Marple Icelene DeGonia Marple Icelene DeGonia, nee Perkins, was born Thursday May 29, 1924, at Dillard, Missouri, a daughter of the late William J. Parkins and Cary Belle Parkins (nee Pyatt). She entered eternal rest Sunday August 26, 2000, at the Beverly Healthcare, Sullivan, Missouri, at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 29 days. On September 14, 1947, at Keysville, Missouri, she was united in marriage to George DeGonia. One son, James and one daughter, Susan were born to this union. George preceded her in death as did two brothers, Delbert and Gilbert Parkins and three sisters, Marie, Ollie and Bessie Parkins. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted daughter, Susan Gargus, her loving son, James DeGonia and wife Judy, all of Bourbon, Missouri; eight grandchildren, two great-grandsons and six great-granddaughters. Sisters-in-law Allean and husband Perry Hanks, and Marie and husband Richard Brooks, all of Steelville, Missouri; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Marple Icelene DeGonia (nee Parkins) lay in state 6-9 p.m. Tuesday August 29, 2000, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Wednesday August 30, 2000, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. A.F. Roberdes officiating. Committal prayers and interment were in Old Dillard Cemetery, Dillard, Missouri. Pallbearers were James DeGonia II, Jason DeGonia, Joshua DeGonia, Donnie Gargus, Charles Neal II, and Danny Parkins. Gary Dean Moses Gary Dean Moses was born November 23, 1965, at St. Louis, Mo., a son of Auzzie and Nina (Wood) Moses; and died Thursday, October 19, 2000, at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center, Sullivan, Mo. at the age of 34 years, 10 months and 26 days. He served his country in the United States Army National Guard of Missouri, and received an honorable discharge June 1, 1983. Among those he leaves to mourn his death are his wife Kim Moses of the home in Steelville, Mo.; his parents, Auzzie and Nina Moses also of Steelville, Mo.; two sons, Brandon Moses and Alex Moses, and one daughter, Brittany Moses of Park Hills, Mo., and four step-children, Jesse Moritz, Brian Moritz, Lorene and Katrina Pyatt-Moses of the home. Two brothers, Jeff Moses and wife Vickie of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Jerry Moses and wife Joelle of Boise, Idaho; two sisters, Vickie and husband Bill White of Salem, Mo., Debbie Moses and friend Misty Hill, both of Pacific, Mo. Mother-in-law Nelda Pyatt of Steelville, Mo.; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law Connie and Daniel Carbaugh of Steelville, Mo. and Debi and Jim Rieger of Barnhart, Mo.; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Martha Jane Pyatt Martha Jane Pyatt nee Harris was born Friday, September 4, 1908, at Cherryville, Mo., a daughter of the late John Thomas Harris and Vianna Harris (nee Tinker). She entered eternal rest Sunday, February 4, 2001, in the Crawford County Health Care, Cuba, Mo. at the age of 92 years and 5 months. She was united in marriage to William Otto Pyatt. Five sons and three daughters were born to this union. William preceded her in death as did one son, Troy William Pyatt; one grandson, Steve Anderson; and one son-in-law, Harold Cooper; one brother, Willie Harris; and two sisters, Dorothy Anderson and Lillie Seward. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are four sons and three daughters, Marie Cooper of South Roxana, Illinois, Erma and husband Ray Anderson of Chandler, Oklahoma, Leo Pyatt and wife Geneva of Bourbon, Mo., Claud Pyatt and wife Mary of Cuba, Mo., Ken Pyatt and wife Helen of Owensville, Mo., Mary and husband Lester McBenge of Steelville, Mo., and Garland Pyatt of Cuba, Mo. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Noah and Juanita Pyatt of Cherryville, Mo., Nellie and Homer Galt of California; twenty-four grandchildren; sixty great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She lived her entire life in the Crawford County area. She attended the Center Ridge Church and enjoyed going to church and living for God. She lived her flowers and in her earlier years she enjoyed making quilts. She also loved reading her Bible and talking to her friend, Jesus. God was her strength. