Beast Wars Transmetal 2 Cybershark
Okay, first I should tell you I'm biased. I hate this toy. I actually own two of him (three
if you count Sky Byte), though I didn't pay for either one. You see the first one someone returned
to my store (KB Toys is notorious for having lots of old, crappy Beast Wars toys, especially
Cybershark 2s and Op Minor (the second of which I don't think sucks). Anyway, they returned it
because it kept falling apart, so I decided to take it home and fix it since damages only need
the box in tact when they get sent back to the warehouse (or part of the toy). I fixed it, but
it was horrible. You'll see why in the review, but on with the story. The second one I got
MISB because we were going to defect them out and toss 'em because (surprise!) no one wanted
them. The manager said I could take one if I wanted, so I did. The new one I got was the
second version which is supposed to have tighter joints or something. Bah.
Also, just so you know, Cybershark is the only non-bootleg TF I own that isn't on display. I love him
that much.
Okay, so Cybershark 2's beast mode is that of a shark. However, unlike his original
namesake who was a weird hammerhead hybrid (hybrid with what I'm not sure), Cybershark 2 is a
flat out TM2 great white shark. It looks pretty cool, with gray and vac metal blue plastics,
and some shades of green and blue. Of course it has some major stability issues.
First off, the lower jaw, which becomes his robot feet, have problems staying together. And
forget about trying to pose him in shark mode. Not only is he pre-posed (swimming to the right),
but if you place him on the table or whatever, the parts his fins are attached to will flop
around. Not very fun.
He also has a third vehicle mode, but it's so horrible (it ranks up there with Depth Charge's and
TM2 Megatron's) I won't even bother with it.
Transformation is the biggest pain in the ass. He's a shell-former in all his annoying ass
glory. However, unlike kibble-masters like Triceradon and Side Burn, his kibble has some major
issues staying on his body. It's nearly impossible to transform without having some panel or
something pop off. Not cool. Sometimes it's just easier to rip them all off and then reattach
them after he's in robot mode.
Robot mode has potential, but it suffers from a lot of flaws. First off his ankles are really
weak, which makes standing him on his own pretty tough. Not helping that fact is his hella big
backpack. He wears all his beast kibble on his back, complete with a shark head for an ass (yep,
he's a butthead). On top of that I don't like the shade of green they decided to use. Bleh.
Positive things? Well, his spinning tail fin arm thing is pretty neat. There's a wheel on
his elbow that makes it spin and there's even a locking mechanism on his wrist so it won't
spin all crazy like when he's in beast mode (if you can get him back there). His gun is pretty
neat too, but it gets in the way a lot of times. It's also on a hair trigger, and we all know
how missiles always seem to be attracted to small unreachable crevices and piles of stuff. And now
you have two to find!
So, overall? Cybershark 2 sucks. Sorry. If you can get one for like $2 or something, I guess
it's worth it, but really you should pass him up. Just a side note, the RID version, Sky Byte,
is better, but not much.
