Combtooth Dogfish
Scientifically:
Centroscyllium nigrum.
What To Look For:
Little is known about this shark. The body is
dark with white edges to the dorsal and
pectoral fins. both dorsal fins have spines
with grooves. The moderately long snout has
receptors to detect prey and the large eyes are
needed to see in low light conditions. This
species has been caught over the continental
slope to depths of 1200 m.
Size:
Up to 50 cm.
Distribution:
Hawaii and Eastern Pacific.
Food:
Fish and crabs.
Breeding:
Not known.
Danger To Humans:
Not dangerous, but care needed because the fin
spines are sharp.
