in the film Shrek Forever After.

I think one of the things that surprised people about the first film was how heartfelt it was, and how moved people were by it at the end. That's a very essential and imperative ingredient in the DNA of Shrek. ~ Jeffrey Katzenberg I went to [see the original Shrek] and I was absolutely captivated. I thought it was wonderfully funny and very, very touching. And above all else, so intelligent, so smart. So when they said, "Be in it", I thought, "Well, this is the one to be in." ~ John Cleese I think it's mostly about accepting who you are and being okay with who you are, rather than looking for acceptance from everyone else. It's really, truly what you possess inside. If you love yourself for who you are and you love the person that you're with for who they are, truly inside, then that's happiness. ~ Cameron Diaz Be who you are and say how you feel, because those that mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind. ~ Dr. Seuss Let every fart count as a peal of thunder for liberty. Let every fart remind the nation of how much it has let pass out of its control. So fart, and if you must, fart often. But always fart without apology. Fart for freedom, fart for liberty ... and fart proudly! ~ Benjamin Franklin I think I feel a little differently than other people do. For some reason I've never felt grown up. ~ William Steig And From Some Shrek 2 Reviewers ...For all the clever in-jokes and the warped visual gags, this is primarily a lovely romance about two extremely likeable characters with beautiful hearts. ~ Richard Roeper Once again the main theme stresses inner virtue over surface beauty, but the script handles it with more satire. This Fairy Godmother's version of "Bibbity Bobbity Boo" celebrates consumerism and supermodel perfection. When Fiona says she is happy with what she has, Fairy Godmother doesn't know how to respond. ~ Jeffrey Westhoff, Rottentomatoes.com Messages for young viewers remain the same: Affections matter more than appearance, and we can never be happy (or make anyone else happy) by suppressing our personalities or forcing others to change. Kids need to hear those things, and both "Shreks" make them clear but not cloying. ~ Lawrence Toppman, Charlotte Observer The Fairy Godmother comes off as a high-priced agent, promising Fiona the life of her dreams via potions, spells, and makeovers. L.A., in fact, seems a richer target for the franchise's satire given the emphasis both stories place on the dangers of looking only skin deep. ~ David Thomas, filmcritic.com But there's also a genuine love story here, a poignant one at that, along with a gentle reminder of the first film's message that good looks really are only skin deep. ~ Peter Howell, Toronto Star Directors Andrew Adamson, Kelly Asbury, and Conrad Vernon keep the story humming along nicely without losing the central point that Shrek and Fiona's happiness has nothing to do with external beauty and everything to do with their basic love for each other and their delight in being in their own skin. The screenplay by Andrew Adamson, Joe Stillman, J. David Stem and David N. Weiss couldn't be more topical given the country's obsession with cosmetic surgery makeovers and other extreme transformations of bodies and homes. ~ Frederic & Mary Ann Brussat, Spirituality & Health What is amazing about this Shrek is that without sacrificing its caustic sense of humor, the film directs it against its characters own foibles, against the annoyances and eccentricities of family, against the difficulty of loving relationships and clinging friendships. Shrek and Fiona, crabbed and jealous and moody as they often are, are also playful and doting and willing to compromise. ~ Nicholas K. Davis, Nick's Flick Picks Celebrity culture has polluted popular imaginations with poor definitions of beauty. On "reality" TV, women and men give up their natural appearances for artificial beauty in order to gain acceptance and temporary happiness. ... These shows only reinforce the insecurities of viewers who have been sold a lie. They tell us that we have to change our exterior in order to be truly satisfied. The Shrek movies remind us that it is not our appearance that needs changing, but our hearts. ~ Jeffrey Overstreet, ChristianityToday.com In the end, though, Shrek 2 not only recaptures the heart of the first film, it goes a bit further. One important supporting character who starts out unsympathetic not only goes on to something like nobility, selflessly sacrificing his own good for that of one he loves, he also becomes a figure of some pathos and tragedy. ... And I enjoy the relationship of Shrek and Fiona more than that of the leads in many a romantic comedy. ~ Steven D. Greydanus, Decent Films Guide |
