Born in North Carolina, Appointed to U.S. Naval Academy from Mississippi, 1851,
graduate 1855. Served as Ensign U.S. Frigate Potomac one year, then U.S. Steam
Frigate Wabash. Served two years in the Gulf Squadron. Formerly Lieutenant, U.S.
Navy. Resigned his commission when Mississippe seceded from the Union.
Returning to New York, was detained at the Naval Yard, then sent to Fort
Lafayette, N.Y., as political prisoner along with members of the Maryland
Legislature. All were then sent to Fort Warren, then to Fortress Monroe and
imprisoned on the Sloop Cumberland. Paroled and exchanged in the fall of 1861.
Went to Richmond, where he was commissioned in the Confederate Navy, Lieutenant,
30 Dec 1861. Promoted to First Lieutenant, 23 Oct 1862, First Lieutenant
Provisional Navy, 2 Jun 1864, Captain 6 Jan 1864.
Served with: C.S.S. Livingston, Mississippi River Defenses, 1862; Jackson
Station, 1862. C.S.S. Georgia, Savannah Squadron, 1862-1863; C.S. Steamers
Tuscaloosa and Baltic, Mobile Squadron, 1863. C.S.S. Chattahoochee, 1863.
On C.S. steamers Georgia, Savannah, and Sampson, and commanded C.S.S. Isondiga,
Savannah Squadron, 1863-64. C.S.S. Richmond, James River Squadron, 1865;
Detached and ordered to Mobile, but failed to reach there before surrender.
After the War, Hamilton returned to Mississippi, where he worked as a traveling
agent in Mississippi, then was a book keeper. Later he was self employed in the
lumber trade. Finally he became connected to the Turner Real Estate Company,
and became the secretary.

as her daughter. Rebecca E. Jones and her sister Mary A. Andrews were give
wearing appearal to share equally. Rebecca and Mary, along with son Isaiah D.
Hart were given household and kitchen furniture with beds and bed clothing to
share equally. Rebecca E. Jones or John M. Richard were owed a debt from
William Hart late husband of Elizabeth S. Hart, of sixty three dollars, to be
paid out of the remaining property. The balance of the property was divided:
