William enlisted at Camp Lee, Gainesville, Fl., 6 May 1862, as Private, by Lt.
June, in Company F, 7th Florida Infantry, commanded by Capt. William L. Stone.
William was 19 at the time. At the Battle of Decatur, 22 July 1864, while
serving with General Hood's forces in the Army of Tennessee near Atlanta,
William was wounded. He suffered from pain of the wound through his life.
William surrendered near Morse Creek in S.C. in April 1865, with Company F, 7th
Florida Infantry, under the command of Gen. Johnston. There were very few men
in the company.
William homesteaded 109.26 acres in Volusia County, 15 Oct 1875, application
#4589. He bought 48 acres in St. Johns County from Stephen M. and Charlotte E.
Raulerson, 5 April 1879.
William began disposing of his land in St. Johns county in 1885 by sale, to
George Creely on 25 April 1885, Bennett Ferrill on 7 Nov 1885, W.L. Waldron on
1 March 1886, James Bryant on 12 Jun 1886, Geonard Gill on 12 June 1886, Wiley
Melton on 2 March 1888, and to Henry S. Motes on 10 May 1888.
William's nephew, Burt Bryan Raulerson, son of Robert Rowan Raulerson, moved to
Boca Raton in 1902 among the first settlers there. William ahd his family
followed him in 1911. William operated a Logging Camp there, supplying railroad
ties for the Florida East Coast Railroad.
In Dade County, 16 July 1907, William applied for Civil War Pension. He gave
his address as Larkins, Florida. Pension #5411, approved 28 Dec 1907, paid from
22 Aug 1907, for $120 per year.
On 28 November 1911, Elizabeth Raulerson of Boca Raton, Palm Beach, made
Widow's Pension Claim. Pension #6183 was approved 28 Jan 1912, paid from 7 Nov
1911 at $120 per year.
