One morning, an author awoke from a particularly vivid dream of a beautiful, sparkling vampire and a human girl in a meadow. Despite the difficulties of such a pairing, they were in love. Once awake, the author sat down and wrote her dream out, and then expanded on it; detailing the characters' lives up to the scene in the meadow and afterwards. When she finished, she was surprised she had written a book that, when published, went on to become a world-wide phenomenon spawning three sequels. The author was Stephanie Meyer, and the book, Twilight.

Twilight became an instant success, revitalising the vampire genre and breeding seemingly equal numbers of Twilighters and Twi-haters. The four books chronicle the love story of Edward and Bella, the vampire and his human love; and follow them through trials to their happily ever after. A supernatural love story that appeals to teenagers and adults alike, now being made into movies starring Robert Pattinson (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), Kristen Stewart (Into the Wild), and Taylor Lautner (The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl)
