Steve & Kayla #2 August 20 - October 28, 1986: 8 hour original edit
Steve finds Hope moaning in pain on the docks and gets her to the hospital. He sits by her side after she has a miscarriage and Bo is in Europe. Steve saves Kayla when an addict attacks her at the clinic and stabs her. He gently helps remove her blouse so he can treat her wound as she walks him through treatment. When Britta is found murdered, Steve is the #1 suspect. He is arrested and the DA seems out to get him. The friendship scenes between Hope and Steve on this edit are extra special, she believes in him and believes he is innocent. He was there for her when she lost the baby, and she believes he is innocent of Britta’s murder as she knows he loved her and would not have killed her.

Once released, the gang go to Stockholm, Roman is arrested for Lana’s murder. Steve is shot during their escape, and Kayla arrives to nurse him. Roman identifies Orpheus from a photo they pull off a surveillance camera. Steve grieves Britta’s death as he and Kayla grow closer. Max makes a breakthrough and actually speaks thanks to Steve’s pushing. Orpheus is watching Steve, and his interactions. Kayla has a fantasy of kissing Steve. Kayla creates a romantic dinner for Steve, she is wearing a formal black dress. Steve shows up at her door carrying beautiful yellow roses. Bo stops him and discourages him about dating Kayla, he asks him to leave his sister alone. Steve lays the the flowers on her doorstep and leaves. She is heartbroken to find the flowers and realizes he has stood her up. Steve leaves the Cheatin’ Heart with a hooker and Kayla sees them kissing on the docks. Steve & Kayla #3 October 28 - December 25, 1986: 8 hour original edit
On this edit, Steve stops by the clinic to apologize to Kayla for standing her up, but she doesn’t want to have anything to do with him. Then the hooker that she saw Steve with, says he gave her money and didn’t even want anything in return. Kayla brings him a yellow rose and apologizes. Kayla learns that Bo told Steve to stay away from her. Orpheus has kidnapped Kayla. Roman impersonates Steve complete with eye patch, so Steve can sneak aboard the yacht and rescue Kayla. Roman remembers a hidden map and he and Steve head to Stockholm, followed by Kayla & Hope. Roman remembers where he hid the bonds. He and Steve use street worker disguise to get into the storm drain. Kayla follows Steve into the tunnel, Orpheus traps them in there and turns on the water to drown them. Adrienne shuts off the water and saves them. Steve & Kayla help Roman rescue Marlena from Orpheus.

Steve & Kayla’s second fantasy kiss, and their first real kiss followed by several others. Their relationship takes a turn in Stockholm as he checks his sarcastic snarky attitude and is genuine with her. Steve agrees to smuggle emeralds back to US, but changes his mind and sews them into the lining of his leather jacket. Kayla grabs it by mistake and puts it in her carry on. Steve is held by customs officers, and Kayla finds the emeralds and hides them just before they take her to be searched. Steve is stabbed when he doesn’t turn over the emeralds and Kayla realizes he had backed out of the deal. Kayla is no longer as nervous around him but her confidence and wanting to be with him is making HIM nervous, LOL! She starts to chase him and tries to tear down his walls. Some very cute and flirty scenes. The Bradys are devastated when Marlena is killed by Orpheus and Steve comforts Kayla. He hurts her though when he refuses to go to Christmas at her parent’s house, and pleads he just isn’t ready. Steve & Kayla #4 December 25, 1986 - March 2, 1987: 8 hour original edit
This edit begins with a Merry Brady Christmas, Steve gives Kayla a beautiful necklace. Kayla invites Steve to a black tie New Year’s Eve party, but they wind up staying in and almost make love (this happens several times on this edit, that they are about to make love and are interrupted). Kayla reads the surveillance documents that were sent to her and she realizes Steve was her stalker. Kayla soon forgives him and continues to push Steve to open up and talk to her and be honest. He is upset when the mystery girl (Adrienne) who has been following him begins volunteering at the clinic and then is staying at Kayla’s place. Adrienne makes dinner for them and when her sleeve catches fire, he rescues her but it triggers flashbacks of the fire he set at the age of five to try kill his abusive father and protect his mother and baby brother but he does not tell Kayla about his past. Kayla is upset to see Steve playing pool after he has cancelled a romantic evening they had planned. Joannie tells Kayla about Steve helping her the young mother pay her rent by hustling pool, and Kayla realizes he had a very good reason for breaking their date.