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2001, at the Center Ridge Pentecostal Church, Cherryville, Mo. with Pastor Harrison Brown officiating and Rev. Bob Coleman assisting. Musical selections were provided by vocalist Carol and Bob Coleman and pianist Shirley Brown. Committal prayers and interment were in Martin Cemetery, Cherryville, Mo. Honoring their grandmother as pallbearers were Gary Anderson, Dennis Cooper, Roy Cooper, Michael Koprivica, Randy Pyatt and Rick Pyatt. Hershel Ernest Harris Hershel Ernest Harris was born in Crawford County, Mo., Sunday, September 18, 1932, a son of the late William and Edna (Pyatt) Harris. He departed this life Saturday, February 17, 22001, at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, Mo., at the age of 68 years, 4 months and 30 days. Hershel served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955. Franklin Leo Ware Franklin Leo Ware was born Monday, August 11, 1919, at Cuba, Mo., a son of the late Robert Earl Ware and Margaret "Maggie" (Eliston) Ware. He departed this life Monday, April 2, 2001, at his home on White River Road, Cherryville, Mo., at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 22 days. On April 1, 1942, at Steelville, Mo., Franklin was united in marriage to Fannie Marie Lea, daughter of Eddie and Pearl (Collier) Lea. They have been blessed with five sons and one daughter. The day before his death was their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, James Ware and wife Hester and two sisters, Alice Ware (at age two years) and Eva and husband Herb Stewart, sisters-in-law Clio Marieta Ware, Gladys and husband Floyd Green. Mary Nadine Watson Mary Nadine Watson (nee Baker), daughter of Raymond Floyd Baker and Dora Ethel Baker Pyatt (nee Martin) was born Saturday, February 6, 1926, at Davisville, Mo. She entered eternal rest Saturday, May 12, 2001 in the Cuba Manor Care Center, Cuba, Mo., at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 6 days. On March 9, 1963, at Salem, Mo., Nadine was united in marriage to Jessie Ray Watson. They enjoyed over thirty-five years together before his death July 9, 1998. In addition to her parents and Ray, she was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Naomi Halbert and Virginia and Elba Wilson. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are three brothers, Joe Baker and wife Wilma, Bill and wife Pat Baker, all of Davisville, Mo., Jim Baker and wife Kathy of Cuba, Mo. Nadine will be remembered as a special sister and aunt. Her home had all things neat and in their place. She was always there with a helping hand when she was needed. She was devoted to her family, and worried about her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. When you visited her, she would go as far as she cold with you and as you were leaving, she continued to do this in the nursing home as long as her health permitted. Elizabeth Adella Smith Elizabeth Adella Smith nee Slovensky was born Monday, March 26, 1917, at Steelville, Missouri, a daughter of the late Ernie Otto "Ed" Slovensky and Estella Verna Slovensky (nee Brown). She entered eternal rest Sunday, May 19, 2002 at the Gibbs Care Center, Steelville, Missouri at the age of 85 years, one month and 23 days. Elizabeth was united in marriage to Waldemar Clarence "Pete" Peterson, December 30, 1951. One son Clarence Herman Peterson was born to this union. After Pete's death, March 21, 1967, she married George Harold Smith, January 13, 1979, he preceded her in death, August 24, 1984. She enjoyed spending time with her family and assisting in her grandchildren's home education. She was a loving and generous mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be missed by all that knew her. Helene Juanita Long Helene Juanita Long nee Pyatt was born Saturday, July 20, 1940 in Goodwater, Mo. to the late Clyde Pyatt and Blanche Carl Pyatt and departed this life on Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at her home in Davisville, Mo. at the age of 61 years, 10 months and 22 days. Helene married William Paul Long on December 31, 1960 in Davisville, Mo. at the Davisville Assembly of God Church, and to this union two children were born. Helene and Bill lived most of their 41 years together in the Davisville area except for the ten years they lived in St. Louis, Mo. Helene accepted the Lord as her personal Savior many years ago and she and Bill attended the Davisville Assembly of God Church in Davisville, Mo. until her health failed. Helene enjoyed working crossword puzzles, traveling, especially their trips to Branson, Mo. and most of all she loved and enjoyed her family. Helene was preceded in death by her father Clyde Pyatt, her son Paul Long, and her brother Mike Pyatt. Noda Elizabeth Walls Noda Elizabeth Walls (nee Pyatt) formerly of Cuba, Mo. passed away on Friday, September 13, 2002 at the age of 95 years, 1 month and 26 days. Noda was preceded in death by her husband Samual Walls, her parents, Andrew and Delia (Lunsford) Pyatt, two sons, Jerry and David Walls, one brother, Corbit Pyatt, two sisters, Hazel Reeves and Bessie Grover. On September 18, 1930 Noda was united in marriage to Samual Walls at Cuba, Mo. Four sons, James, Alvin, Jerry, and David and one daughter, Agnes, were born to this union. They were happily married until Samual preceded her in death. Noda was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cuba, Mo. