Beast Wars: Original Megatron

Alas, as luck would have it possibly the coolest Beast Wars toy is the toughest to get your mits on. Sure Tarantuals and Blackarachnia are hard to find, but those aren't nearly as cool as the big purple T-Rex that is Megatron. I remember when the series was still fresh and new one of my younger cousins had it (this was back when my thoughts on BW were 'How could Transformers be animals?! Yech!') and I played with it a bit and thought it was quite cool. Upon rediscovering BW I decided I needed one of these. eBay is a godsend.

Rarr!

A MIB one of these can set you back a good fifty bucks if you get lucky, so I decided to go for a used one which ususally go for around half the minty fresh price. I bid on a few but I was always outbid at the last second (I swear the Transformers buyers wake up at 3am just to outbid someone by 50 cents). One time I even bid $30 in the final hour and still lost, the final price went up to $55 that time for a complete Megatron out of the box. $25 bucks in less than an hour!

Anyways, one day I struck gold. Someone put one up for auction starting at $7, good shape, still had his tounge squirter, a few scratches, missing his missiles and all that, but quite decent looking. Buy it now price: $15. Cha-ching! I had it in my hands within two weeks (shipping was from Puerto Rico).

Yesss!

Open up to box. Bah, packing peanuts. Ah, there he is. In robot mode. Hmm, I remember him being bigger. Ah well. Now, transforming him to beast mode without instructions was kinda tough, but I figured it out eventually. Hey, I'm not nine anymore.

Looking over this bad boy I have come to appreciate him as probably one of the best made Beast Wars toys. While his beast mode isn't overly articualted, it does have some amazing detail to it and even it if didn't transform it would sell well as a Jurassic Park toy or something I'm sure.

In robot mode Megs is something else. He's insanely poseable with tons of articulation. Gotta love that. I mean his toes are articulated for pete's sake! He even manages to not suffer from backpack syndrome, though I suppose it would be nice if he had an actual hand instead of a T-Rex head and odd looking tail crusher dealie. Then again, what the hell is he going to hold in his regular robot hand? A gun? Megatron don't need no stinking gun, he can spray those Maximals with his dino-drool!

All in all, if you can get one of these bad boys, go for it, it is an excellent addition to any Transformers or Beast Wars or Megatron collection.