Kayla drinks out of Adrienne’s flask and gets drunk, and Steve takes her home. She is feeling very frisky but falls asleep on him. Adrienne finally tells Steve that she is his sister but he doesn’t believe her until she tells him a childhood story. He still does not want anything to do with her, and calls her a stranger. Kayla notices Adrienne has a bracelet that matches her necklace and Adrienne tells her it was her mother’s, Kayla figures out that she is his sister. Steve invites her to the Centennial Celebration (Lars & Melissa dance). Adrienne’s mother shows up at the clinic beaten and collapses into her arms. Steve shows up at the hospital to see his mother after she gets out of surgery and sees his mother for the first time since he was 5 and she gave him away. His abusive father shows up demanding Jo and Adrienne go home with him. Jo decides to go with him to protect her children. Adrienne tells Steve that Jo is planning on leaving with him. He meets at her place with a plan to stop his mother from leaving with Duke. They fight and he winds up pulling a gun on him, but Kayla steps in front of Duke so Steve can’t kill him. Jo finally agrees to go to a battered woman’s shelter and leave Duke. Duke soon shows up at the clinic and finds out which shelter she is in and calls her and threatens Adrienne if she doesn’t come to the clinic. When she does, he beats her. Steve & Kayla #5 March 3 - May 15, 1987: 8 hour original edit
This edit starts off with very sweet moments between Steve and Kayla. Their interlude of romance is soon interrupted when Steve rushes to find Adrienne after their father has attacked her. She has killed Duke, and Steve takes the blame to protect his traumatized sister. Kayla tries to get Adrienne help to remember and Steve pushes her away, desperate to protect his sister from remembering she killed their father. After he has broken up with her, they premiere the classic “The Lady In Red” fantasy (he in a tux and her in a gorgeous red dress). Adrienne remembers she shot Duke and rushes into Steve’s sentencing and is able to get all the charges dropped! S&K meet Bo & Hope down on the pier and say their goodbyes as they set sail for their trip around the world.

Jack arrives (an old friend of Kayla’s). Steve continues to keep her at a distance thinking Jack is a better fit for her, yet he is jealous as he watches her longingly. Jack offers Steve a job helping him find housing for the poor displaced by the redevelopment project. Kayla is asked to be his nurse as he is fighting Hodgekin’s Disease and this brings her and Steve into constant contact. S&K find a beaten Diana and Kayla gives her a hideout at her place. (Note: Stephen Nichols first scenes with Genie Francis!) S&K are trapped in an explosion at Mike’s lab. As Steve worries about an injured and delirious Kayla, as she loses consciousness a desperate Steve tells her how much he loves her. Their friends and family figure out they are missing and when Kayla’s car is found, they start digging to search for them. They are rescued! Steve is set up to assassinate Senator Deveraux. Steve & Kayla #6 May 15 - July 21, 1987: 8 hour original edit Steve is set up to shoot Senator Deveraux, and goes on the run. Another great fantasy shot on the boat rented for B&H’s departure. Kayla and Steve meet up at the barn and she insists on staying with him. Soon they board a train and Steve changes into his cowboy outfit and she in her saloon girl dress. When Roman and Daniel’s corner them on the train, Steve pretends to hold Kayla hostage and threatens to shoot her. They steal a small plane, and crash it into the side of a mountain. Steve rescues her from a bear, and she saves his life when he falls off the side of a cliff and she pulls him to safety. Cute scenes as teases her about her Girl Scout Lean-To but soon has to ask for shelter when it rains. They have lots of romantic time alone together while on the run, things are getting hot in the hot springs pool but are interrupted when a helicopter approaches. She then saves his life again when he is bitten by a poisonous snake.