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her two sons, James Walls and wife Ada, Alvin Walls and wife Betty; one daughter, Agnes Cook; one daughter-in-law Arnetta Walls; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. On September 1, 1974, at Center Ridge Pentecostal Church, Davisville, Mo., Joyce was united in marriage to Dennis James Baker. One daughter and two sons were born to this union. They recently celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary. Noah E. Brown Noah E. Brown of Sullivan, Mo. passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at the age of 77 years. Mr. Brown was born on May 15, 1926 at Cherryville, Mo. to Billy and Della Pyatt Brown. He was the second child of a family of 15 children. Noah moved to St. Louis as a teenager where he met and later married Agnes Collier on May 27, 1945. Their union was lovingly blessed for 58 years. He honorably served his country with the U.S. Army and had attained the rank of Private First Class. Noah worked in the automotive parts industry and was employed with the same company for 41 years. He was a member of the Assembly of God for 58 years and served as a Deacon for nearly 35 years. He was a faithful member of First Assembly of God in Sullivan. He is survived by his wife Agnes of the family home, one son Stanley Brown and wife Marilyn of St. Charles, Mo., two daughters, Sharon Dorf of Cuba, Mo. and Janet Larrison and husband Joey of Sullivan; six grandchildren, Shelly Davis and husband Robert, Jeanette Weppner and husband Charlie, Tona Lewis and husband Rodney, all of Bourbon, Mo., Dana Harris and husband Dwight of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Jennifer and David Brown of St. Charles, Mo., six great grandchildren-the sunshine in his last days-Bobby, Luke, Becca, Lesley, Abby and Austin, other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy and a sister, Bernice. On May 23, 1960 at Poplarville, Mississippi, Alta was united in marriage to Robert D. Barnes. They have enjoyed over 43 years together. On May 28, 1949, at Piggot, Arkansas, Violet was united in marriage to Charles Herman Hewkin, son of the late Opal Leah (Martin) Hewkin and Clifford John Hewkin. One son and three daughters were born to this union. They have enjoyed over 54 years together, making their home near Davisville since 1979. In addition to her parents, Violet was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred and husband Cletus Turnbough and brothers-in-law, Vencil Cottrell and Johnny Eugene Hewkin. Herman L. "Pete Gruver Herman Lee "Pete" Gruver of Cuba, Mo. was born in Fanning, Mo. on Wednesday, May 19, 1937 to Herman Gruver and Bessie Ellen Pyatt Gruver. He passed away in his home on Friday, January 9, 2004 at the age of 66 years, 7 months and 21 days. Pete was united in marriage to Sue Ann Bales on May 4, 1968 in Cuba, Mo. and to this union four children were born. He lived most of his life in the Cuba area and was employed at McGinnis Wood Products before retirement. His hobbies were wood cutting, talking about old times with everyone, doing yard work and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Bessie Pyatt Gruver; his son Brian Murray; brother-in-law Granville Rahl, John Copeland, and Earl Fortner. Helena "Betty" Bryan Helena Elizabeth Bryan (nee Souders), the daughter of the late Jesse and Gladys Souders was born at Stanton, Mo. on August 25, 1930 and passed away at Washington University Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. on November 16, 2004 at the age of 74 years. Those who preceded her in death were her parents and two sisters, Hazel and Connie, three brothers, George, Jesse and Bill. Those who survive are four brothers, John (Florence) Souders of Fenton, sister-in-law Eleanor Souders of St. Louis, sister-in-law Alice Souders of Belvedere, Illinois and brother-in-law Cecil Pyatt of Cuba. He departed this life with his family at his side, Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at his home in Steelville, Missouri, at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 17 days. On March 1, 1958, Warren was united in marriage to Leota Hutson in Steelville, Missouri. Four sons and three daughters were born to this union. They enjoyed over 46 years together. In addition, Warren had two sons and a daughter from a previous marriage. Roy Joseph Turnbough Roy Joseph Turnbough was born Saturday, March 26, 1921, at Davisville, Missouri, a son of the late Emery Turnbough and Litha (Martin) Turnbough. He departed this life Saturday, November 27, 2004, at the Gibbs Care Center, Steelville, Missouri, at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 1 day. On December 20, 1941, Roy was united in marriage by Rev. Sam Roper, to Helen Harris, daughter of the late William J. Harris and Edna R. (Pyatt) Harris. Three sons and one daughter were born to this union. They would have celebrated their 63rd anniversary December 20, 2004. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Turnbough and Troy Turnbough; one sister, Geraldine Turnbough; brothers-in-law, Jake Turnbough, Leahman Pierce, Hershell Harris and Gene Carey; and one great great grandson, Brandon Wilson. She entered eternal life Tuesday, January 4, 2005, at the Phelps County Regional Medical center, Rolla, Missouri, at the age of 84 years, 7 months and 6 days. On June 6, 1938, Eva was united in marriage to Emmitt Cordell Harris. Two sons, Dwight and Albert and three daughters, Fredia, Lucille and Ruth were born to this union. They enjoyed over 56 years together before his death, November 13, 1994. Clarence Eugene "Gene" Dicus Gene Dicus of Steelville, Missouri was born in Steelville, Missouri Sunday, December 30, 1945 to Edith Dicus, He departed this life Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 59 years, 1 month, and 10 days. Gene married Geraldine Chandler on March 17, 1964 in Leasburg, Missouri and to this union one son was born. Gene worked most of his life in the timber mill industry and worked last for Larry Conaway at his mill west of Steelville, Missouri as a forklift driver until his health failed him. Gene loved his work and the people he worked with so much that ever when his health prevented him from working he and Geraldine would still drive out to the mill to see everyone. Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, and raising flowers. He was a member of the Steelville Country Club. Gene attended Pentecostal churches most of his life and made things right by placing his faith and trust in the Lord a few weeks ago. Gene loved his family and enjoyed the times they had together. Gene was preceded in death by a daughter Norma Jean Dicus, and three brothers Danny, Donnie, and DeWayne Hardin. Tessie Geneva Pyatt Tessie Geneva Pyatt, nee Coplin, passed away April 9, 2005, at Barnes Jewish Medial Center, St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 67 years, 7 months and 18 days. Tessie was born on August 21, 1937, at Huzzah, Missouri, a daughter of the late Esco Coplin and Laura (Medley) Coplin. She was raised in Bismarck and Steelville, Missouri. On November 27, 1954 at Steelville, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Leo Pyatt. Two sons and four daughters were born to this union. They celebrated 50 years together in November 2004. Tessie gave her life to Jesus Christ on September 1968 at Lookout Church in Davisville and she was baptized in the Huzzah River in Dillard, Missouri on November 24, 1968. She was a member of Trinity Full Gospel Tabernacle in Sullivan. She had just recently found a new hobby in crocheting. She enjoyed family cookouts and reunions and watching soap operas, but most of all she enjoyed going to church and taking care of her flowers. She'll be missed by everyone who knew and loved her, especially her family. Naomi Florence (Carl) Gruschka Naomi Florence (Carl) Gruschka, age 83 of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away at home on June 20, 2006, with her family by her side. She was born in Goodwater, Missouri, January 28, 1923 to Ray and Grace (Laramore) Carl. Baptized at an early age, Naomi became a member of Emmaus Baptist Church in Courtois, Missouri, where she also taught Sunday school for many years. For the last 43 years, she regularly attended Grace Baptist Church in Kansas City North. Naomi graduated from Belgrade High School, Flat River Community College and Missouri State University. She taught school in Iron County and Washington County, Missouri, in the same schools from which she had received her elementary and high school education. She touched the lives of many children, not only during her 19 year teaching career, but also during the summers when she worked at Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children in St Louis, which she considered such a rewarding experience. In 1961, she married Heinz Gruschka in St Louis and they soon moved to Kansas City, forever calling it home. Naomi chose not to work outside the home after her daughter, Jane, was born, however, her love of children led her to be a child care provider for 28 years. The last two children to experience her love and care (and her infamous pancakes) were her own grandchildren who were her pride and joy. She is survived by her husband, Heinz; daughter, Jane Gruschka; and grandchildren, Amy and Max Gruschka, all of Kansas City, Missouri; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Liselotte and William Drummey of Windham, Maine, Hans and Gisela Gruschka of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, Peter and Edda Gruschka of Dauchingen, Germany; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Blanche (Carl) Pyatt and Geraldine Carl; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Reldon and Berniece (Payne) Carl, Aaron and Etta (Denney) Carl, and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Annelise and Sydney Ferguson. Naomi will be remembered as a most courageous and loving woman, whose boundless care and compassion for others touched so many lives and continued even throughout her own ill health. She babysat for more than 40 years providing childcare in the community for three generations. She collected salt and pepper shakers, accumulating 1500 sets. Shirley enjoyed walking and mostly spending time with family and grandchildren. There he was the Warehouse Manager for The Capital Area Food Bank in Lorton, VA. