"Brilliant! They're causing a chain reaction which will rip this planet to atoms and destroy all traces of them, simply to deal with us. What sheer ruthlessness! What disregard for sentient life! I rather like these aliens." - Megatron

Beast Machines Sonic Attack Jet

Well, I had to search far and wide for this guy, and finally one surfaced on eBay. Good, right? Well, I went a little nuts and my final bid was $26, with my max being $30. After shipping I ended up shelling out $31 for this toy, which is way too much, I'll admit, but it serves me right for not buying it at retail last year.

Okay, so first let me say that I'm a huge fan of this mold (obviously, otherwise I would have used my $31 for better things like, um, food or gas for my car), so I'm probably biased about anything I say, but still, you have to admit it's quite the marvel of engineering. Both modes are amazingly stable, and robot mode has no kibble that I can see. Plus the transformation is quite complex and very satisfying, but not annoying (such as, TM2 Megatron, which constantly annoys me when transforming due to his wings). Anyways, I already reviewed Jetstorm, so let me just point out the differences between the two. You know the drill.

Okay, well, jet mode is a lighter color of blue with silver accents instead of the yellow Jetstorm has. Actually, if you want to be precise, SAJ has two shades of blue, a light teal color and a darker, I guess you'd call it 'regular' blue. Very nice looking, indeed. He also still has the extend-o nose, but the button seems to be a lot tighter than Jetstorm's (you need to press the button more), but that may be because I play with Jetstorm quite a bit (more than someone who is 20 should anyway).

Transformation, of course, is the same, so I won't go into it. As far as I can tell there's no major mold changes, though I spotted some minor ones. More on that in a bit.

Robot mode carries over the same color changes jet more had, though the use of silver is a lot more prominent here than it was in jet mode. Actually, one thing that looks weird is SAJ's shoulders and upper arms are the same color, as opposed to Jetstorm who has gray shoulders and yellow upper arms. The contrast is something I prefer on Jetstorm, but that's a really minor nitpick.

SAJ also has a paint app on his feet as they are painted a dull greenish sort of color. He also has a bright neon red stripe on his head where Jetstorm has a yellow one. However, it doesn't look out of place on SAJ at all, and it even matches all the clear plastic on him.

Mold changes? The only one I can spot is the triggers for the missile launchers. On SAJ they are fatter than Jetstorm's. I dunno why, maybe the thin ones on Jetstorm snapped off easily? Other than that everything is the same, right down to the copyright info. Ah yes, SAJ also is made of a stiffer plastic, where Jetstorm is more of a rubbery plastic. It makes no difference, but sometimes I'm afraid I'm going to snap something on SAJ.

Overall? This is a cool toy. I wouldn't recommend paying $31 for it, but if you can get one for a reasonable price, then you best be picking it up, though I have to confess I like Jetstorm's color scheme better. Now I need to get the new RID Storm Jet repaint and the Botcon exclusive Skywarp and my Jetstorm mold army will be complete. Muhaha!
