The Boyce family settled in the area of Lynchburg Twp. and Mt. Cleo Twp. of
Sumter Dist/Sumter County. Sumter County was formed from Sumter District in
1865. This area was transfered to Lee County in 1902. The townships retained
their original names.
Mary appears separated from her spouse Wm. either for personal, financal, or
employment reasons. However, according to future census Wm. and Mary are never
found in the same home. Mary remains in Sumter to work as a midwife, with her
her daughter Abagail working as a seamstress.