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He enjoyed travel, fishing and boating. He graduated from Raytown South High School and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Marna (Candy); his mother, Ruth Pauline Thompson; his parents-in-law, O.W. and Marjorie McAfee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Cynthia Ayers, Melinda Pyeatt, Richard A. M. Allen Piatt, 91, Grain Valley, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at the Independence Regional Health Center. Mr. Piatt was born Sept. 30, 1909, in Piedmont, Okla., the son of Harry Victor and Bertha Ridenour Piatt. He was employed by Safeway in Oklahoma before moving to Butler, Mo., where he opened Piatt's Implement Co. on U.S. 71. He retired from Clark Manufacturing Co. in Atherton, Mo. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Waldo Avenue Restoration Branch. He was ordained a priest in 1952, an elder in 1954, high priest in 1960 and patriarch/evangelist in 1981. He served as Rich Hill District President. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Hancock Piatt, on Oct. 1, 1995, his parents, a brother, Harry E. Piatt, and his sisters, Velma Bruns and Glaydyce Fox. His survivors include one daughter, Glynna F. LEAD BELT NEWS, Flat River, St. Francois Co. MO, Fri. July 23, 1943
Rev. Frank Thomas Jenkins passed away at his home in Elvins, Sunday, July 18, 1943, after a prolonged illness. He was 73 years 4 months 28 days of age. He was united in marriage in 1890 to Miss Martha Ann White, who survives. He also leaves four children, Everett D. Jenkins of New Orleans, La.; Mrs. Myrtle Rambert of St. Louis and Lyman Jenkins of Gamboa, Canal Zone, and two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Pyatt of Bonne Terre and Mrs. Thurzia Pennington of Ellington, other relatives and friends. Two children preceded him in death. Rev. Jenkins had been a minister of the gospel many years and lived a faithful Christian life for more than 35 years. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Assembly of God Church in Flat River, conducted by Rev. V. R. Ledbetter, pastor of the Elvins Church. Interment was in Parkview Cemetery. C.Z. Boyer and Son Service.

Margaret Pyeatt of St. Louis died October 9, 1969, at age 52. Born April 28, 1917, at Elmo, Mo., she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sullivan. Surviving are: her husband, James Pyeatt of St. Louis; one daughter Alberta Pyeatt of the home; two sons, James Pyeatt of Bonne Terre [St. Francois County], and Ervin Pyeatt of St. Louis; one brother, Charles Sullivan, Desloge; four sisters, Blance Woods of Desloge, Ruby Roux of Irondale, Roxie Saffell of Horine, Mo., and Wilda Roux of St. Louis; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son. Chapel services were Sunday, October 12 1 p.m. Boyers, Bonne Terre. Rev. William Newhouse officiated and interment was at Mitchell Cemetery, Leadwood, under the direction of C. Z. Boyer & Son, Bonne Terre.

Clyde is survived by his wife Wilma of the home; 3 sons and daughters-in-law Owen and Beulah Long, Donald and Cathern Long, all of Hartville, MO, and Ronnie and Connie Long of Phoenix, AZ; a daughter and son-in-law Bettie and Harvey Whipple of Lebanon, MO; a step-son Bruce Coday of Hartville, MO; a step-daughter Loretta Pyatt and her husband Dean of Hartville, MO; a sister Mildred Barr of Hartville, MO; his mother-in-law Ruby Jones of Grovespring, MO; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born on the family farm near Grovespring where he lived almost all of his life. For a short time, he lived in Marshfield before returning to the farm. Throughout his life, he worked as an auctioneer and farmer and also raised horses. Clyde professed his faith in Christ at an early age and was a member of Little Creek Baptist Church near Hartville. He was a member of the Registered Fox Trotters Association and enjoyed trail rides and trading horses. He loved life and lived each moment to the fullest. He was an active member of the Grovespring Senior Citizens and liked playing cards. He had a keen sense of humor and would often play practical jokes on his family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing in his spare time. Clyde was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, and was a caring neighbor and friend. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all of his family and many friends. Burial Little Creek Cemetery.
