Beast Wars: Tigatron Card Series Rattrap
If you've ever looked for older Beast Wars toys you know that one of the toughest to come
by (as well as one of the most sought after) is the original Rattrap. A loose one can set
you back a good twenty bucks and a minty one goes way high. However, the clone version
which comes on a Tigatron card (kinda funny to see actually) is actually exactly what the
original Rattrap toy is minus a few things.
First would be the quality of the plastic. Instead of the nice plastic usually used
for the other Beast Wars figures a cheaper version is used. Actually, of the other bootlegs
I've purchased, this one is probably the highest quality in terms of the plastic. The other
difference, which is slight, is the color differences here and there. I don't have an 'official'
Rattrap for comparison, but from pictures I've seen, there are a few small color differences.
Rattrap's transformation process is quite simple. It's spring loaded so you only need to lift
his tail and *poof* it's Rattrap in robot mode. Unfortunately mine doesn't do this quite
that well because one of the gears which moves his rat body over is lose so one of his rat
sides kinda sticks. Also he had some problems staying in beast mode, so I had to disable
the spring. It still works fine, but the spring loaded action is gone. Ah well.
If you check out the inside of his rat sides when he's in robot mode you'll see the two
pieces of his gun. In my opinion this is one of the coolest features of this robot. Excellent
work by the designers.
All in all Rattrap is quite an excellent addition to any Beast Wars collection, and the
bootleg is just as nice an option if you don't want to shell out too much for the
original.