They make it to a honeymoon cabin and really enjoy some romantic time alone together and almost make love, but are interrupted by gun shots! Justin and Adrienne arrive, Justin buys a car and the gang head to LA for university location scenes as they investigate Simon Hopkins. They find a link between Simon and Kava Chemicals in Salem and decide to return home. Steve puts the threesome on a bus, and he heads to the orphanage where Jo left him. Roman believes Kayla that Daniels is working with Simon but needs more evidence. Roman arrests Steve and Kayla is furious, but he tells them he is setting Daniel’s up so he has to believe Roman is working with him and doesn’t believe Kayla. Roman then arranges with Justin to help Steve escape police custody, as he is a sitting duck in custody. The foursome investigate Kava Chemicals, Steve surprises Kayla by showing up at Kim’s costume party so they can dance and spend time together. We learn that Simon’s boss is Victor and that Diana owns Kava Chemicals. But most importantly, Steve & Kayla finally make love for the first (and second) time!! Steve & Kayla #7 July 22 - September 14, 1987: 8 Hour Original Edit Jack is about to propose to Kayla and Jo recognizes the ring as the one she gave her baby son when she gave him up for adoption. Steve sees it and recognizes that the ring matches Jo’s necklace and figures out that Jack is his baby brother, Billy. Just as Steve is about to propose, Kayla gets a call that Jack is in the hospital as he is out of remission. Jack tells Kayla that he will get better in order to have a future with her. A worried Steve asks a shocked Kayla to do whatever she has to for him to get better. (MB does an amazing job of portraying Kayla’s fear, confusion, not understanding why Steve is pushing her towards Jack). He tries to push her away, when she questions him, he tells her he was just using her. She slaps him, and cries in heartbreak.

Steve can’t stand hurting her, holds her face and kisses her, and they sleep together one last time. Kayla declares that she knows he was going to propose. He claims he changed his mind and can’t be tied down. Later he deliberately kisses a waitress in front of Kayla. Steve agrees to work undercover with Shane and the ISA. He changes his testimony in Daniel’s hearing (the guy that stalked and tried to kill them). Kayla is shocked and disappointed. Kayla tells Steve when Jack proposes, she day dreams that Steve proposes to her and tells her that he loves her (oh so sweet!). Kayla accepts Jack’s proposal and shows Steve her engagement ring. Steve & Kayla #8 September 16 - December 30, 1987: 8 hour original edit
On Kayla’s wedding day to Jack, Steve shows up and is about to stop the wedding. Jo stops him and reminds him that this will save Jack’s life. Kayla marries Jack, but he is unable to make love to her. Harper is poisoning Kayla and she begins feeling dizzy and tired. Jack takes her on a honeymoon and they are off screen for a bit. We see Kayla briefly as she lays in bed feeling sick, dreaming of Steve arriving to save her. She gives Melissa a letter to give to Steve since she is too sick to travel to Greece for Justin & Adrienne’s wedding. Steve walks her down the aisle and he catches her garter.

