Beast Wars Neo Stampy
Story time! Whoo! My box of stuff from BBTS came today. I won a Stampy and a Bazooka
from them on eBay and I decided to take advantage of their $5 flat shipping rate and buy some
more stuff. I sprung for Mach Kick and BM Blackarachnia.
Okay, so the box came via UPS this morning while I was in the shower. I had to go to
school, so I couldn't open the box, right? Well, I put the box in my car hoping for a free
hour or something. Amazingly my calc professor didn't show today, so I opened them all. Good
stuff, let me tell you. I might not review Mach Kick or Bazooka today as I'm scared to transform
them (especially Bazooka, Mach Kick I can do fine, it just takes a while). Stampy and BA are
just fine though. Anyways, on to the review!
I decided to pick up Stampy on a recommendation from various reviews and some people on
ATT who already had him. First thing I have to say about him is he's tiny. BWN stuff (and
pretty much all Japanese TFs for that matter) comes in a box, not on a card, and his box is
tiny! And his beast mode is tiny! It was so cute. I was expecting him to be a bit larger,
even though I knew he was considered a basic. Actually, he's the right size for a basic, I
guess I was thrown off by how big Blackarachnia is.
Anywho, beast mode is a white rabbit. Actually, to be correct, it looks more like a hare
because of the thin, ling legs and the thin body. He's pretty neat looking, though I kinda
wish his eyes were another color. As they are now, they're red, which makes him look kinda
weird, I dunno. He's also got the BWN problem of being preposed. Unlike the majority of the
Beast Wars stuff which is in a regular standing position, some of the BWN stuff has a beast
mode meant to be in only one pose. Stampy's is that of mid jump, or running. This wouldn't
be a problem if he could do another pose (a simple sitting pose, for instance), but he really
can't. You can make him sit on his little bunny butt with some effort, but it's not a convincing
pose for a rabbit. Beast mode also shows off a lot of robot parts if you flip him on his back.
Transformation is simple, but fun. If you order the same set I do, don't get too used to
the easy transformations, because Mach Kick and Bazooka are no picnic to transform. He also
has a transformation like TM Cheetor, with the halves of his head becoming his hands (though
Stampy can't join them together to make a gun) and the front beast legs being his backpack.
Robot mode is nice, though a bit chubby looking. He has his spark crystal in his chest,
which looks quite nice, and there's a long knob under it, right about where his belly button
would be if robots had that sort of thing. He has a third weapon mode that can be held by
Longrack or Big Convoy (larger BWN toys), but I don't have them, nor do I care for his crappy
weapon mode, so I'll pretend it doesn't exist for now.
Stampy has no weapons to speak of really. His rabbit ears are supposed to be swords or blades
or something, but they can't quite get the right position, so he just ends up having a lot of
rabbit kibble on his hands. If you really want you can remove the rabbit head halves by unscrewing
them from his wrist, but then he'll have no head in beast mode.
Also it's worth note that his lone gimmick, which is used in weapon mode, causes him to
shrug in robot mode. Just push down on his cotton tail. How cute.
All in all, despite some weird flaws and general lack of gimmick, Stampy is a cool toy. You
can grab him on BBTS for $9.99, which is
a good price, though if you check eBay you can usually get him for less (I paid $6.50 for mine). I
wouldn't pay any more than that, which would really be pushing it if he weren't a Japanese import. He's a
neat little bunny. I like it.