When Steve gets home, he tries to see Kayla as he is worried since Melissa tells him how sick she has been. Harper stops him from seeing her when he shows up. Caroline then tells him that none of the Brady’s have seen Kayla since she returned from her honeymoon. He calls Melissa wanting to know how Kayla is and she tells him that she is very sick and they are taking her to a private hospital that night. He is shocked when she admits she hasn’t seen her since before she left for Greece. She comments that Kayla’s meds worked great on her trip. Steve realizes she wasn’t taking them as she had dropped them and he picked them up later. He rushes to get Gabrielle to have the ISA analyze the pills and is horrified when she tells him it is POISON! He races to the Deveraux’s and climbs up to the balcony to find Kayla. She is having a great dream of wonderful S&K moments over the years. He swoops in and carries her out! This storyline allows a very pregnant MB some time off and explains her absence while Steve continues to have storyline (though he takes a back burner for the month or so she is off). Matthew starts as Jack on Oct 30th. Since she wasn’t on the S&K #8B all that much, I decided to go ahead and add in a complimentary S&K #8C which includes Steve her back to health. He finally tells her that Jack is Billy. When Jack finds her, she goes back with him as Steve tells her they have to find out who is trying to kill her. Note: This wedding is LONG, I only added a few minutes of the ceremony as Steve is shown in the crowd. Steve & Kayla #9 December 30, 1987 - February 9, 1988: 8 hour original edit
Melissa is arrested for poisoning Kayla, though she insists she is innocent. After Jack wins the election, a seedy photographer takes pictures of Steve & Kayla kissing. He later shows them to Jack. He is furious and later throws the pictures in Kayla’s face, and forces himself on her. Jack asks Victor for a favor, later that night Steve is jumped by several goons and beaten up pretty badly. Kayla finds him but doesn’t want him to know that Jack attacked her. He insists on them going to Jack now that he has won the election, and he tells Jack about him and Kayla being in love and that Kayla wants a divorce. Jack gets her alone and threatens her again that she obviously didn’t get the message. He demands she continue acting as his loving wife and threatens Steve if she doesn’t. She later begs Steve for them to leave town. They go to a cabin in a beautiful woods. He asks her to marry him and they say their own vows to each other, and she declares she is Mrs. Steven Johnson. Jack’s goon finds them, knocks Steve out and Jack threatens her into returning to Salem with him. Once back at the loft, he locks her in her room, changes the locks on the loft door so it is locked from the inside and he has the only key, and he has a guard placed at the door. He demands that she play the loving wife at his inauguration. Afterwards, Steve finds Kayla on the loft and when Jack finds them together, a fight breaks out between Jack and Steve. Jack falls off the roof during the fight, and injuries his one good kidney. He needs a donor and Steve offers to donate a kidney to save Jack’s life. Jack is really puzzled why Steve would do this but eventually agrees. Steve crashes during the surgery and goes into a coma. While in the coma, he has a vision of a very well dressed, well groomed Steve who talks to him about his life as Steve has lost the will to live believing everyone would be better off without him. This is a version of Steve’s Wonderful Life with visions of people he has helped in the past, and then a glorious future with Kayla is unfolded with a wedding, children, and growing old together. Finally Steve decides he wants to live, and comes out of the coma. Soon he is ready to go home from the hospital and start his new life with Kayla. Click here to read the full edit description.

Steve & Kayla #10 February 29 - May 19, 1988: 8 hours
After Steve has been released from the hospital, they return home to live at the loft together. Kayla is having difficulty coping and pushes Steve away. Desperate to get his “Sweetness” back, he suggests counseling. Kayla gets in touch with her anger towards Steve for his part in all of this. For him asking Kayla to forgive Jack when he starts rejecting the kidney. Kayla goes to counseling and then decides she has to press charges and breaks Roman’s heart when she has to tell him she was raped. Abe arrests Jack himself and he is taken down to the station to be booked and fingerprinted. Jack harasses and threatens Kayla and Steve gets fed up, realizing that Billy is gone, and Jack is a jerk and not the Billy he once knew. The judge finds enough evidence to hold Jack over for trial, and he pleads out to assault. Kayla files for divorce and even though Jack fights it, she is free and happy for the first time. Sweet romantic moments as they pick out a star to be their star, Steve makes her a romantic dinner and she makes the moves on him for the first time since she was attacked. They are both ready for a new beginning together.

Marcus gets Steve to sing, “I Love You Baby” to a girl Marcus wants to hit on at the “Cheatin’ Heart”. This is a carefree singing and dancing Steve we have never seen before. As Steve and Kayla have opened a new community center, Steve is headed to Washington for funding. Their new tarot reading friend, Monty, predicts that Steve shouldn’t get on the plane and tries to stop him. Kayla learns the plane has crashed and thinks she has lost Steve forever. She is beyond relieved to find he never made the flight. Steve runs into problems with the local gang, the Sting Rays and they take him hostage by gunpoint. Emilio and his brother, Raul are two of the gang members. When things intensify, Roman shoots and Raul is killed. Steve takes his brother, Emilio, under his wing. Soon his sister April arrive, and turns out they are all Monty’s children. Steve gets Monty to sober up and get involved in the center. Jack continues to hassle them and do everything he can to ruin their plans for the center from staging a boycott/protest, and then he pays Emilio to stage a fight. When Jack approaches Emilio again, Monty overhears and drags him to Steve to tell him what he had done. They have an opening gala benefit for the center, and Victor is shot. Steve & Kayla #11 May 19 - July 13, 1988: 8 hours
Lots of action on this edit! Riverfront Knifer attacks Kayla twice, explosion causes her deafness, surgery, and wedding plans! Vindictive Jack angles to get the funding for the Community Center stopped and is successful in his sabotage. The knifer attacks Kayla in her building’s laundry room. As she fights him off, she rips the hood of his head and is shocked to learn who the Riverfront Knifer is. A fire is started and the room explodes and Kayla is buried in debris. Steve hears the boom and rushes to her rescue. She is taken to the hospital and is in a coma. When Kayla wakes up, she is unable to hear or to speak. She pushes Steve away, as she is traumatized and confused. Canby overhears Steve and Adrienne talking about Billy and tells Jack. He pumps Adrienne for info and she spills everything she knows, including the name of the orphanage in LA.

Jack is disturbed by Kayla’s injuries and Steve guilts Jack over everything he has done to hurt her. Jack gets the Community Center funding re-instated on his recommendation. Melissa tells Steve about Jack searching for Billy. When Jo finds out, she begs Steve to go to to California and figure out a way that Jack will never learn he is Billy. Kayla needs time alone and Kim offers to stay with her and teaches her sign language while Steve is gone. When he arrives back in Salem, he sees Jack’s PI delivering Billy’s fake adoption papers to Jack. Steve switched the papers before the PI got there. Jack suspects the papers are faked and breaks into Steve’s and finds his own baby picture among Steve’s things. Melissa warns Steve that she is going to tell a confused Jack the truth. Steve breaks into her place and finds the adoption papers. Just as Melissa & Jack arrive back at her place, he hears them and throws the documents into the fire. Jack is able to retrieve them and learn he is Billy Johnson!

He goes to Jo and she tells him that it is true that he is her son. She shows him the necklace that matches the ring his mother gave him, her ring as Steve & Kayla watch. Shane & Kim find a gold button from the Knifer’s glove and Abe has traced it to a pair that Jack bought. He is brought in for questioning and they learn who the knifer is. Steve calls to get a hold of Kim and Kayla but Kim isn’t answering the phone and Steve & Shane race to the loft. Meanwhile, the masked knifer has broken in and taken both of the ladies captive and dragged them up to the roof and tied them up. He plans on killing them both. He lets Kim loose so she can sign to Kayla her fate. As he is about to throw Kayla off the roof, Kimberly tries to body tackle him but he knocks her across the roof. But this delay gives Steve and Shane time to get to the roof and overpower him and save the day.

Down at the PD, Jack accuses Steve of lying and setting this up. Steve arranges Jack to overhear as he confronts the knifer as Jack listens to the confession. He is devastated to learn the identify of the knifer and find out who has been trying to kill Kayla. Jack decides to give Kayla an uncontested divorce but she still won’t agree to marry Steve while she is deaf. When Kayla is ready to have the operation, Jack has arranged for the best surgeon from the west coast to fly in to perform it. When Steve overhears Jack telling Angelica, he gets chocked up that Jack would do something so nice. Kayla finally has the operation and sees Angel Steve while she is unconscious. He shows her a montage of wonderful memories of the two years she has spent with Steve and she realizes how much she loves him, and it doesn’t matter if she is deaf. When she wakes up after a successful surgery, she tells Steve she will marry him though she still can’t speak or hear yet. They plan on having a simple ceremony with friends and family next week! Steve & Kayla #12 The Wedding! July 13 - October 7, 1988: 8 hour original edit
Kayla and Steve plan their wedding though Steve has a surprise for his beautiful bride. He remembered her childhood fantasy of getting married on a boat and comes through on his promise to make all of her dreams come true. The guys throw him a surprise Bachelor Party, while Kayla has a surprise Bridal Shower at Blondie’s, which the guys crash later on. The night before their wedding as they enjoy a romantic evening alone together, Kayla begins having ringing in her ears and pain. Mike rushes over and tells them she is getting her hearing back! They have a beautiful wedding, and Kayla’s hearing and her speech return just in time to say her vows! They enjoy a romantic ship board reception with twinkly lights, music, laughter and dancing. Soon Steve surprises her with a gondola ride as they leave for their honeymoon aboard a private jet and have a very romantic time together in their private bedroom aboard.

They honeymoon in Asia with the most gorgeous red silk sheets in their suite, where they spend quite a bit of time (LOL). When they finally leave their room, they find Benji. He is a lost and alone deaf child, who is scared. Roman pulls some strings so they are able to bring him back to Salem with them until his family is found. Interesting scenes when the press smears that Jack is the son of a serial killer, he decides to embrace his blue collar roots and claim his identity as a Johnson. He trots out Jo at a press conference to distance himself from Harper. Steve sees the interview and is livid as he knows Jack is just using Jo. Benji’s mother appears to be reunited with her son but she is murdered before she can. Benji’s father is a dangerous man and kidnaps Benji. Kayla figures out where he was taken and they rescue the boy and Steve and Kayla take him to the monastery to hide out. Steve & Kayla get a lead and leave Benji hidden with the monks and they take a boat ride which turns into yet another romantic evening. Steve & Kayla #13 October 7, 1988 - February 8, 1989: 12 hour original edit
Kayla is held hostage twice on the first dvd alone! Jo tells Steve she overheard Harper is going to escape from jail. She heard Victor and Jack talking at Blondie’s. Emilio is the driver of the getaway car. Harper is shot in the process and Emilio goes to the clinic and brings Kayla to help, though of course she has no idea who she is being asked to care for. Emilio drops a note at the clinic with the name of the airfield he is taking her to as a clue for Steve to follow. The goons threaten Kayla and Emilio’s lives to help Harper or else. Jack is listening in and goon tells him that they will both be killed to eliminate any witnesses. Jack pleads for her life to no avail. Steve has followed Emilio’s clue and the heroes arrive to save the day. Very soon, Carrie is kidnapped by Stefano at the Halloween party. Stefano’s note says he will trade Carrie for Benji (his son). Steve & Kayla refuse to trade the boy.

Steve takes Benji up to a cabin to protect him. Kayla trusts Shane and tells him where they are, only it isn’t Shane but his evil twin Drew (who is is working with Stefano). Stefano’s men take Benji and hold Steve captive. Benji escapes and tells Kayla where Steve is being held. Kayla, Marcus arrive to rescue Steve just before he is drowned in Drew’s magic trick (trunk in tank of water with Steve inside!). Stefano has kidnapped Kimberly, Roman, Diana, and soon grabs Kayla, and then Steve. He creates a sort of twisted Thanksgiving DiMera style. This edit also includes a traditional Brady Christmas, ”Patchy Clause" gives Kayla her Christmas present. and New Year’s Eve as Kayla tells Steve she is ready to have a baby! Steve is shocked when Abe tells him Kayla has been arrested! Her and Alice trespassed while investigating a water poisoning situation that is causing a rash in the high school kids, like Carrie. Steve & Kayla #14 October 7, 1988 - February 8, 1989: 8 hour original edit
There is something very sweet about this edit, Steve and Kayla spend a lot of alone time together. They are so very happy together and there are many scenes of them making love, laying in bed talking, and snuggling. The closeness between them and the connection is so tangible, the bond these two share. Jack goes to Kayla for help after he is stabbed. Caroline has a heart attack, and Steve steps up to run the Fish Market while she is in the hospital and the jam sessions begin. After she recovers they offer Steve half the store in a partnership. Shane tells Andrew a bedtime Fairytale (acted out by most of the cast) as Steven Hood and his merry band attempt to rescue the fair maiden Eve. This was just fun and something different, the actors are obviously having a blast doing it. Nick gives Steve a house in the country. They find an old diary, and clothes in an antique chest in the attic. Kayla begins reading Emily’s diary and the saga of Gideon and Emily is told. After their story concludes over several episodes, Steve and Kayla head to the hospital. Nick has snuck out to make his escape after Eve goes into surgery. Shane asks Steve and Kayla to find him after Eddie takes Eve hostage and threatens to kill her if Nick doesn’t show up and pay him. They find him at the airport and he goes into the hostage situation when he arrives at the hospital. Steve, Shane, Roman go in guns blazing and Eddie is shot, and he shoots Marcus in the process.
